Hello!

I have been trying to watch Attack on Titan because I have heard a lot of great things about it. I always make it to episode 5 or 6 and then I can't continue. I like the animation, and concept. Most of the side characters are amazing, but I HATE the three main characters. Thus far my opinions are:

Eren: Suicidally angry, stupid, reckless. Incapable of thinking before acting.

Armin: Annoyingly stereotypical 'weak nerdy' friend who always needs to be saved. Realistically should be dead by now.

Mikasa: Has the potential to be an amazing character given her backstory and skills, but seems so flat. Too devoted to Eren who doesn't seem to be worth it.

Again the side characters are great! (Especially Levi! <3<3<3 ^///^) I'm just having trouble because I really don't like the main three! I know I haven't gotten very far, but I don't want to waste my time. Do the main three get better? I could deal with Armin and Mikasa not changing, but Eren has to get better! To me he seems like Edward Elric minus all of the charm, humor, and intelligence...

Thanks and please try to keep the hate to a minimum! These are just my opinions of the characters, and the frustration they cause me. ^-^

Tbh I watched the whole thing (at least the first season, idk if any others came) and it personally didn't get better for me. I just never got why everyone liked that anime so much. To me it wasn't funny or interesting.

Hrmm... That's what I was afraid of. It seems a bit overhyped. It has potential to be awesome, but seems poorly executed. :C

This is a "flavor of the month" anime I avoid. Anytime I hear about an anime from literally EVERYWHERE, I avoid it like the plague.

If you want some quality anime, check out:
Shiki
Fushigi Yugi
Ceres: Celestial Legend

Yeah, whenever an anime is really popular it just isn't that good to me. It's probably because I have high expectations and I'm always let down.

Fair enough! The only 'popular one' that I ever REALLY liked was Fullmetal Alchemist. Generally I agree with you though. I will have to check those out! I have read a few of the manga for Fushigi Yugi and Ceres: Celestial Legend, but never watched them.

Yeah that seems to be true. Maybe some of these people have time to waste on 'meh' shows, but I am busy so my time is precious! XD I ain't got no time for sub-par shows of any kind! ^-^

I have never watched it but my ex said it wasn't bad but not great either. He described Eren the same way you did and he said he doesn't develop beyond that.

Lack of character development speaks volumes about the quality of a piece of fiction in my opinion.

Definitely does. That's why I find a lot of moe slice of life to be godawful (Is the order a rabbit, Kiniro Mosaic) cause they seem to be the culprit of that. I'm legit surprised for the lack of it in AOT due to the praise it gets, especially for the genre which you expect to have just that.

Honestly I found the manga to be a lot better than the anime. The huge problem with the anime was that they didn't have much source material to go off of at the time, so they cranked up what they had to 11. Eren's still kind of annoying, but he begins to think.

I adore Attack on Titan. It's one of my favourites. Although, if you're not really into action and you're more into character development & a great plot (not saying SnK's plot isn't great but...) then maybe it's not for you.

It does get better honestly. As of the characters, Eren starts to know better, same goes for the nerd. And Mikasa's devotion to Eren isn't stupid by a long shot.

I personally really enjoyed the anime, it's definitely worth continuing watching.

Hmm yeah I can see how that presents a problem. They jumped the gun with the anime then.

Yeah character development and plot are pretty important to me, so it may not be right for me.

Glad Eren starts to think. I don't think Mikasa's devotion is stupid. I mean he did save her life. It is just that she doesn't seem to think about or care about anything else. I feel like her character is too simplified.

yeah just keep watching, it isnt terrible but it isnt really good

I think I have decided not to continue. I don't have the time in my life to watch something that isn't 'really good' that I am not enjoying. The only way I would have continued is if people had been able to reassure me it gets amazing, and this doesn't appear to be the case.

Well I guess it's just she feels like her life is indebted to Eren, so she completely devoted herself to him. That and she's most probably infatuated to him as well.
