The Egg Noggin

This Christmas, be sure to keep an eye on those ornaments! The big-headed creature known as The Egg Noggin will make an attempt to take over Christmas, turning all of your shiny sparkly ornaments into eggs! If you notice one of your ornaments has taken on a more ovular appearance than usual, be sure to dispose of it quickly, for the eggening has begun! If the infection is not handled with haste it will spread to the others around it, and you'll be scrambling to save your precious Christmas tree! The Egg Noggin - He's no yolk!
Myths of Merriment p2.jpg

I imagined The Egg Noggin as some dread cross between Humpty Dumpty and Zipper T. Bunny and now you all have to see it too

The Shivering Snowmen

It's said that you should never leave your snowman bare. Without a hat, gloves or scarf, snowmen are left out in the cold all winter. they can be seen shaking violently on cold nights. Sometimes the shaking is so bad that they even lost their faces.
So please, dress up your snowman!

every year as people begin to bake for the holidays, some folks will create their own gingerbread men. some people have said that if you make a good enough batch, you'll be visited by this cute little gingerbread man who'll help you out in the kitchen! i do believe that befriending one of these little guys will surely make the holidays that much more tasty.

Tree Light Sprites
~~~
Aren't blown bulbs the worst? One goes out, and now the entire line of lights is useless! Well, what if I told you there's a culprit that causes your holiday light blues?
Believed to be fae of some kind, Tree Light Sprites are more likely to be akin to some sort of insect. It is also commonly believed that these creatures only appear in the winter- but this isn't the case. Tree Light Sprites are a creature that is active all months of the year, but in the cool and dark months of winter, seek shelter inside of homes, especially those that are lavishly decorated for the holidays. Feeding off of the light that holiday decorations give off, these crafty creatures pop open the covering of not just tree lights, but any holiday light, seeking shelter inside of the bulb. While this method is relatively inconsequential in the short term, the long term absorption of light will dim and eventually snuff out the light. Often times, a light will appear radiant still, as that is the Tree Light Sprite's defense mechanism, to radiate the light they absorbed in order to not have their current nest replaced and tossed into the trash.
Tree Light Sprites get their names due to being most commonly found clustering in and around Christmas Trees, as a tree provides many places to hide, and a chance at companionship in the winter months. Sprites get lonely too! It is theorized that these creatures, before the widespread usage of electrical lights, would hibernate underground in the winter in colony burrows. It is unknown why they take such a fancy to festive lighting, but many believe they simply can't help but give into the holiday cheer. While a bit of a nuisance at times, some appreciate these sprites, leaving out gingerbread houses for them to play in and enjoy when everyone in the home is asleep. It is said that getting on the good side of a community of sprites will bring you good luck in the new year, and prevent them from ruining all of your lights... but that can't exactly be confirmed.
The Friendly Robin
Do you also enjoy watching birds feast on all the snacks and treats you put out in your garden during the coldest months? Helping out these little feathered friends can be such a joy and really warm your heart. And legend goes that the visit of a robin to your garden in December predicts a wonderfully fruitful coming year in the garden, with trees, shrubs and plants growing abundantly. And with of course a friendly little robin cheering you on!
❄️The Snow-Feathered Crane❄️
Have you ever wondered where snow actually comes from? It does come from clouds, but not in the way you might think. It comes from a bird that lives inside the clouds, the Snow-Feathered Crane.
These avian creatures soar through the clouds, with snowflakes falling gently off their wings as they fly. Their wings are also made of snow, so they can’t live in warmer climates, which is why they live at such high altitudes. While they inhabit all clouds, in warmer areas, their snowflakes will melt before they touch the ground if it’s too warm, so it’s less noticeable if it’s not cold enough. They make their nests on top of clouds and usually need a lot of sleep. Their eggs and, by extension, children, also need a lot of attention and care, so they have a lot to deal with at a time. If it ever feels really cold but it’s not snowing, that’s probably why.
