I used to have a diary in middle school and I would write in it daily. One day when I got home from school, my mom talked to me and said, "I read your Tea Book (the name my middle school self came up with)." Anyways, that made me too nervous to keep another one around. I may start a new one, I don't know yet.

So I suppose this thread has inspired me to start another diary. I no longer live in the same circumstances where I have to fear that a friend or family member will invade my privacy. It's not themed over anything specific (travel, creative projects, etc.), just something I now do infrequently in order to work through some rather complicated emotions. I don't know if it will help or not, but when I was at the store recently, I just felt compelled to grab a blank journal.

Yes, I've been doing it for years, but sometimes I feel like it's a bit pointless as I only write about minor events that happened to me during the week and find it very difficult to actually write about my emotions.

My diary was stolen last week by a relative. Thankfully I found it, but I now understand why people are discouraged from keeping one. Although I have ordered a new door knob (with lock and key), I'll keep my diary entries on a flash drive from now on. At least until my diary doesn't feel tainted anymore.

I don't specifically keep a journal documenting my day to day life activities, but I keep a "gamer journal" so to speak? Each time I complete a game, I'll write an entry that's half review/half personal experiences with that game. The personal experiences part can make it a bit like a journal of my life. I've been keeping this up since 2016.

That's cool that this thread inspired you to try journaling again. I hope you can work through your emotions, if not through journaling then by some other method.

That's terrible! I do think that's probably one of the more discouraging things about keeping a diary. I wish other people would show more respect for privacy.

A gamer journal sounds really cool! I do something similar in my journal with books that I've read and rarely, but sometimes, TV shows or movies that I found particularly thought-provoking. I'll also sort of half review them and jot down the thoughts and feelings they inspired in me.

I do kind of keep a journal but I am VERY inconsistent. I only write when something exciting happens. Its such a fun idea to put your happiness into words, I love my journal because I can remember any fun adventures that way. My mother says I will be able to visit te print shop next week so I can get some pictures printed for my journal! I love looking at the pictures of me and my family :) Side not I get to print some AC screenshots to glue on the back of my amiibo binder!

The most I have now is a sketchbook I draw whatever weird stuff I think up. But other than that the only diary I had was when I was a kid and not planning to make one soon cause my family is nosy.

I try to use my journals for freewriting, story/character ideas, or to write down a phrase or excerpt I really want to use, but I also tend to make a lot of random lists for the fun of it. (Not story related.) I think I suck at keeping my ideas written down because I keep a lot in my head as well.
I don't like remembering bad days, so if something good happens, I make sure to record it. Even if it's something simple, like my friend sending me a cute animal TikTok. I want to remember my happiness so I don't sabotage it.

dude, i used to have one when i was younger too, but i stopped writing mine in fear of the same reason. i don't even know where it is now tbh, but i hope i can start one someday without having to worry about it being read w/o permission

I've had journals on and off as a kid but a few years ago I decided it'd be nice to have a journal for venting, planning, writing about my day, etc. I've kept up with it almost everyday for about 2 years now I think?

It's been really helpful to express myself about certain personal problems that I'd feel uncomfortable going back to a therapist about. I also had a really bad habit of sending WALLS of text to friends so this helped me cut back on that level of venting and learn to be a bit more concise.

It's also helped me keep track of some goals like when I decided to replace every videogame I ever broke, lost, or pirated as a kid! I'd make a note in the journal every time I got a new game, would update the list, and get to blabber about how excited I was for the replacement to come in.

That being said, I also think journals have been a way for me to express myself since I don't use social media or forums in general. I really want to work my way up to writing online in forums and social media and on fanfiction sites, so journals have been a private way for me to practice (without worrying of messing up or annoying anyone).

For almost the last year I’ve filled almost 3 journals. It is one of the few things that help me on a high anxiety day or when i’m having a panic attack. It’s on of the few coping mechanisms that have helped ground me and bring me back down to reality. I’ve also started junk journaling and that has been a blast for me. I wish could start a bujo, but I feel like im nowhere near organized enough for that.

Yes, but I don't write as often as I used to. I've had my current journal since 2021, but I've only filled in about 20 pages. 😅 I've had a couple journals/diaries when I was younger, but I lost one of them and burnt the pages of another.

I’ve kept journals on and off, but with varying levels of commitment!

They’ve always been physical journals, but since October I’ve been keeping digital journal entries. I still have my physical journal, but it's going mostly unused at the moment. I mostly made the change because I’ve been dedicating a lot more time to writing in it daily. Admittedly, I thought the digital entries were going to be a temporary solution while I had a lot I wanted to write, but as I continue to write a lot daily, I'm going to need to come up with a better system than I'm currently using! 📚

i love my journal, even if i dont write in it i use it to glue in any little papers or things i get and like, like maybe the tag from a shirt i get or a recipt from a restaurant. my journals end up being THICK because of all the stuff i have glued in. its also easier for me to have than a sketchbook.

I used to keep a diary in elementary and middle school. It was so cringe that I destroyed a lot of the pages. I wish I could find them again, just to torture myself lol. I do currently keep a dream journal though. Currently I have 107 dreams logged since 2019, plus a few more on my mom’s computer. I try to update it whenever I have a really memorable or interesting dream. I’m not perfect, but I’m proud of how much I’ve written down.

I used to have a diary in elementary school. It contained some of the most cringiest things I have ever written, and I have a whole treasure trove of terrible Cho x Harry fanfictions that I wrote when I was ten.

Currently, I do have a digital journal. I hardly write in it, but it's nice to have a place to chronicle my life.

I used to have one as a child but then I kinda gave up plus I didn’t want my diary to get stolen like you saw in all those kids movies haha

I always had that fear someone would steal it and read it haha but it had nothing juicy in it anyway hahaha
