Events & Collectibles General Discussion

If I could organize my collectibles in any order, I’ll at least have the apple, chocolate cake, Tetris Grid, snowflake wand, and green balloon all in one row, and any other collectible I spotlight will be in the other row.

Same collectibles as my sidebar, but different order.

I'm at a loss. Is this a possibility can actually be done? I'm not sure if other forum sites prioritize in collectibles but if they did they had to have found a way on sorting your collectibles in any order you desire.

Possible or not, there must be a reason the staff has been ignoring this idea for years.

If possible though, how I think it'll work is a separate page that allows you to use a base for your next collectible lineup and you use collectibles that you already own in any position you want. Say if I wanted a collectible that you can no longer obtain (Like the 10 Year Anniversary collectible) in the top middle and have say, Camp TBT 2023 collectibles surrounding the top position of where the 10 Year Anniversary collectible stays in the top middle, then it will let you do that and vice versa. Giving tons more collectible lineup ideas that could be impossible otherwise! You could also save up to 10 presets. Course that's just my interpretation anyway.

(Take notes staff, I'm giving you ideas that can help stop the date trading threads)
I assume they haven't changed it because they may view the dates as a way to encourage or boost the market, which I can agree to an extent... some people tag a higher price on a collectible with a rare date, or people trade for certian dates. I am not sure how many people actually give or earn tbt for that.. but I often offer a little something for date trading.
But! I feel we are coming to a place where that viewpoint of it encouraging or boosting the collectible market isn't as... viewable.
Impo of course.

I’m guessing that the reason why we can’t organize our collectibles in any order we like is because of software limitations in web design or something. I haven’t run a forum, so I don’t know how it works.

Maybe you're right, but I always figured the price would stay the same no matter what collectible has been reissued, then again this is me who hasn't kept track of the collectible economy thingamajig as I never really cared much on lineups. I mean, I still do, it's the lack of artistic inspiration holding me back.

That's something I theorize on why they can't do it either. This is a possibility on why they reissue collectibles to conquer this issue, but it doesn't really work as well with there being new collectibles every day and collectibles that would look good if they were paired with an old collectible of the same theming or color scheme, but in order for that to happen you'd have to lessen your collectibles which won't make your lineups very pretty.

If software limitations is why they can’t implement this feature, they may try to adjust the purchase date of a collectible, just like how you can adjust the date of a published blog entry to an earlier date. Oblivia was able to add a message to my chocolate cake collectible (albeit a troll one) without having me to send the collectible to her and have her resend it with message. If the admins can add/change messages of collectibles like that, they might change the purchase date or time. But they’ll probably have to do it to only one user a day so they can focus on other important duties.

Yeah I've seen people turn down a normal price offer because they got the collectible via a raffle or they place a higher price on it because if the date. The rare date simply allowed for special line ups.

Maybe the software doesn't allow it. Idk. Staff are able to edit dates on collectibles and it changes the order so maybe there is a way change it for the whole site. Maybe there is a way to sell and apply a date edit item? That would be tedious for a user though.

May sound like a good idea, perhaps they could also add the original date of said collectible you asked them to change the date of.

Or instead of being a time waster to the admins, you can do it. but at the cost of Bell Tree Bells.

As this discussion of rearranging collectibles regardless of timestamps is concerned, it's been a long desired feature among the community so we're just kind of treading old ground here.

As Jeremy put it in a petition thread for this cause back in 2019:

As we have mentioned in the past, we have considered collectible reordering for some sort of premium feature to offer in the future. I tested a reordering of Oblivia's lineup 2 - 3 years ago. There are many features and ideas we have considered or may already have in the works. However, implementing certain features on the forum is more complicated than a simple database tweak. One example of how this particular feature would be more complicated than it may seem to be at first is to understand how the collectibles are actually ordered in each post. They're not actually directly ordered by date, which you can see from the date of my rotten turnip. All of this to say, it will probably be a feature someday™.

So it does seem to be a bit more complicated on the technical side. Would it be cool to see eventually? Yeah. But I'm not getting my hopes up until it maybe happens someday.

But hey, Jeremy is suggesting having this in the future so there's a chance, but as a paywall with RLC. They have to work it out without any issues whatsoever and have it out. I won't be able to buy the premium, but at least it'll exist.

I’d love to revisit a topic like this. I am 100% willing to pay rlc for some new exciting features

Things have actually changed a little bit since moving to XenForo and they are now ordered by date. They are a little bit easier to move around now, which is why we occasionally do it for event rewards. However, it's still handled in the backend and there's no user interface to change them. Either way, the reason it's not a feature is not only because of technical limitations but also because date trading is a big part of TBT's collectible economy. Despite nothing happening in four years, it's something that would likely be tied to some sort of "TBT premium" as I mentioned in that post. The reordering would also be locked to your account in order to prevent people from reselling new dates for bells. This is an improvement from the 2019 idea, which was to use a premium currency to pay to move one collectible at a time. (If TBT premium does become a thing, I guarantee it will have better perks than other forums that are already doing it.)

While this is unrelated to collectibles, I remember hearing back then saying that you could have your own customizable character to use around the forums. THAT could also be use as a premium feature as well, by paying either TBT or RLC do dress them up and add foliage or furniture if you make the background indoors or outdoors.

(I'm not too sure if they should add microtransactions and some sort of lootbox to the forums for an idea of this premium feature. I doubt they will and totally make that side of the premium feature totally free.)

Thanks for the clarification! :)

We did own a system for vBulletin to do this, but the project went nowhere and we've had no plans to bring it back over all these years (this was probably a decade ago). It's still a fun idea, but I doubt it would be worth the effort to implement.

The 2019 idea for collectible reordering was closer to microtransactions, but at the moment, I personally prefer a monthly subscription model similar to Patreon (which seems to be what other forums do). This is not something we are currently working on and nothing is official at the moment, but we've had some ideas over the last few years and progress can be slow. So eventually...

Much appreciated. I'm happy to see the new stuff you bring to the table.

As for the custom character thing I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, I guess the closest thing we have to it now is adding our custom characters over from New Horizons in the banner.
A cool idea I could see from this is having an option to allow for a picture of your island rep in your "About" page. That way, people will know what your rep could look like without having to resort to art, showing them in your avatar/signature or the aforementioned banner.

honestly, one thing I've always been curious about: if this was to in theory happen, do you think you'd let all collectibles be reordered however a user desired, or would certain ones (ex: event rewards) probably still be locked in place?

I personally would pay an obscene amount of my adult money for TBT Premium, even just for the collectible order swapping alone. I have a feeling the staff would become overnight millionaires if this website became monetary in some regards.

does nintendo have pinkertons for hire? because I'd kinda worry something such as this would have them be sent off, if so

though even just their regular legal team could spell trouble, if nintendo feels their ip is being profited on without their permission way too much here

I assumed that was why there wasn't some sort of money thing on this site for a sub or whatever.

I have seen some fan made games that made all sprites themselves get away with having a loot box of perks with it being labeled as a gift for donating to the devs. Not sure a monthly sub can... it's gray area as this site is made and ran by the owner and there's more than just Nintendo stuff here. It's a site for fans of games, but particularly animal crossing.