If you’re going to visit someone out of the country this holiday season, keep an eye out for one of these cranes when you’re flying. There’s hundreds of them in just one cloud, so you might be able to spot at least one.
The gentle skies welcomed the cold breeze of winter. (also Yoshi155's mythical creature sounds actually cool so I drew the snow-feathered crane, enjoy!)
The Wreath With Teeth
img_6999-jpeg.603679
The Wreath with Teeth
The winter holiday season is filled with lights and laughter, love and joy. For the good people of the world, their kind souls will be rewarded with gifts and good fortunes.
But winter is also a time of darkness and danger, and the not-so-good people, with souls full of evil, must beware of the peril they face.
For it is only to these unfortunate scoundrels that The Wreath with Teeth will appear. Ornamented with jewels, glittering with gold, The Wreath is indeed most tempting. But as the rascal approaches, closer and closer, and finally reaches out a hand - The Wreath shows its Teeth and devours its victim, who will never do evil again.
The Tinsel Weasel
Actually an entire weasel subspecies, the tinsel weasel has been mythologized as a single creature by human writers. This weasel craves the tinsel garlands once commonly wrapped around Christmas trees, banisters, and mantelpieces in December. Emerging only at night, the tinsel weasel firmly grasps the tinsel string with one paw and pulls the tinsel through its own clasped fist. Small bristles on the paw pad strip all the tiny metallic strands from the tinsel, leaving only a thick bare string behind. The weasel stuffs these strands in cheek pouches and an abdominal pouch to carry them back to its den, where it lines every surface with the tinsel. Tinsel weasels’ coats absorb nutrients from the tinsel, and over time can even take on some of the sheen and color of the tinsel. They also chew the individual strands to keep their teeth clean, absorb vitamins, and prevent anemia.
Some suggest that tinsel’s decline in popularity is due to human reluctance to meet the tinsel weasel. Though rumors have circulated online that contact with the tinsel weasel can spread disease, and elaborate bite hoaxes have been fabricated, the tinsel weasel poses no real threat. It is usually uninterested in humans and prefers to remain unseen.
If the whole household is friendly and keeps a respectful distance, your tinsel weasel may come to trust you and will occasionally emerge in daytime to complete its tinsel tasks. A tinsel weasel may even return in successive years to a house where it felt comfortable. However, the species cannot and should not be domesticated. When done with respect, replenishing the tinsel and enjoying the sight of the weasel’s efficient gathering can be a cherished component of any family’s holiday traditions.
The Unbalanced Snowboy
On a snowy winter day when you are playing in the snow, an unbalanced snowboy may appear before you. He has a large round head and a tiny round body. He has trouble standing upright due to his strange proportions. Although he looks comical and harmless at first, all must beware. He seeks revenge on the child who brought him into this world and left him to live with his strange body, never receiving admiration due to his imperfect appearance. If you are not careful, the unbalanced snowboy may mistake you for his creator and you will find yourself on the receiving end of his revenge...
He's coming for ya...
The Tale of Jingle Nut
Hidden deep in the forest in a snow covered town lies a jolly squirrel with a golden bell for a tail named Jingle nut. He scurries from house to house every year on Christmas eve leaving little nuts wrapped in sparkly leaves on doorsteps. They say the nuts are magic, and if you crack one open while singing a Christmas song, it’ll fill your house with laughter that lasts all year long. No one knows where Jingle nut comes from, but kids leave him crumbs of cookies and tiny mittens to keep him warm.
The Christmas Shell
Have you ever heard the gentle sound of snow falling? Not all have beheld this magical wonder. Even if you live in a nonfavorable climate, there’s still a chance for you to hear this mystical sound in all its glory. If you ever happen to come across a shell shaped like a star, hold it to your ear and just listen. For this shell is filled with the spirit of Christmas. You will not hear the ocean like many other shells, but a gentle snowfall. When this happens make a wish, it is a star after all. I must warn you though, that wish could become a curse if your heart has ill intentions.
idk why my first thought when I read "non-favourable climate" was "beach", but I went with it!! I also thought adding Celeste would make sense because... star... and also she's faerie's favourite npc hehe
Here's my entry!
~The Holiday Nisse~
