Creating Tarantula Island: Myth Or Fact?

I got some good news: My second attempt has spawned a tarantula island. Just one problem...I'd like to fill my pockets with tarantulas. I have a fossil and a mole cricket (NOT losing that...intend to donate so it's no longer a problem to catch), a net, an axe, a vaulting pole, a ladder and two tarantulas.

I have 21 flowers stems in my inventory. Do I have to keep them or can I replant them and use those 21 spaces (plus the two free spaces) to put 34 tarantulas in my inventory or will replanting the stems (you can't drop them, I've tried) stop the spawns?

You can pluck the flower buds off the flowers and it will have the same results, allowing you to drop the buds on the beach.

It works fine.

Nothing happens when I try to pluck the buds BUT I did spy a tarantula spawn after I scared off two swarms of wharf roaches. I guess they're just pure stems with no buds at the moment? Either way as long as the tarantulas keep showing up I'm good to go.

you actually can do it with 1 waterfall islands / 2 tiered, i oftentimes do. it does take a little longer because bugs can spawn up there, but i just run at the edges and it clears them.

ive only ever done tarantula island with an island with a cliff/area u have to vaulting pole over to. i just get rid of literally everything on both sides (regular trees, coconut trees, rocks, and flower stems) and dig holes in every spot i can access except for one so i can pole or ladder away. after that the only things that spawn are wharf roaches, mole crickets, tiger beetles, and tarantulas. i manage to get a good amount of tarantulas, definitely enough to fill up an inventory of 40 spots with my tools still in there.

i put all my flower stems on the beach and get rid of every tree and rock so its easier to run around. i also put my things on the rocks bc tarantulas dont seem to spawn. i usually only keep my tools in my inventory, but if i get to a point where i can catch them efficiently and accurately then maybe i'll have to start ditching them too.

There is one island that I encountered that can't be made into a tarantula island. The bell island...aka the one that has the 5 rocks in the center of the pond that are all bell rocks.

The bamboo islands, the spiral island...have both successfully been tarantula islands when you remove all the rocks/trees/flower heads.

would this work if there is a villager on the island? it's worked for me until they started showing up again

Yep. I just landed with 36 tarantulas, 3 oarfish, and my net. There was a bull islander on the map watching the whole thing.

Oh no! That's Bell Island .... I left that one so quickly because I was good on rock material [and was looking for a villager anyway].... thanks for pointing this out.

Yes it works! This is my new method of earning bells as well as spawning surgeons. Fully expanded home here I come! c:
