I'm looking for suggestions on a DVR that I can get at a budget for a one-time price and no monthly charges. I tried looking it up online but the information I found is very confusing.

I don't think I will need a recorder with tons of storage space as it seems my family will be using it fairly sparingly for very specific purposes.

I don't think you can get something like that. Not super cheap anyway. If you want something like that without having to pay a monthly fee, it's apparently top dollar. I just looked it up online and there is Tivo with a lifetime sub. Anyway if you want it, you can have it, but you gotta pay a lot.

If you want cheap, then you can also use a vcr with a vhs to tape your schedule recordings lol. Or you could probably figure out a way to hook up your computer to your TV to record at certain times. I didn't look that option up, but there's probably a work around there somewhere.

You mean the Tivo Bolt Vox correct? That's what I found in my searching
