What the French player claiming to have an early copy of the game said is true:

After a few ingame days, we are tasked with choosing the locations of THREE new homes, and required to craft decorations for both the interior and exterior of the houses!

The source to this info is here

How do you feel about this development? Do you think we’ll be able to choose how to decorate or just follow set recipes?

(Btw: the three new move-ins mentioned are peppy, lazy and normal)

EDIT: Based on this screenshot, it seems like villagers houses will potentially be pretty bare in the beginning. Could this mean that they get furnished more over time? Would be interesting if it worked that way, and they filled out their homes gradually just like we do!

• Nook will task you with crafting specific items that the villagers deem necessary to live—these can be outdoor items

Interesting. I'd definitely like to be able to make some design choices, but I would also like villagers to be able to express their own individual style too.

It seems like the set of three villagers might always be peppy, lazy, normal. At PAX I believe it was Bianca, Nate, Celia. I don't really mind this because I always try to have at least one of each personality type, but I imagine it will annoy some people.

I would love that if it turns out to be the case. I love decorating villager homes in Happy Home Designer! And at least attempting to in New Leaf.

Like you said, I also want one of each personality anyway, so I don’t mind it for that reason. However, I would’ve preferred it to be random—at least past those initial two villagers—for the sake of each player getting a unique setup. Having it scripted in which order they arrive is just a bit...well, scripted. But hey, it’s all cool. I just want animal neighbors ^ェ^

It may be like in HHD! I think it's a cool idea but it's also nice to have random furnitures in their home.

This has basically been confirmed with the reviews coming out. Besides the first two villagers, when new ones come in Nook will task you with decorating their house starting with must haves they can’t live without. He’ll even provide you with diy recipes, but you have to gather materials to craft them

If it's like HDD, we'll get to design the the whole interior (and exterior). Which is cool.

Though I will dearly miss villagers all having their own personalized interiors created by Nintendo.

I like the idea of being able to decorate villagers' houses. It's way better than the randomness that they end up being for most people.

Yeah I’m super big on customization and had many gripes with some of their interior designs, but even as a semi control freak I’m a bit sad to see the individuality go.

Did you specifically read that we have input on how to furnish the houses? I only saw that we craft items, not whether we can choose which items to give them.

Haven't ready anything yet, but I am assuming we'll be able to put whatever furniture we have (whether crafted or found) in their homes. I don't think we'll have a toolbox of items like HHD. So if we have an extra sofa to spare, we'll likely be able to put the in the house.

Since it said that Nook gives us recipes, I think it’s more likely each villager will have a list of designated furnishings associated with them. I can’t see us being able to place something like the sloppy or kiddie set into a Snooty’s house xD

It’ll definitely be interesting to see how it actually works! I’m not sure if I want to be right or wrong with my assumption lol

In HHD there were 2-3 themed items that were required to be in the villagers home, the rest was up to us. So we maybe able to do this to some extent.

Just saw confirmation in the Nintendo Life video that certain items must be placed for each villager.
Unfortunately, these can be indoor as well as outdoor items, meaning that we might have to put up with ridiculous design choices outside of their houses.

I know I’m on the more finicky side when it comes to the town’s aesthetics, but I can’t help but feel upset by this. I truly want them to have some personal style—but does it have to be outside on the Island? I really don’t like the idea of random furniture placed around their houses (think instruments, the makeup table, a cat tree). This is the kind of random cluttered look I was hoping to avoid when I saw it in the PAX footage ;ェ;

I'm sure they won't make us keep the furniture if we don't want to, we probably just need to craft and place an item to complete a goal, kind of like a tutorial, and then we can pick it up afterwards. I refuse to have ugly furniture in my town too lol I'm gonna be picking that stuff right back up Immediately

God I hope you’re right! I hate being negative about the game, so what you’ve said has at least let some optimism back in lol

(Seems a bit mean though, luring them in with their favorite stuff and then snatching it away once they’re locked into living on our Island xD )
