so i got a drawing tablet as a gift for graduating middle school and i only just started drawing with it and it would be really comforting if i could get some critique on some of my drawings hhhhhhhh *explodes*

here is one i just finished today! it took 3 days sigh i have no motivation lol Niki OC!.jpg

some things i know i did wrong was overusing the airbrush HA i never use it but i wanted to experiment with shading. also the anatomy is kinda weird with her legs.

heres a link with a better quality image because for some reason tbt kills the quality http://bombblossoming.deviantart.com/art/Niki-628731880?ga_submit_new=10%3A1471408238

tl;dr :

just tell me what you think of it ! and if there are some things you could point out that kinda looks bad tell me !!! honest answers pls im drowning

I think that's pretty good since you just started! I'd focus more on anatomy more than anything so keep practicing. I think she looks a little stiff so maybe practice poses to get a better idea.

I just wanted to comment saying it's cool though how you're used to drawing people forward! I'm the total opposite :)

I really like this! You are WAY better than I was when I finished middle school. XD
Here are some things you could fix:
-"Too much shading" No! Shading is good! You didn't overdo it! Its easy to tell of shading is overdone. It makes art look more in depth and therefore better.
-Draw and shade the knees lol
-Try to make breasts on female at least somewhat noticeable. The only exception is if they had them surgically removed or something haha
-Try not to cut off the bangs if it overlaps the eye (I'm still getting used to this too)
-Instead of draw on a whim, try to imagine how the hair falls. Take as much time as you need for this, theres no rush. Imagine each and every important strand.
-Don't stop until you are happy with the result.
-Keep practicing
-Examine what some of your fav artists do in the same situation
-Try different styles
-Experiment with different color schemes
-Keep all shading balanced. What I mean is, if the hair is super detailed, make sure the clothes are too. Notice how in the example the blue dress isn't shaded at all.
-Try to insert wrinkles in clothes when needed

Hope I helped! I'm still learning but thats all I can think of to help you! :)

yeah i think poses are what artists struggle with the most imo. i think of the pose in my head and when i draw it, it comes out all deformed haha!

super helpful actually i never thought of shading in the knees or adding real wrinkles to clothes. i usually just add wrinkles if theyre bending. i was so frantic on what to do with the hair overlapping the eye so i kinda just erased it, but yeah im gonna start being more realistic. and the dress looked kinda bad because when i realized i didnt shade there i was too lazy and just left it xD so much for not stopping until im happy with the result! Anyways thanks for the critique!

No problem! Can't wait to see you improve over time!

You can look at some streams, that might help. I find Jint and riuimmi's are very useful

its super cute!! and great if ur aiming for a chibi style, though to improve I would say to emphasise the shading a bit more.
it's quite obvious that you used the airbrush tool, next time try picking more intense and vibrant colours to shade with, and add some more of it.
for example you could try shading the dress wrinkles and things like that just to make it seem a bit less flat and more lively! for the shading on the face, try shading the nose and around the eyes too and generally layering shading.
the hair seems a bit stiff, try painting in some hair and making it curve a bit more to loosen it up 0:
other than that just keep practicing, also referencing other artists and stuff like that tends to help but it's A+ if your starting out.

i totally agree i should have shaded it more..and worked on the hair more instead of just drawing twigs for pigtails xD thanks for your critique though!
