I remember that maybe a half a decade to a decade ago, payphones were pretty much everywhere, all over the place. Now they are almost all gone around where I live, sometimes you can see big empty holes where the phones used to be.

I definitely get that it's probably primarily because of the rise of cell phones, but for me, I can't personally afford to have a cell phone most of the time so payphones would be convenient for me.

Does anyone else miss payphones?

I miss them bc they were convenient when you didn't have a cell phone. Nowadays I have one but not everyone can afford one.

if i had money for every time someone at the bus stop asked me to use my phone, I'd be pretty well off.

I never really used one. I remember the trouble my dad had trying to use one at the Atlanta airport when we got stuck there coming back from Orlando back in 2005...

Used one once at my high school (~2008/2009)...in retrospect, I am surprised they had one. Anyways, I had to use it because my cellphone decided to die on me during the school day. Helped me call my mom to pick me up after choral practice. So I am grateful it was there. Unfortunately, The school decided to bin it the summer before my senior year.

I think they are cool and it's very uncommon to see them. It's also cool tech before the rise of cellphones.

Yeah, I'd rather spend a few coins using a payphone especially when I need to call someone at home or contact the store's landline. It costs a lot using a cellphone, at least from where I live.

Oh you mean like phone booths? Yeah I miss them.. they are cool :( We used to have this old orange thing on display at my old high school and honestly if I had room back then I'd totally bought it.

... payphones in 2013? ok

ive never used one. and w mobile phones i dont see a point in using or missing payphones, like, there are way better alternatives....

I mean my town tends to be a few years late to trends so maybe we are also a few years late to moving out obsolete technology

Maybe I should have just called this thread "poor people problems" because my main reason for missing them is that I'm too poor for a mobile phone

No, they were terrible and you could barely use them. I think we still have one in our city, but honestly you're better off just going into any public building/shop and asking them to help you out. The same thing was true back then, but I guess you felt more independent using one.

Why are people so negative and just "lol obsolete ****"? I consider them cool and would totally wish more were around if not for use just for display and nostalgia. And yeah I can imagine people here would rather use one more anon than just ask for a phone n stuff.

Used to love looking for change in payphones
I made loads of money
