does your island have a "narrative"/story behind it?

as the title says! do you have a story about your island? certain roles certain npcs or villagers fulfill in the narrative? secondary characters who do the same? relationships between villagers? lately i've been using acnh as a very very low-key worldbuilding exercise, so i'm curious if anyone else does the same.

i'm worried that this might be a little bit of an unclear question, so for clarity i'll explain mine a little: my island, vagary, is a fairycore-themed island that within the story is unchartable, as in you can't find it on a map and you can't arrive at it intentionally. the only way to come across it is to be explicitly invited or to accidentally stumble across it. my resident representative is a fictionalized, silly self-insert who is possibly a fey creature and also has weird powers like controlling time (i time travel a lot, lol) or molding the earth to their whims. today i finally made a second character on my island to further the "narrative": his name is cedar, he's now-formerly a research assistant to a professor in a faraway place, and he washed up on the island, which he's found to be a bizarre sort of fairy world that is totally alien to him. the vague story i'm crafting here is that he anchors himself to reality in this bizarre foreign land by entrenching himself in researching the island and its flora and fauna and sort of being blathers' assistant. not 100% sure what the narrative behind most of my villagers is yet, but you kind of get the idea, probably.

mine is very much a work in progress, and it's also very much a silly and just-for-fun thing that mostly exists within my own head, but i've always been this type of dweeb at heart and so this kind of thing appeals to me a lot.

anyway, share yours if you've got any!

I have a whole bunch of lore for my main island, Evwirt.

Evwirt is an odd forest that, like your island, cannot be found on a map. People tend to stumble upon it, getting lost in the thick, confusing woodland (the main reason why I can never have a 5 star island lol). My island rep was one such person to be entrapped by Evwirt.

However, some individuals have taken over a small area detached from the main forest, which is a small oasis from all the odd happenings of the deeper woods.

It’s inhabited by a lot of...interesting...characters, including a gnome king, a group of gardening dinosaurs and a witch. While the gnome king and dinos are friendly enough, the witch is up to no good.

This leads us to my villager set. If you’ve seen me around a lot, you’ll know that Evwirt is an all-deer island. This is because of the witch cursing those who come upon her and anger her (often for VERY petty reasons). You’ll even see in my dream that my rep has started to be affected by the curse. I haven’t come up with specific backstories for the villagers as of yet, but just know that their interiors give a hint to their pasts.

Yeah no kidding...when I dreamt onto your island I couldn't find the witch anywhere. I couldn't understand why I couldn't find her...and then when I gave up and began heading back to the plaza she appeared out of nowhere and freaked me out. She's dressed very appropriately lol

I have started to include a story in my island journal (not sure yet if that was a good idea) and I did give my villagers and former villagers roles. Atm, my journal is on hold since I’m waiting for a friend to finish an art piece that I plan on putting in my next entry’s mini project.

Atm, this entry explains the roles that I have assigned my villagers and who they are based on.

My island originally was going to be dedicated to Dragon Age and so I was wearing my DAI custom design as well as some of Kirkwall Crossing’s designs on Tumblr for a good portion of the time I spent on my island. My story starts off with my rep being the Inquisitor. Since I later change her gender to male so I can wear the Mihawk custom design I downloaded, I will need to think of a reason for identity change. What I’m considering is making my story kinda a spin off of a mixture of stuff Dragon Age/One Piece. So the Inquisitor could end up being the end game boss like Rudy had said something about in a conversation early on, rather than a hero. Maybe the Inquisitor ends up being defeated and someone else is found (without me deleting the character) and assigned the position as rep of my island.

The art that I am having commissioned is Punchy wearing Red Haired shanks clothes and with his scar. He will be known as Red Hairless Shanks and one of the pirate emperors in my AC universe/world. Since my friend made adjustments like making the ship look like a miniature going merry instead of the red force, the One Piece related part of the story will be an alternate story as opposed to being completely a reenactment of Eiichiro Oda’s story. Not sure where i’m going with this, but when she showed me what she has so far, I saw so much potential in adding some twists to my story plans. 🤩 (I did want to be surprised, but I respect her decision to show me and ask if it was okay).

Mine doesn't in a storytelling sense... but for the longest time I did dedicate a lot of areas of my island to different groups of mini-villagers like gnomes and snapping turtles (and their mom the godzilla statue). As my island progressed, I made sure to keep expanding on their territories, so a lot of my friends who visited since the early days got a kick out of seeing their areas develop. But beyond that I don't really have a story in mind. I also sadly got rid of some of these villages to make space for other projects... but now I kind of want to fit them back in somehow. I've drawn little backstories for my villagers based on conversations I've heard from them though, which I post about in my island journal.

My island is cozy and wholesome on the surface, but my representative avatar snatches and “kills” villagers in her basement who are moving away. Then gives the meat to my second avatar (who stores them in a freezer in her basement), who cooks them into steaks or whatnot to serve in her restaurant. It’s basic, not something that jumps out at you, but it’s a contrast to an otherwise cute/peaceful aesthetic. I’ve always loved cute and creepy stuff, and a mix of the two is a dream.

Nothing too deep.

