I just really love snow globes okay ~ so kitsch and magical 🤩💕
wanted to go for a magical midwinter feeling as I’m much more solstice inclined than Christmassy 😅

Here is my submission! I drew the base of the snowglobe and the snow boy digitally, used a white paint pen to create the look of glass/frostiness and the snowflakes, and ran it through my laminator to seal everything in. The result is a snowboy ornament with a see through snowglobe!

Animal Crossing Christmas Tree Ornament with embedded Leaf Logo. 3D Printed out of PLA plastic. I wish I had other colors than orange on hand, but none were guaranteed to arrive on time. Model is my own work in Fusion 360 (can provide source files for anyone who requests them - just DM).

Here's my entry! It's a pair of dung beetles rolling up a snowman together! (Or... maybe rolling it apart again?) I had the idea that maybe for Toy Day, Flick has decided to try his hand at ornaments, with his own personal flair of course. That's why I've put his emblem there!

None of my business but genuine question as to why this didn't get accepted?

Like if Jeff made the machine by himself, designed the model by himself how is it any different for using pre-made resources like cottom wool for an ornament or doing digital art. It's literally a mixture of the two?

  • Entries must be your own work and you must make everything yourself.
  • You can use craft supplies but cannot use other people's work or any other pre-made components.
  • Submissions can be hand drawn, digital, or crafted. << Is a mixture of these two?
  • A reasonable amount of effort should be put into your creations. Submissions that appear rushed or made as a joke won't be accepted.

Like he can prove he did it all and normally I wouldnt say anything but that actually seems so dumb. Like he followed all the rules.

Full disclosure: jeff said not to post anything about it, but I'm genuinely confused if he followed all the rules why its not accepted lmao

I think the "pre-made components" clause is a bit ambiguous. Frankly, I don't understand why clear plastic or glass ornament bulbs wouldn't be accepted, provided the individual making the ornament put a significant amount of effort into it (ie. painting details, glitter, other embellishments). I don't really see how it's much different from just drawing a circle using the circle tool in photoshop.

Like if I rolled a ball out of clay, inserted a jump ring and ribbons, how different is that from taking a clear glass bulb and decorating on top of that? The difference is pretty minimal tbh.

I agree that the 3d printed item looks fantastic, and it should be accepted.

But I could be stretching things too much, if it was decided beforehand I won't push on it any more than this.

What counts as a craft material? I feel like this is open to interpretation. I used a blank clear bulb out of the DIY crafting section at Micheals craft store and painted it (not using a pre-existing coloured bulb) and my entry was denyed also. I'm not looking to have my entry re-accepted but I saw other people read the rules & make the same mistake as me.. Maybe I'm just salty cause I spent hours letting the yellow paint dry between layers lmao.

tbf if you *only* put something like glitter into a clear glass bulb and called it an ornament, I feel staff would be correct to reject it for lack of effort, but if there's say even 5-10mins of effort into at least hot gluing glitter outside in a pattern, I would call that fine.

but it's not my judgement. I didn't get to see your ornament, I'm sure it was great! :)

I think that entries not accepted due to rule ambiguity should be accepted for this event and the rules should simply be made more clear next time. Some people have spent hours on their entries only to be denied by ambiguous rules. It’s not fair to the people who spent lots of time on an entry.

I wasn't trying to start loads of questioning, and I apologize as I agree that something like a premade ornament shouldn't be accepted, its literally already made.

But jeff made the machine, designed the ornament and made it all from scratch. I think having a premade structure and building the structure from plastic or clay from scratch are VERY different.

Oh no I painted the outside and it took forever. I just used a clear blank base cause I thought that was within the rules.
