PWP hunting was A STRUGGLE 😭🤚
yesss, sitting out in the ocean with your diving suit on for like 7 mins with the stopwatch item, then coming back and someones thinking and they go "i want you to have this stupid piece of trash shirt i found in my basement!" AND THEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. AND FOR WHAT????

I KNOW LOL IT WAS SO BAD AND HORRIBLE HAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The rating system does conflict with my design choice, but I do not let it limit my creative freedom.

The system IS flawed since you can cheat around it by bombarding your island with fences, hedges and trees. Then letting your flowers grow naturally. I aimed for it only so I could get the DIY and get lilies of the valley, but after that, I did my own thing.

I never experienced any problems with the rating system! It didn’t bother me what my island 🌟 rating was, and I liked that Isabelle offered pretty clear advice on how to improve the rating! 😊 I didn’t mind the rating system because it felt like little goals to achieve! It also gave me more reason to interact with Isabelle, and she‘s so excited to tell you that the island is a 5-star island and people love it! I also like hearing the quotes she reads out.

I don’t think she ever wanted me to change my island in a way I wasn’t already planning to change it, so I suppose that could be why I liked the island-rating aspect of the game. Having a 5-star rating is also nice to get the gold watering can, and of course the Lily of the Valley flowers. I just love seeing those pop up.

I completely understand that people might prefer no rating system though, especially if they feel it limits their creativity! 😊

Yea I spent so much time doing this. Then when they finally suggested a new PWP it was for one you wouldn’t use.

The rating system definitely has its flaws. It’s why I don’t pay any attention to it anymore. I haven’t bothered to ask about my rating since I got the recipe for the golden watering can.

It's extremely flawed but I don't know how they could improve it... I honestly don't think of it as a "rating" system because a good chunk of 5-star islands have been ugly. In fact, I have an ugly 5 star island right now! I got it by just putting random items around my island lol. To me it's more like another useless, arbitrary goal they added like some of the Nook Miles Achievements. I wish it were a one-time thing where it's like, "Oh you reached 5 star status! Here's your Golden Watering Can DIY and from now on you may see Lily of the Valleys pop up." And you never have to deal with the rating again. It's extremely frustrating if you're trying to get a lot of Lily of the Valleys by yourself without trading. I noticed I hadn't seen one in a while so I went to Isabelle and she said I had too many things scattered on the floor. I thought it strange because I hadn't put anything on the ground so I went around the island and realized that sometimes after shaking trees, I would miss the coins because they were hidden by other trees or furniture. I picked them up and got 5 stars again. After get enough flowers, I'm going decorate my island how I want which I'm sure will not satisfy Isabelle. Also, same thing with the Happy Home Academy. Sorry for having "trash" in my house but I like my Lost Item book!

The rating system only mattered to me when I wanted the golden watering can. Now, I couldn't be bothered what Isabelle thinks. It is sort of weird that she complains that there are too many trees. I wanted to make arboreal island and decided not to because of that when I first started. My plans have changed since then but they should let players have as many trees as they want.

Its not so much as flawed, as it is limiting and for people who want to create their own theme as well as a five star island-well you have to bend, and work with her requests. Which is why I call it limiting, and firm.

Half the time its about flowers, and trees, to much or too little. She's very perticular.

Or you ignore that. Because not everyone wants to make a green paradise.

Isabelle currently keeps telling me to add more trees, but Im not, and she also dislikes how I have barely have any flowers.

Well, my town isnt exactly susposed to be floral, its based on a small mountain town. So I don't think my main island will ever have a five star rating, but Im not striving to make an Issabelle, five star approved island.

This little idea is what I want, so Im just gonna do it, and not care about the rating, or lack of floral designs she strives to have.

Its hilarious that I don't have much flowers on my 2nd island yet I got a 5 star rating.

Why is it important? That system is irrelevant after the first 14 days or so - after KK has come for his concert.

As someone with a forested island, I do find the ratings to be annoying. I also dislike the ‘clutter’ mech in the ratings as well, especially during the Fall when I drop a ton of mushrooms, pinecones, etc, to get a more natural feel. Apparently, Isabelle considers this trash and drops my rating. 🤨

It's definitely flawed, but I think all number ratings systems are fundamentally flawed, especially when used for more artistic pursuits that are so reliant on personal taste anyway. And I can see why they implemented it; in a game designed to be played for so long, it makes sense to offer the player some goals to reach and find ways to give them a sense of progression and accomplishment. It's really arbitrary and can definitely work against the vision and goals on some islands, but I think that's offset by the fact that the main reward is fully unlocked by just hitting five stars one time and the reward for sustaining it is purely cosmetic. I guess it still sucks if you really REALLY like lilies of the valley and want to have a lot of them, but if you're regularly building up your island and coming up with things to put together I think reaching five stars is basically inevitable.

I definitely fudged it and got to a point where I just put random little bits together in different places without worrying too much about design or aesthetic. There are still lots of places that look pretty bare so I think eventually I'll progress to the point where I don't even really have to think about it at all. I think the fact that its really achievable to grow past the need to manage island ratings is what makes me not mind it so much.

I worked towards 5 stars when I first had mine island. Once I had it, I stopped worrying about it. I don’t mind the system since you don’t actually have to keep it there.

Yeah and I didn't care how bare bones my island was. I am just glad that I can finally get Lily of the Valley flowers growing on cliffs. Despite me having not much flowers on the 2nd island I still gotten a 5 star rating.

I love trees so naturally I hate the Perfect Island rating system. I kept to the rules for a year and then decided, heck, I have enough Jacob's Ladders so I'm just gonna go ahead and plant more trees. There's not much benefit really to keeping a 5-star perfect island.

I am in the middle of doing a massive move around/ Clean up so a lot of the time I just have random items placed or dropped all over the island. And when I log in to start the day I have 1 star but the more I add and drop stuff it goes to 5 stars which makes no sense cause its just items that have been dropped not placed.

I neded a 5 star for the golden watering can and was so frustrated that I cold never seem to get it.

During Festivale, I was literally throwing all the decorations into a pile (so to speak) until the Festivale was done. I left it there for a while and voila! 5 star rating thanks to all the “decorating” I had done.

I just threw random furniture all over my island to get the watering can, and because I put off working on my island for quite a while, I got a bunch of flowers too. Now I have 5 stars just from a few decorated spots and leaving stuff that I want to use one the beach.

Tip: If you need flowers for the rating but don't want too many clogging up your island, plant them on that mandatory one tile space behind cliffs.
