Does anyone else find villager hunting on the mystery island oddly appealing?

I love island hopping a lot.. until I don’t if that makes sense lol. I love the idea that literally any villager can show up and I always look forward to going and trying to find a villager (I usually only have a personality in mind, although sometimes I’m just looking for anybody at all). The only problem I have with it is how time consuming it is to keep going back to the island and then back to a NMT island! my attention span varies for it but often I give up and end up buying a villager.

I agree. I wish they implement an option of directly going to a different island rather than returning home every single time.

MEE!!! hihihi 🤩 . I think the reason why i find it so appealing is because from the 600 or so villagers that exist i only know around hmm a handful to be honest so once i have the picture of a villager and they ask to go i let them go and im super happy that the next day i can ho island hoping. The way i do it is that if a Snooty one left i will only settle for another snooty , cause i like having each personality type in my island. Its such a fun and surprising trip every time i go island hoping and adopt and villager.
Im also extremely happy that no matter the tier rank in which villagers are they can all spam in the island so there are chances of finding anyone and everyone.

PS: I recently was island hopping and guess what !?! Tom the cat is a cranky villager i was super shock, good for me case i was looking for a cranky, BUT i thought he would have been definitely a lazy one if

I also find it appealing, I think I just like the not knowing and excitement of finding out who it will be...then the disappointment sets in when I see who it actually is haha

I will say though, that it does get old quick. If I can't find someone I want within 20 islands I give it over to chance, which also has its own appeal...I guess I just like the element of surprise...until the surprise is revealed (because it is usually one I didn't really want...same with the campers)

I love it lol I get excited for open spots... but I usually can only use 40 NMT at a time, I get a little tired from it

The way I approach Animal Crossing games since New Leaf has involved coming up with particular themes to base to town or island around and then finding specific villagers that fit the theme. Rather than have villagers for a while and then letting them move out, I have particular villagers I seek to acquire permanently. As such? No, I really strongly disliked island hopping.

It took actual weeks to find my Lazy resident Tucker, even when the pool the game could choose from was limited only to Lazy villagers. Saw a whole lot of Sherb and Zucker though. It was a giant nuisance and I'm glad that I acquired all of the villagers I wanted as residents months ago now so that I don't have to bother with island hopping anymore. I found the hunt so annoying that I sought out the amiibo of the other residents I wanted just so I wouldn't need to do it again.

it's super fun until you pass like 50 tickets and then it gets exhausting with the dodo dialogue; especially when i always have a few characters i want more than others and the game DEMANDS i take a chicken instead ... and it's never the chickens i actually like either lol.

that being said it also sucks having to pass on your faves for ones you need more (wanted a sisterly so i had to pass up lobo several times :(). i still VASTLY prefer this over letting it auto fill though. i do wish that you could exchange in-game bells for tickets and that there's always a villager on a mystery island even when you don't have an empty spot (and if you want them then you could choose who to replace on your island).

just the sheer posibility of encountering a villager i haven't seen or have forgotten, is so intriguing... but then i see barold and turn around :|

I find it oddly soothing, yes. Even if I never find a villager I like, or end up buying someone off someone on here, or end up grabbing someone I don't want that bad just because I need someone, I still enjoy the process. But, I tend to like random, repetitive things with a chance for rewards.

Like, if anyone here in on Neopets, I like pound surfing on there. I don't always have space to adopt a pet, but just seeing the different pets as they refresh... I find it very calming. It's weird, I know, but it works 😛

I like the idea of island hopping more than I do actually doing it. The first handful of islands always seem so bright and fresh, but after a few stacks of tickets where I see the same villagers I always do on spiral island or the generic pond + river island over and over again, I'm ready to be done lol

I love island hopping for villagers, found it really enjoyable searching for my all my dreamies and coming across some villagers I hadn't considered and then fell in love with. Also I like the risk of leaving behind someone that I might've thought about taking to see if I can find an even better villager on my remaining NMTs, not that its always worked out well taking the risk 😅
I'm pretty set on my villagers now so haven't done any mystery islands for some time but I am enjoying the break and taking the chance to actually focus on working on decorating my island. I know at some point though I will be tempted to let a villager leave so I can enjoy some more hunting on mystery tours.

I used to find island hopping appealing for the same reason: the surprise of a new, 'unknown' villager. I also enjoyed the aesthetic of mini islands and collecting whatever there was on them (materials, flowers, bottles, shells). 🥰

This went away after the first hundred or so visits because of the time investment for the entire process (e.g.: exchanging for one ticket at a time, traveling to and from), and the repetitive nature of something that wasn't exciting anymore.

i get really excited when i let a villager finally move away so i can go island hopping; i've only ever really successfully island hopped maybe three times in total. every other villager just moved themselves in, so i don't have that much experience yet to weigh down my opinion on it.

the feeling when you show up to a new mystery island to find out who you've stumbled upon is incredibly indescribable for me. subconsciously i end up holding my breath most of the time until i find them romping around.

I got my tenth villager months ago but back when I had the ability to meet new faces on mystery islands, it was pretty refreshing! I even met a few that I never knew before prior to island hopping. Queenie was one of them who has been my resident since and quickly became my favourite along with Sterling. Though I did face a similar issue like yours except it was with monkeys, even in my campsite lol.

It was exciting at first.

However, it will get old too fast. I spent over 600 tickets for a villager before.

I ended up buying their Amiibo after a friend gifted one to me.

For me, it is very appealing actually to go on mystery islands, even if the RNG sucks so much. At least you find some DIYs and furniture if you don't find your favorite villager right away, which is a morsel of consolation.

I enjoyed it for awhile, meanwhile my friend who played hated it. We both were intent on getting a set 10 to a degree, but I honestly let go of Molly recently despite considering her permanent for awhile cause I want to hunt and try out some of the other villagers I was interested in. Only awkward part is I designed them into my island as business owners and she ran my massive garden. So it feels weird to shoe horn someone else into the location. There are some tedious aspects of hunts for sure as it'd be nice to bulk buy tickets or hop mystery island to mystery island, but it was nice to meet and take in a new face. (Beau)
