It's not worth bidding for most items. You'll often end up paying more than it would cost to just buy the item or not get it and just completely waste your time.
I've never lost an ebay auction lmao albeit I've only bid on 5 with gixen and I won all of them for a price I'm more happy to pay. (Much lower than msrp.) I really like ebay haha, I got ath m40x for 75 dollars shipped and that's important because shipping costs about 20 dollars where I live lol.
Yes, I've ordered a few things on there. Most were smaller items that costed $15 or less, but after the first couple of items I decided I needed a bass clarinet. Lol. (I could have just waited a few months until the local music store put them on consignment, but I had not made the connection that they would do that quite yet)
I found a number of them and narrowed down to one. I held the highest bid for quite some time. but when it came down to the last day or so it began to turn into a battle. In the end it was a hard-fought battle that I won in literally the last few seconds. It was a fierce battle, but nope, no one outbids a crazy woodwind lady in getting her desired woodwind. Lol.
Still I would not recommend bidding on such things unless you really know what you're doing. I was not playing it too smartly myself. But I came to find out that I actually got a pretty good deal. I once played with a bassoon player who got a nice bassoon off of eBay - the same model I played on - for a ridiculously cheap price... So sometimes these things do work out very well.
Woo bass clarinet! My church music director bought one for me to use and keep at home. I had it for years. I recently left that church, though, so gave it back (even though we had a new music director since then). One day I may get my own bass clarinet. One day. That's a bit more of an investment than an old model ipad, unfortunately haha.
Bass clarinet is amazing! I unfortunately never really got to learn it, because right when it came in was when I was "called" to learn and play the oboe. Very long story. Nevertheless, I have got to bring it into a number of elementary school classes and talk about the brass/woodwind instruments. Kids are always so amused by the lowest note, which sounds like like a ship's horn. lol I'm just impressed by the vibration. I've played the bassoon and contrabassoon, but for some reason that low note on the bass clarinet impressed me more. lol
I hope you get one someday! At the local music shop that puts instruments on consignment I saw one for $200 once. That sounds awful, but it's from a reputable store so I'm sure it was actually decent. Ebay gets decent deals, too, but you have to be careful, of course.
