Do you think they will add amiibo support in New Horizons?

I was just thinking about all the cards and figures that people have bought for HHD and ACAF. We know that the switch can read amiibo so im hoping that they will let us use the cards we bought. They might add it as an app in the Nook Phone later on...

Don't the cards act exactly like amiibo? Wouldn't they work without any extra addons? I'm genuinely asking, because I don't know.

With how popular the cards were, I am hoping for all previous amiibo cards and figures work and they might even make a set of cards for New Horizons if there are new villagers.

Maybe. But, I'm pretty sure it won't be for summoning villagers like in Welcome amiibo! Why, because Aya Kyogoku said in an interview with M. Sanchez from IGN that:
In New Leaf, we were able to recruit and invite Villagers to be part of our town. Kyogoku said there would be a system provide an opportunity to invite animals to the island, but not necessarily seek out one of Animal Crossing's many animals.

It would be stupid for them to create over 400 amiibo cards and around 15 figures, as well as the AC Smash amiibo, for them to not add amiibo functionality.

This game will be open to a wider audience than ever before who may have never experienced Animal Crossing before, or have only played the early games. There's a market for amiibo for those who are being introduced to the series or returning to the series.

You seem to forget that amiibo as a concept is pretty dead in a lot of the newer games and the wider audience you're talking about likely do not even own any of those amiibo. So I don't think that it's stupid at all, and I'm saying this as someone who owns 130 figures and 100 cards. Sure it sucks but it also makes sense. Especially since Nintendo hasn't rereleased many amiibo, it's unrealistic to expect them to reboot the entire concept after it gained a reputation especially around Animal Crossing.

By the way, what do you mean there's a market? In all honesty I think not many people care about anything Animal Crossing beyond the system it's on and the game. For many it's the only game they play on the system and it's a big investment as is already. I think the actual "market" for amiibo is MUCH MUCH smaller than the "market" for the actual game itself.

Also the Smash amiibo are now manfactured in smaller numbers and it's safe to say they're just being released to be consistent so that every fighter has an amiibo

Personally I think there might be amiibo functionality but I wouldn't be surprised if they just give you crafting materials or bells...

i think they'll add it, possibly in the nook phone like you said, op. if that's the case, i can see it being as you scan the amiibo and your character calls the villager you scanned in, like how pc does. not sure what it would do for npcs or figurines

I really hope they will include it somehow, because I have all of the Animal Crossing amiibos as well as almost all of the cards.
