Hi guys! I'm currently a senior in high school, so my year has just been COLLEGE COLLEGE COLLEGE! Lucky for me, I (somewhat) easily decided on where to go, and what to major in. I knew I wanted to major in History with my emphasis on Secondary Education, but choosing the college was the hard part. It was between Alma College in my home state, and SUNY Old Westbury, in my boyfriend's. After a long few months, I decided on Alma with the support of my boyfriend. :)

As I said, I plan to major in History with SE. I also plan to minor in Art History! I'm really excited but also really nervous!! My senior year has been really hard in general because personal life, so I'm excited to leave and try to worry about myself for once. I always mothered my brothers and had a hard time with my parents, so I'm glad to just focus on me. I'm only 1-2 hours away, so I'm not too far from home.

I picked Alma because of many reasons. It was small (very small), private, it has a great History and Education program, their study abroad program is great... They also will pay for your 9th semester if you were on track to graduate but somehow didn't make it within the 8 semesters you're expected to graduate in. I hope I don't get behind, but it's awesome they have that just in case because scholarships only last for 4 years at most, so your fifth year would be out of pocket. Cappex also ranked them #1 in the nation for student activities... which is so true! They have a club for EVERYTHING! I am so excited!

So what about you guys? Where did you go/where do you plan to go/where are you at? Major in? Minor in? Emphasize on? Did you like it? Hate it? Any cool things you did? Most vivid memory? Any tips for others going into college / uni? I'd truly love to hear it all! I know I love talking about what I'm going to do, so I love listening to others, too. It's so interesting to see what everyone does/did/wants to do with their life. :)

I went to Virginia Tech for undergrad, i like it because it was a huge school with lots of opportunities and the research component. I knew I wanted to be a biology major, started pre vet but that ended quite quickly. I ended knowing I wanted to do genetic counseling which is a very competitive masters program.

I finally (after two years of trying) got into grad school at Indiana State University, and it is nothing compared to my undergrad. I loved my undergrad so much, I could not have had a better experience. My most vivid memories, are honestly party memories or associated with one of the extra curricular i got involved in: relay for life, a service fraternity, campus tours, and honors.

I went to a local community college for two years. I'm currently a senior majoring in criminal justice at University of North Texas. I'm majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Japanese. However, I'm one class credit behind in that minor,so I probably won't get it just by one semester. Oh well.

I liked joining clubs and stuff. I mean studying sucks, but college offers a lot of freedom and dorms are fun. I will under no circumstances return to school for a graduate program. Most of my most vivid memories are from parties, honestly. College can be fun. Don't forget to enjoy it

lol at how we both phrased that our most vivid memories are from parties with "honestly." great minds think alike!

I've decided that I'd love to do my undergraduate in Psychology, but I'm not 100% sure as to where just yet. Studying abroad is expensive so that's not really an option, and finding accommodation close to a college in Dublin at a reasonable price is hard work too, so I've been considering NUIG in Galway over on the opposite end of the country. I think I'd prefer to go to DCU in Dublin if I can get an apartment nearby or something because the college itself is only a bus or two away from home so I don't have to worry about feeling homesick :)

I kind of tend to ramble on about this all the time, but I'm a first year student at university studying Japanese! Honestly it's one of the best decisions I made in my life. At first when I was applying I had no idea if I even wanted to go, I just applied because I felt like I had to, and I had no other options, and truth be told, I just didn't care. But I feel like, as time went on, I realised that actually, this was the right path for me, and that this was definitely something I wanted to do. Truth be told, I have no idea what job I want in the future, but right now I'm just here studying because it's my own passion and being able to become fluent in another language is kind of a goal of mine in life. I think I got lucky in that this turned out to be the right path for me, as I didn't do much research into it, so if you do consider going to uni then really think about it and do a lot of research because otherwise you could end up wasting a lot of money. :') I also ended up moving 100+ miles away from my hometown which was initially quite difficult but I feel like I'm quite an independent person so it was easy for me to adapt to. I won't lie in saying that sometimes I wish I could just quickly go back home to see my family and home friends, but I'm also happy here, and I know that if I weren't here I wouldn't be half as happy as I am now.

Also, studying a language like Japanese is so rewarding. I feel like I am just learning new things everyday, and I can see my work pay off. Such as, being able to understand complete sentences in Japanese TV shows now. My only problem is remembering all of the vocabulary. We haven't learned lots of specific vocab, just kind of basic stuff - enough for us to express most of what we want to say. But then sometimes I'll be stuck trying to say something a bit more complex, just simply because I don't know the words, not necessarily because I don't know how to say it. :') But it's crazy for me to think about how much I've learned in such a short period of time... Although it hasn't been easy, not going to lie.

