Events & Collectibles General Discussion

Even if TBT Premium becomes a thing, they still won’t allow real-life transactions for in-game items or TBT items. That shouldn’t be allowed anywhere, whether it’s on this site or off this site.

people spending rlc on in-game stuffs is just funny to me, with how hax it all is

like if I was to go that route, I'd rather just pay to have the tools myself

Tbt premium would have at least one perk for tbt items, which has ties to Nintendo ips. However, those sprites are made by belltree themselves.
The issue comes down to profit off of Nintendo ips, or if money was a donation, like fan games I've seen that made all sprites themselves and money for perks was labeled a donation. Also depends on the judge.

I can't remember, but didn't Serebii consider a premium sub thing at one point and decided against for similar concerns? I know they focus heavily on ad revenue.

If this site or any other large Nintendo fansite gets slapped with a DMCA takedown, I’m going to Fox News or New York Times to report Nintendo’s abuse of copyright protection. TBT isn’t making money off of Nintendo’s content. They’re doing it for the site. I’d do everything to protect this site.

Oh absolutely.

My comments are just thoughts about risks about the topic since Nintendo is the way it is.
They are crazy on YouTube all the time and YouTube often lets them have what they want even if the YouTube terms and conditions weren't exactly broke. National laws from different countries also greatly play a role in stuff like this. Sometimes YouTubers have to block certain nations to keep their video from being taken?? Not sure how that works, but something I heard.

The difference between here and YouTube is that they’ve been attacking individual videos users (including the most popular ones), and if they’re targeting websites, they’re only targeting those who are sharing entire games for free. But this site is using graphics, not full games, and this site is an entire community, not an individual user. They would’ve done worse if this site went down.

Well the YouTube videos, though different, were an issue because of the audience being located in various Nations with different laws that Nintendo could reach through.

The games I mentioned weren't Nintendo games, nor used their assets. They were games that had graphics made by the devs of ips. And there are communities with them (forum sites). They won cuz the judge ruled in their favor cuz they had no Nintendo assets and the only money involved was donations and the devs would give a gift box as a thank you (no subscriptions).

It's just something to tread very carefully. It wouldn't hurt for large forum owners that focus on nintendo to talk to other large forum owners that also focus on Nintendo, and lawyers, about real life currency for site support for insight and considerations.

Yeah, I agree. Having some sort of ‘premium’ subscription model is far too risky for something that matters little in the grand scheme of things. Especially since this board is nearly 19 years old. If it were to be forced to shut down, a lot of history would be lost to time. I would never support the idea of real world currency being used to buy perks. I also fear such a thing would divide TBT into ‘social classes’, which would be devastating for an otherwise united community.

I haven't read the previous comments in this thread because I'm lazy and just generally don't have time for it/don't care, but I agree. Adding ANY real life money for things on TBT would definitely cause divisions within the community itself. Frankly, I'd probably leave if that happened.

I do wonder if a donation button would work, and as a thank you, you can edit the date to one collectible. (Have to be locked to the account though)
Or get a special backdrop for a limited time.
Or get one collectible blind box that would have that day's date. The blind box may cause waves in the collectible market though..
Whatever the perk, it would still have to technically be achievable without irlc, I believe. (lawyer would be helpful about that) It could have a very high, insane, bell cost to counter. Or available to all through a raffle in practically every event.

But tbt could do what Serebii does and focus heavily on ads for support. I feel the ads aren't super terrible on there. They are generally banners and side things that are pretty small, but they get alot of eyes. The ads basically are things you've looked at on other sites like x from Amazon or Etsy.

Other thoughts, blind boxes could always exclude certian collectibles.. like Pikachu Egg or Mint and the blind pack variety could change every now and then to encourage redonating. It allows a little more control of numbers and dates.

I don't know about all of that, but TBT does have a means of accepting donations already... through Ko-Fi. You may already know this, but just thought I'd mention it.

I'm not really even sure that the site needs more donations beyond that. Especially considering that didn't even used to exist before. But the staff would know better than me.

Just going over how much collectibles changed over time:

From 2015, right around the time of the TBT Fire Festival (*plays Bolero of Fire*):
  • The top tier collectibles were the white, pink, and purple feathers, yellow letter, Pokéball, and pinwheel. Party poppers started to gain popularity at this time.
  • However, toy hammers, apples, peaches, and chocolate cakes were the collectibles with the highest demand. We even had a toy hammer raffle, as apples were once made unique to prevent hoarding when restocks happened.
  • On the other end of the spectrum, cakes, pears, oranges, red candies, and yellow candies were among the most worthless collectibles. The cyan letter and regular Easter Egg didn’t fare well either.
  • Blue was the most popular color.
From 2023, right after Space Camp TBT ended:
  • The most popular collectibles were glow wands, star fragments, plushies, and some eggs, not just because of rarity, but also because of aesthetics. Pinwheels and weird dolls earn points due to rarity.
  • While some basic shop collectibles (like apples and chocolate cakes) were better than others, all basic shop collectibles were no longer sought after how common they have gotten.
  • The most popular backgrounds for collectibles were the nighttime sky and daytime sky. The least popular backgrounds for collectibles don’t have too many collectibles sharing the same background.
  • Pink was the most popular color.
That’s how much they changed over time.

when u play around and find out alien plushie goes really well with the sweetheart egg and now u want a bunch of both

Just one question. Why doesn’t anybody want balloon collectibles anymore? They were having a hard time selling, now I can’t even give them away.

We've just finished one big event in Camp Bell Tree and are headed toward another one next month with Halloween. Funds may be short for some, shorter than they already were, and some might be saving up for Halloween and Christmas.

That aside, personal preference is a factor as well, and as for your Orange Balloon giveaway, it's pretty short for a giveaway. People usually leave giveaways open for days or weeks for people to accumulate entries, whereas your Orange Balloon giveaway was opened today and ends tonight. There are less active users nowadays, so patience is important, especially with that song writing requirement.

I’ll probably wait then if nobody enters today. It could also be because the gimmick behind it (aka expecting people to write parodies) might turn it off.

I’m still going to give away the orange balloon due to a generous donation to help me buy another collectible.

Well in my eyes, the collectible seems rather old to be wanted. Plus it doesn't really give off that "Gleam" to your lineups.

Let's not forget that what we have to do in order to receive an entry to your giveaway is WAY too repetitive! Most people I see when they do raffle-like giveaways is think of a short, easy and obvious way to get people to enter. There's one user who tells us to ask what's our favorite mythical creature is, and because there's so many it's bound to have many participants.

So now that I got 20 “assorted” collectibles and 10 Christmas collectibles, what collectible is next on my wishlist?

Nah, I’m more interested into having more TBT Bells. I hope to get back up to 10k TBT. Galaxy Egg or Disco Ball Egg? I already have a Pikachu egg. Flower Glow Wand or Star Glow Wand? I have a Snowflake wand. Fair Pinwheel? I’d sell instead of keep. So there’s really no other collectibles I want, not right now at least.
