I've never used my birth-first-name in any AC game...
And irl the name all of my family and friends call me is "Ricki", which isn't my mayor name either.
I choose the same mayor name though in every town, a name I don't even really remember how I acquired, I think my online friends at the time renamed me to that... I don't know anymore.
I name my character after my first name. I think it would be more immersive or reliable if I did so that way, if it was anything else, it might feel a little weird for me.
I always name my characters after myself instead of the name I'm "obsessed" with at the time because my own name is the only one I'll never eventually get tired of (even if I don't like it myself).
Yep. I've always named my character after myself in every game I've had over the years and I always do my character based off myself, which is long hair and bangs, with the light brown hair color and green or blue eyes (my eyes are a mixture of blue and green, so I can do either both).
I did at first and then shortened my name, and now just use whatever names I feel matches my town more, but still starting with the same first letter at least. Sometimes you just want to have a pretend life with a pretend alter-you and not make it so personal. Plus seeing my own name a million times got really annoying. Though I suppose I could've still continued to use my real name and have my villagers call me literally anything else. But it's not the same.
I just wanted to feel the fantasy of almost being someone else, so I opted for something made up. I use my nickname, Cat, to start characters on other games though. I just prefer to have a different name when it comes to animal crossing.
I usually go by my nickname in real life, (Mari, sounds like Mar-EEE) so I use it in games too. I always answer to it, that way. (That, and people ALWAYS mispronounce my actual name, and it drives me crazy. Although, they mispronounce my nickname, too... I can't win :'( )
I have enough trouble naming all of my Pok?mon, how am I supposed to name myself with ease? XD
No, I never name them after my real/birth name, I hate it. Usually I name it Sheila which is basically what I go by online or sometimes some other random name I like.