I am in my third year of college in Graphic Design! ^^ I'm really liking it and I am really nervous to graduate. This is my last semester and I'm going to graduate this April! Then I am out into the real world. So scary!!

My advice is definitely take a program that will get you a job later. Otherwise, what's the point? There are some dead end college/uni courses so be careful.

As well, give a **** about your grades. They matter here.

My brother is currently going to OSU, and I believe he is majoring in earth science. He absolutely loves it. He also brags about how much better college is just to make me mad (cause I'm still a senior in HS).

I am majoring in music and piano performance; I'm going for my master's. I've been playing piano for 11 years, and I've gotten a LOT of positive feedback from people who have studied music in college (they constantly remind me of how awesome I am but I don't like to repeat it), so that was a no-brainer. I'm considering chemistry or astrophysics as a possible minor, but that's a huge workload. I want to wait a year or so and get the feel for the college atmosphere so I can determine what would be best for me.

I literally just got done with all my auditions for college. Applying for music is a difficult process in comparison to what my brother did. He just filled out applications and went into colleges for interviews. I had to spend hours upon hours, practicing songs for auditions, just hoping that it all pays off and I didn't work at it for nothing. I applied to Ohio Wesleyan University, Cincinnati, and Oberlin Conservatory. For the last one I also had to do a pre-screening back in October, and it was an awful experience because I was 100% stressed out that day. The auditions for OWU and Cincinnati were very easy, but Oberlin was ridiculous.

I got accepted at OWU, getting letters from the university itself and the music dept. I got a $25,000 scholarship renewable for 4 years based on my GPA (about a 3.95 cumulative weighted) and my ACT score (25), plus money from filling out my FAFSA. I'm about $10,000 short of getting a full ride, and I still haven't got the scholarships from the music dept. and some others I applied for!

I haven't heard back from Cincinnati, but I don't plan on going there. It's too big. I prefer smaller campuses. OWU has a total enrollment of about 1700 a year. Cincinnati has 43,600.

Oberlin rejected my final audition. Apparently my pre-screening wasn't good enough (ya think??). I wasn't really planning on going there either, because they don't have a master's degree program.

Now I'm just playing the waiting game, except I do have to pay an acceptance fee and finish paying off my HS fees. I think that studying music in college will be awesome! Especially since OWU is really close to where my parents live so I won't be too far away from them. <3

Wow! It was so nice to hear from all of you! I enjoyed reading each and every one! I wish you all the best of luck!!! ε=┏(┏ ^o^)┛

all i can say is, try and do as many different things as u can while ur at university, it's probably the only time in life u will have the chance to

I'm currently in college working on an associates in applied computer science, then I'm getting a major in computer game science and a minor in computer animation. I'm taking my classes online, which I would totally recommend for someone with a busy schedule or someone who is working full time like me. It makes classes a lot easier on me but the only issue is if you were to take classes online you would have to be able to actually make yourself do the work. My friend tried it but procrastinated too much and ended up not doing all his work - the teachers put up the work and that's it, it's all self management and nobody is going to look after you to make sure your assignments are done. I've never really cared about the "college experience" and all the clubs that come with it, and I always hated sitting in a classroom all day. I love being able to work on my school work at home with my fiance and dog sitting beside me :p

If anything the only advice I have to give is if you know you're going to college don't mess around in high school. I was far from a model student and I know I could have aced AP/IB classes if I tried but I decided to play around and hardly go to class instead. I could have skipped my associates degree and just worked on a bachelors instead but my grades weren't the best. BUT, if you are working on an associates I would go to a community college near you. It's so much cheaper and a lot of my classes will transfer over while I'm working on my bachelors so I won't have to pay for the expensive university classes.

college-- the best, and most poverty-stricken, years of my life!

im gonna be majoring in biology and minoring in japanese (if that's a thing) starting this year. i hope to end up in med school someday as well

i applied to two schools and got $10k for one and $22k for the other, based on my grades or something. I didn't apply for a scholarship so it was a nice surprise I guess
i already know im not gonna get financial aid, but #when ur high school is more expensive than the college ur going to attend i don't think my parents care at this point

My experience in the college is more stressful than happy. Today I got C+ for my assignment and ruined me, I worked so hard last week! I put everything on it.
And also, I must work to pay my student loan. Balancing between work and study. And no time for pleasure at all. For me, it?s awful. Almost every week I have to write 1 essay. To somehow cope with all homework I often use https://www.privatewriting.com/compare-contrast-essay/topics as a source of useful writing. Someone here in the forum gave me link. But you know, cheating kills me. I know that having a college or higher education can also equip a person with better life skills and improves an individual's quality of life. But... That's hard.
