Digital or physical edition?

I always go physical due to preference.

Digital has the benefit of pre-loading, and often 'early' access to the game (generally only a few hours early), but has some huge risks tied to it many don't realize.

1. If Switch eShop servers go down in the future, you won't be able to redownload your game.
2. Loss of access to your Nintendo Account (hacks, etc) means you lose your game.
3. You don't have a cartridge case to put on a shelf. :y

I've already come to terms with all that and still think digital is the vibe.
I'd say it's way easier to lose a small cartridge rather than a whole switch. Digital has slightly faster load times. And no clutter.

Physical copies do make more sense when it comes to selling or trading games but I'd never want to sell my town.

I preordered a physical copy from EB Games. Going to pick it up the morning of release day and hopefully get a poster as well. :)

The preorder bonuses were the only thing drawing me to physical but everything got scooped up so fast lol I'm glad you might get a prize. c:

Both. Digital for my AC:NH Switch, physical for my Neon Switch (kids).

Decided on physical because I like the box art being displayed somewhere. For most games it also gives me the chance to sell it back later (never selling this or fire emblem though). Also I get to pick it up at midnight since the store I pre-ordered it at is doing a midnight release! :)

i want a physical copy but it would be handy to have it downloaded since i could play it earlier and wouldn't have to switch out the cartridge if i wanted to play another game. but i'm most likely going to get a physical copy only.

I usually prefer to get a physical copy just because I like the feeling of "owning" something.

I'm trying the minimalist lIfEsTylE (It just sounds so pretentious) so I picked between getting a physical copy or the guide. The guide will be my thing to hold and obsess over.

This will be the first AC game I've purchased digital. It's nice to be able to play it anytime without worrying about a carrying case or losing it, which has been rare, but has happened before. But I ordered physical as well, couldn't resist the journal. I plan to sell the extra copy along with my original switch at a later point. Keeping the game case though.

I usually insist on physical copies so that I can play them on any system and save system memory space, but those aren't concerns this time around... Decided to get digital so that I can have the convenience of always having the game on my switch, which will better encourage me to play daily even when I get other new games later.

I'm lucky enough to be getting one of each since we will have two Switches. If I had to choose just one though, I'd go with physical. I like to actually own something solid, and I want my journal pre order bonus. The only draw for digital is that I get to play at 9pm on the 19th, which admittedly is a pretty big draw for me. So I'm definitely happy I get the best of both worlds.

Gotta go physical here. I have a big AC collection and of course it's gonna go right in there.

Physical for me. Pre-ordered my copy from EB Games here in Australia. Hoping for it to arrive on release day but I may even get it a day early. (Here?s hoping.)

Ditto! Only I ordered it about a month ago.
We get a keychain from them.

Physical copy, I pre-ordered mine at Target in the US to get that journal bonus.
I hope I get it on the day of the release and not a few days later.

I agree, even though I?m buying the physical copy.

I used to be all digital from 2014-2019. But then, I missed owning favourites in physical form. There?s just nothing quite like loving a game and knowing you actually own it.

I find it quite annoying switching between cartridges on the Switch. It?s definitely not as smooth as it was on DS/3DS systems. The flap doesn?t even need to really be there imo. Maybe they could?ve given us the option to be able to detach it. But it doesn?t bother me that much.

Whether people like it or not, an all-digital age is coming sooner than we think. Though, I think physical copies will still be around thanks to Limited Run Games and whatnot. It?ll just be more of a niche thing. :p

Retailers sending out games too early is really not that uncommon, every time there's a new big release a bunch of people will post a day early how their copy already arrived.

While that?s definitely true, it?s also a gamble. Sure you might get it earlier, but there?s also a risk of it arriving later. The digital version, at least where I live, is a guaranteed 9PM availability the day before.

I think I pre-ordered my copy on the 12th of last month. Only gave me the option for standard delivery, but oh well.

I could have purchased a copy from Amazon for only $35 thanks to discounts but from memory we discussed how unreliable they can be and they’ve been using Fastway recently which can make things even worse sometimes. Plus, having one of the keychains is a nice little bonus. That way I can just keep it snug in the case too.

It's standard delivery, but their preorders ship a couple of days before release so you can have it (hopefully) on release day. :)

I'm going all digital on the switch, but even if I wasn't I'd go digital for AC.

A game like BOTW, you play a lot until you beat it, and then only occasionally. Not a lot of switching carts most likely. But AC, you play a bit every day, then you might switch to another game like an RPG or whatever. Digital makes that easy, cos AC is always on your switch.
