Did your class at school ever have a class pet?

Two of my classes in elementary school had class pets. Well, technically 3, but one of them was my just my science class as opposed to my homeroom.

In 4th grade, we had a blue betta fish named Stewie.

In 5th grade, my homeroom teacher had a corn snake named Ozzie. He was so sweet and gentle. Every week each student got a turn to hold him during storytime. I loved him so much! Whenever he shed (which wasn’t too often) I think whoever was holding him that week got to take home his skin. I was so jealous of the kids who got to take his skin home. In a way, I got my wish a few years back when my mom found a snakeskin in my granny’s garden. But by that time I didn’t really want to take it home XD

My science teacher had a bearded dragon named Eddie. He just chilled in the back, I didn’t ever really get to know him.

Aww, none of the classes in the schools I went to had class pets, but it sounds like it was a nice experience! The closest I've come to a class pet is that the pre-school I went to had pond turtles outside, which was nice! 🐢

We had a Bearded Dragon in the main lobby for everybody to see. I think some kids could sign up to feed him for a week and it would alternate. One of our teachers also had a class hamster named Skully.

(it's weird how I can remember this, but I'd forget a name someone told me 30 minutes ago).

In 2nd grade we had a rabbit named Stu. Looking back now, we didn't take the best care of him. He was kept in a rather small wired cage with no padding or support on the bottom, he didn't have a whole lot of water in his cage, and he didn't have a whole lot of hay or leafy green vegetables to be fed.

I’ve never been in a class that had one, but this reminds me of how my older sister did have a class goldfish when she was in fourth grade, and apparently one time I was there and I overfed it and it died the next day. I don’t remember that but she always says that’s what happened and never lets me forget it, so…

In kindergarten our class pet was a tarantula. Her name was Rosy, and our teacher seemed to love her a lot. Maybe she's the reason I still find spiders so interesting. Her name was Rosy because she had a rosy color on her back.

In 5th grade we had a guinea pig named Chocolate and a mouse named Caramel. Their names matched their colorings. The guinea pig had already been there before our class, but we got the mouse during the year and picked her name. Unfortunately, Chocolate didn't make it through the year. I remember some of my classmates finding him(? I think) deceased in his cage and whispering to each other about how to break the news to our teacher. She cried, and we had a little funeral/burial for him. As for why he died, I think it was just old age.

In middle school, some of our science teachers had class pets, things like geckos, frogs, snakes, and other reptiles and amphibians. Maybe in high school too, but I can't remember any in particular.

My middle school library had an iguana. I love them!

In high school, one of my science teachers had:

—a Russian tortoise named Ivan
—a snake (name unknown)
—I believe some fish
—A baby hedgehog named Karen

One day I walked into class to see everyone gathered around a lab table in the back. My teacher was feeding the snake mice and it grossed me out…but was interesting at the same time.

On a brighter note, Karen was allowed on students’ desks (Idk why…I think to get used to kids), but would try to run off and usually ended up pooping. (I never wanted her on my desk, even though she was cute.)

I never had anything like that growing up - perhaps it's not really a thing in England? We did have a communal garden at my infant school which was a project that I guess fulfilled the role of class pet, sort of.

I think every tarantula i’ve ever met/heard of was named Rosy XD That probably explains why, because I was wondering if it was just some wild coincidence!

Well, after Googling, according to Wikipedia:
The Chilean rose tarantula (Grammostola rosea), also known as the rose hair tarantula, the Chilean fire tarantula, or the Chilean red-haired tarantula (depending on the color morph), is probably the most common species of tarantula available in American and European pet stores today
Yep, that checks out

Never had class pets when I was younger. Though in the private school my mums cleans (in Secondary I used to go into work with my mum because there was no one to look after me after school) in their science department they had a fish tank that had catfish~

The closest I got with a class pet, was in primary and we had these lil stuffed alligator/crocodile that we decided to call Steve after Steve who passed away. (Can't remember if this was before or after he passed)

We've never had a class pet. My brother and sister have, though! .... Kind of. Instead of it being an actual animal, each kid in the Kindergarten was in charge of taking care of this stuffed dog toy for a weekend. Then the student had to chronicle the events of the weekend they spent with the stuffed animal.

my biology teacher had ferrets, she took horrible care of them and they smelled awful, the school eventually made her remove them because it was such a disruption. she also had a tarantula that was pretty cool.

There were class pets when I went to school, but it was never in the classes I was ever in. I always felt like I got cheated lol. I really wanted to be part of that class and have a pet hamster or whatever. I'm sure things like that can really boost the moral for a classroom.

They even had vending machines in my school right out in the hallway for students to access. But whenever someone did use it some staff was nearby to confiscate it. The kids were never reimbursed their money and we all know the faculty drank/ate it themselves.

One time in elementary we hatched chicks but I'm not sure that counts. Anywho, they were around for a few weeks.
I do think it's important for kids to be around animals at some point. There is a lot of life lessons that can be learned from it.
