Crocheting ! ^_^

Acrylic yarn is typically cheaper which is why I recommend it! Michaels sells clover hooks (as a whole set and singles) so you'd be able to use one of their coupons on it!

The stuffing doesn't really matter. Michaels or Walmart whatever is cheaper. It's called polyfil and it won't feel super soft to the touch but that's fine because it makes it easier to stuff into arms/legs of your creations.

Oh!! You will need Tapestry Needles to sew in your ends from your projects. Theyre like big sewing needles, I use the metal clover ones. Plastic ones are hit or miss I wouldn't want to deal with it snapping. You can get bent ones, I've never tried them though.

Safety eyes or buttons for the eyes of your creation, too. You can find a little bundle at Michaels but I think it's a better deal to get them off Amazon.

Sorry oh my goodness there's a lot of little parts you need. I had No Chill and jumped feet first into the hobby lol so it's been a minute since I've tallied up what you need for the lil amigurumis.

You could sew on eyes (embroider them) I'm just. Bad at that so I prefer the little eyes!
Thank you so much for all the tips!! I've written a lil shopping list of supplies I'll need ^^ I totally feel you though, I ALWAYS go all in with new hobbies and buy everything under the sun so it's nice to have a little list of stuff I'll ACTUALLY need lol. I feel like I'm going to shop for proper supplies rather than kits. I think it's better to actually invest than rely on kits' supplies.

Hi everyone c:

I'm currently in the process of revamping the original post, lol!
I want to include all sorts of tips and tutorials for beginners, etc. If anyone has any ideas on what to put, I'll be forever thankful 🙏

With that being said.. I made a question of the week prompt,,, that I'll probably forget to update every week... but! I figured since we're starting to get a crocheting club of sorts going on here, I'd love to start getting everyone involved hehe :3

Hi everyone! I haven’t gone out and bought anything yet because I’m still figuring out which project I want to start with first. There’s so many creative stuff! I do have a few questions :)

This poncho sweater on instagram the other day caught my eye and I would like to crochet something similar! Has anyone done something like this? Would you say it’s beginner friendly?

For someone who has yet to make crochet clothing.. aside from a scarf >< I'd have to say, by looking at the stitch being used.. it looks complex to me xD;; Then again.. I've never made anything like that before T^T
But I'm sure you could make one, if you put your mind to it! There's probably a TON of beginner friendly tutorials for ponchos/shawls/sweaters that look like that!

I found a tutorial of something that looks similar to the image you've shared.. but I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for 🤔 I think this may be easier, but that's just my honest opinion 😭 Take my opinion with a grain of salt! ;w;
Let me see if I can follow the tutorial I linked, I have a ton of yarn xD

EDIT: I also.. found a tutorial from one of my favorite crochet YouTubers.. Right here! This looks more like what you're aiming for, although.. I do think Kamryn uses granny squares in this >< I just wanted to post this one though so you have options :3

I agree, it does look complex. It’s really cute so I thought maybe, just maybee it could be beginner friendly 🤣

I watched a somewhat similar one on YouTube but I honestly didn’t understand and was lost a few minutes into it. The tutorial for the crochet shawl looks way more doable for me so it would be best to start there. Thanks so much for the advice! Appreciate it

Look at what finally made its way to Canada!!

I spotted them at Walmart!!! They had the other granny square version too but the flower one is what interested me. I actually had a little gift card for Walmart so I picked up the purple skein!! I'm excited to play around with it.

I made a square!! I think this might be my first time actually completing a granny square. I havent blocked it (literally just finished it a few minutes ago!) So the edges are a bit wonky. It's 6 inches tall/wide, pretty big imo!!

I had a lot of fun making it! I have pretty tight tension when I crochet (typically needed for making amigurumi) so this was definitely something different! The yarn asks for a 5.5 mm hook and I ended up using a 7mm. The only 7mm I have is one by Walmart and the hook length is shorter than my Clover hooks so it was a little tricky to get used to.

I did have to redo some sections a few times. Part of that could also be because my self taught way of crocheting isn't technically right. I dont yarn over (or under??) correctly when I crochet I'm not using quite as much yarn. For this project I had to be mindful with how I was yarning over (doing it the correct way) to use a more accurate amount of yarn.

What do you mean by self taught? Like, youtube videos and such?

I am asking, because I am wondering if there are crotcheting classes available in person.

I feel Iike online videos and instructions may be the way to go though, nowadays.

What are your thoughts?
