Events & Collectibles General Discussion

The market has been kind of slumped lately and there seems to be far less TBT in circulation which is why a lot of prices have dropped (just my hypothesis on the 2nd part). Due to that, auctions might not be worthwhile unless you are auctioning something everyone wants.
Even if I only get very few bidders and low bids, an auction is still a success when someone bids for my collectibles.

As for the marketplace slowing down, it's not just the low activity during the release between two Animal Crossing games. When everyone wants one collectible and nobody wants another collectible, it's not a good sign. For high-demand collectibles, those who own them refuse to sell their collectibles, no matter how much others are going to offer. Even if the buyer is willing to offer a lot. Sometimes, the owner would be willing to sell, but those who want it can't afford it at the price they're offering, while those who can afford it don't want it, either because they are saving up for another collectible, or don't want to part with their Bells. For low-demand collectibles, they aren't going to sell no matter how low the prices are. And in cases where they spent more than how much others are willing to sell, they wouldn't sell.

You don't have to share your collectibles with others. And you don't have to buy others' collectibles. The problem is that when everyone is on that boat, the marketplace won't make much progress. Even the release of ACNH didn't change much. Yeah, it did bring in a spike in activity, but trends still stayed the same.

I think I know why the Christmas collectibles are so cheap. It’s because I, your resident apple, set the price of them years ago - a very low price that is. Mainly because the item it was based on was one of those lost items from ACNL, which I didn’t find much value.

What do you think of my Christmas-themed sidebar? This is going to be my sidebar for the Christmas season. I do need help on adding messages, but do you like it?

Christmas is so cheap because there are so many of them and often people like to share the spirit of Christmas and just give them away, sell at a very very very low price, or do straight trades for other Christmas collectibles.
I think the most expensive Christmas collectibles are candy and snow bunny.

I'm not bothered by it. It gives new users a chance to actually have something unless a user was kind enough to gift them some other one.

Wanna know what other collectible, I believe lost demand? Pokéballs. Maybe they’re still popular today, but not at the prices sellers are asking for. They used to be one of the most coveted collectibles. Now they’re not as popular as they used to be.

yule log is pretty pricey too. candy though is more specifically only the christmas gold. the others are much more on the cheap end, iirc

and though they don't share the winter background, the aurora sky and snowflake glow wand are technically christmas collectibles too, per their event period releases

which I think sums up about all the ones with good value

Honestly Pokéball was like my #1 favorite collectible back in the day, but it’s just such an older collectible now that it’s started to look outdated next to all the shiny new ones. And it doesn’t match anything with its plain grey background, not even the other 2 Pokéball collectibles 😵‍💫 I still like it but I would loooove if it got a revamp.

To be honest, I’ve been off this site for so long that I don’t even know the collectible demand anymore. It used to be that people only wanted the rarer collectibles (I’m not even referring to pinwheels or white feathers, but more like chocolate cakes, apples, and peaches). Now they’re more interested into lineup design and only want certain collectibles.

no, most christmas collectibles are just way too oversaturated in people's inventories to have any value
It's just like Neopets with freebies that can be easy to come across via dailies, nobody really wants them so they sell them at a low price. However, if there are items that are considered to be rare yet are still in the daily item roulette, they sell them at a high price, but it can still be seen as cheap.

The same can be said for here, the more rare they are the more priceless they become, it's common sense ya see?

My theory is that there's an overabundance of collectibles on the site, what else do you do to flex on the many items? Have a thematic lineup of course. There's a reason why so many users want multiple of the same item or more different items in the specific collectible category, perhaps they want to show off their pizzazz of the most beautiful lineup they could think of to make others jealous and want to think of something better per se.

Gosh, who knew people on TBT could turn collectibles into a competitive lineup game...

There is no best lineup on this site. We all got some good ones, like some showing all their awards, some sharing the rarest of collectibles, some having ten of the same collectible, some having ten of the same kind of item, some having ten of the same color, and some having rainbow coordinations. As for me, my “assorted” collectible sidebar is what fits the bill. So maybe the collectible craze has been solved. The only problem left is that we should customize our collectible orders so we don’t have to focus on date trading (and so I don’t have to keep my collectibles hidden).

If I were to get competitive about collectibles, I’ll make my own collectibles compete against each other. See the chocolate cake collectible beat the snowflake glow wand in a game of chess. I give my collectibles feelings too.

I'm actually very curious on this specific stance of yours on collectibles :0

I always like to give my items feelings, including virtual items.

But if you want to know how I like my sidebar, I prefer to have no more than one collectible per category. Like I wouldn’t have both an apple and peach in my sidebar, or both a green balloon and red balloon, but I can have both an apple and a green balloon.

I mean it's only competitive if you make it competitive. People like myself and most others who are active in the collectible scene just enjoy accomplishing pretty lineups and getting collectibles that fancy their style. Whether that's rare collectibles, collectibles with a specific colour/theme or just collectibles that one finds visually appealing in general, I'm sure most people are just in it to accomplish a goal rather then competing to have the most sought after collectibles or smth.

Ah I see, I just figured you guys were doing it for jealousy. Seems you just like the artistic style of how you show them off.

I'm thinking of redoing my current lineup by replacing the patches with more plushies that fit their theme, an invader which I already have, a pinky/goomba for my right side that has a date before the tetris collectibles got distributed, and maybe the beach collectibles for something else that fit the theming to it. I'll think on that last part.

This.
We need this. I feel like some collectibles alot of people don't want simply because of the date. Balloons I feel are a good example. Many people would want them in the top row because of their sky background, if they are wanting them showed case with other collectibles that launched since.
Some collectibles need a re- release so they can be showed on either end of a line.
I hope one day we can have the feature to drag and place, or have them appear in the order you activate the collectible.
Even if it is a feature you have to buy with bells, alot of bells..
I just hope the bells spent go back to the community though, through a raffle or something.

but all my collectibles are active...
My idea of having collectibles appear in the order you activate them would be like:
if you had a 2021 collectible and you activate it before activating a 2014, then the line should be:
2014 on the left and 2021 on the right.

The order of activation would override the collectible's birthdate. It is just one idea on by passing dates.

I'm at a loss. Is this a possibility can actually be done? I'm not sure if other forum sites prioritize in collectibles but if they did they had to have found a way on sorting your collectibles in any order you desire.

Possible or not, there must be a reason the staff has been ignoring this idea for years.

If possible though, how I think it'll work is a separate page that allows you to use a base for your next collectible lineup and you use collectibles that you already own in any position you want. Say if I wanted a collectible that you can no longer obtain (Like the 10 Year Anniversary collectible) in the top middle and have say, Camp TBT 2023 collectibles surrounding the top position of where the 10 Year Anniversary collectible stays in the top middle, then it will let you do that and vice versa. Giving tons more collectible lineup ideas that could be impossible otherwise! You could also save up to 10 presets. Course that's just my interpretation anyway.

(Take notes staff, I'm giving you ideas that can help stop the date trading threads)