The holiday season is a time full of magic and merriment. The cozy lights, carols, sparkling decorations and jingling bells are only part of it. As children we are told about the magic of Santa, his helpful little elves, and the flying reindeer that pull his sleigh.
Some magical friends that often get missed, however, are the holiday Nisse. They're related to both regular Nisse and Christmas Elves and perhaps that's why they are forgotten. They're smaller than both of their relatives, about the size of a candy cane - although much wider! They are rotund fellows. Despite their big hats they actually have quite the eye for detail. Some say the reason they hide their eyes is because the world is too overwhelming for them otherwise. They store their magic in their beards, which is why they keep them so long. The longer the beard the stronger the holiday Nisse's magic.
The holiday Nisse are responsible for the upkeep of the holiday spirit. They work in the shadows to make sure things run smoothly. They ensure that the candles in kinaras stay lit and upright, that the stockings stay firmly hung in their places, and that the dreidel spin falls in everyone's favour at least once. They are responsible for the smaller things, too. The way the scissors glide through fresh wrapping paper or when you have just enough room on the cookie sheet for the last ball of dough.
I love the little gnomes with their long beards and big hats!! They aren't explicitly tied to the holidays although this tends to be when people think of them. Traditionally they're supposed to bring good luck/be house helpers year round so I decided to create a holiday specific variation. Hopefully that fits the prompt!!
I tried my best, hopefully it’s acceptable c:
Happy Holidays!
The Clawed Present
These monsters appeared during winter disguised themselves as various packages and presents to scare unsuspecting villagers. They may look like a normal gift when being seen, but they actually look hideous and at times horrifying in their true forms.
The true form is described to have Ribbons that were shaped like claws and they can grow multiple of these ribbon-like arms, the box-like body possesses multiple eyes in which they can see through everything. Inside these clawed presents lies an empty black hole that can sometimes include missing items although it's an ilusion. You can only escape from the black hole once you have a star fragment in your possession which you can get outside during night or within the depths inside the black hole.
Not to worry, that red stuff on its ribbons, that's just uhhh cranberry sauce... yeah.
The Legendary Snow Sphinx!
Have you ever wondered what a sphinx would look like if it was made out of snow instead of sand??? Well, wonder no longer! These giant creatures love to jump around mountains, making heavy crashing noises when they land and sending snow and ice everywhere. But be careful if you ever get close to one, because you might be crushed by an avalanche! The snow sphinx can also disassemble and reassemble itself using snow and ice anywhere, so be extra careful, because despite their large size, these creatures are quick! However, if you're able to befriend one of these legendary creatures, it can become your strongest ally!
The sneaky Santa snake
Every year when it is the high time of the gift giving season, Santa snake, a green snake with a red and golden pattern on her back, puts on her little red Santa hat adorned with a silver bell at the brim and gets on with her work. She sneaks into everyone's homes and helps to decorate any trees - or even plants if she can't find a tree - with cute paper stars and hearts. Those paper stars and hearts are magical and made by herself, and they glimmer and sparkle and are supposed to bring happiness and joy to everyone!
This made me smile so hard because I love snakes (and decorating trees/ plants)! Imagining her trying her best to make the decorations and spread cheer through magic…. Bless her :”) Excuse her magic paper scraps.
I hope I did your creation justice roseflower ^^;
The Mistletormentor
You've probably heard of Mistletoe, but have your heard of it's lesser-known imposter: The Mistletormentor?
The Mistletormentor hangs above doorways, lying in wait for unlucky passersby. It looks like plain, unassuming mistletoe, with the only distinguishable difference being an eerie glow when in the dark.
Whenever an unsuspecting couple shares a kiss under the Mistletormentor, it will suddenly burst into flames! And an eerie cackle can be heard as it disintegrates... Aside from the obvious fire hazard, there is another danger it imposes- legend has it, any couple who encounters the Mistletormentor will break up within 7 days 💔
Something about Pelly screams jealous, calculating arsonist...