I don't even know how to start, lol. My island representative is a pirate boss who is transforming the island into a pirate's or bad guy playground. At the same time, she spreads out misleading ads or postcards of her island showcasing it as a dreamy tropical vacation getaway for tourists. Like so:
Postcard2.png

She makes up rules on the spot which puts tourists at a high risk of being sold off or stripped of all their belongings. The villagers are part of her pirate crew or just island inhabitants that are neutral to the evils committed on the island.

That's the gist of it.

I named my island after a real one, so I just pretend the story continues with Nook and us moving in. :D

I have quite a lot of lore behind my island but wont go too into detail lol. It mostly consists of Watercolor, a seemingly quaint urban english countryside, is getting swarmed by hunters lead by Diana (since shes based off the goddess of hunt). Im trying to incorporate more horror elements in lately but its hard to do when your pattern space is already filled and the game doesnt have much to work with in terms of weapons lol. also the story doesnt really make much sense unless everyone is in their gjinka form, unless well cannibalism

For sure!
My island was definitely originally supposed to be very zen and disconnected from the world, with natural pathways and overgrown things everywhere, a place far, far away from anything with any sort of modernity to it. At this time, Kabuki and Dobie were the only two residents who are still there to this day! When things started changing and more and more villagers arrived, changing the aesthetic and direction of the island, they became very annoyed and rejected all of their efforts to advance the island in any way, but eventually they were outnumbered and it was no loner up to them. Slowly but surely Beau, Fauna, Stitches, Marshal, Skye, Audie, Kiki and Zucker were able to shift the whole island, keeping some of it's original charm, whilst updating and sprucing up the place, adding some more urban vibes to it, while still keeping Dobie and Kabuki's love for everything in Japanese Culture still very much apart of the island.

When Kabuki and Dobie found out they they still kept a large amount of what they fell in love with in the first place when they arrived, they warmed right up to the other villagers and were more open to their new way of life. While they're still not 100% on board with all the new developments they still have their own little place, where its everything they love, remaining in contact and not disconnected from the rest of the island :,)

Yeah, something vague about how none of it's real and it's all a dream. I'm sure it'd be fun to think about it more. Unfortunately though, my island is currently almost entirely made up of empty land with literally no trees or water or anything anywhere and it has been this way since April. I'm pretty lazy lol

My whole island is one huge story! I haven't created a dream address for it yet because I'm such as completionist hehe. Anyway...what I can give without any spoilers to the main story is that the island's snapping turtles are sentient. Even more so than the villagers. You can see them perform activities like fishing and roasting marshmellows. They are also the island's surveillance and security force. Many are around the island on their outposts and will also attack when necessary so visitors need to respect the island and not get into mischief.

I feel like with the island name "Narnia" I can't not have at least some story behind it. But while I definitely have a handful of references scattered around the island, it never was intended to be entirely based on the books and it isn't.

I've made up some of my own narratives over the months, for example the house of second character (named Lucy after the character in the books) turned into a space center over time (which is definitely not in the books) and now my main character is a beginning astronaut. Despite being mostly woodsy, he technology on my island is pretty advanced, I suppose.

Island name: Sauce

Here on sauce... we are a little suburban cutsey little island but one thing we all have in common is our shared love for sauce. Any type of sauce, mind you. You could call us the sauce 'cult'.

Me, the rep, aka the queen, the holy sauce holder, and my minions bring me sauce as an offering for friendship and love. In turn for their delicious and sometimes nutritious sauce, I give them homes, clothing, and what they love most: Some special Sheep Sauce in return. (Willow refused to eat the Sheep Sauce for a while. Eventually was persuaded when I told her that I didn't use real Sheep in it.)

Every Saturday night we meet at my house and cook sauce and eat sauce together. Sometimes Wolfgang (who loves to sometimes cook things besides sauce) will bring pasta or cheese or donuts that we can dip in our sauce, and honestly? SO. GOOD.

Our favorite types of sauce include: Sheep Sauce (duh. it has a delish furry texture and a warm tummy feeling. if you eat enough, you might fall right into a deep, peaceful slumber!) Mayonnaise (goes good on donuts) and Syrup (so sweet.... Beau likes to eat it for breakfast).

We don't care about much else on Sauce tbh. Just each other, Bells, and s a u c e .

We love each other here on Sauce. We are all friends, some of us have even closer-than-friends relationships (Flo and Rory are preparing for a wedding).

Yep. Livin' the dream tbh.

Mine has a loose theme that we're all part of Prince Colton's royal court. I'm a courtier and pirate-trader. I tried having a more rigorous theme and backstory but got bored and wasn't able to maintain it.

My town isn't complete yet, but I'm planning on having a theme to my island. My town is based on a old, rusty maritime town that's seen better days. It used to be a big shipping and fishing hub, but the ships stop being built and the fish aren't biting as much as they used to. To generate revenue and revitalize the island, the villager leaders invited a marine biology lab (The Institute) to use the island as their headquarters, with the free use of the land to conduct their experiments. Little do the islanders know that The Institute has been experimenting with unethical and cruel methods on the local sea life and as consequence, bringing the wrath of the sea to their coast. And slowly, the ocean is claiming them for their transgressions...

nope, i never did this in any of the games. it's a cute idea though!
