So, the game gave me Klaus and I was SO annoyed! I hated the way he looks and I heard a youtuber say that he uses his toilet in front of you, which is just NOT appealing to me at ALL! I planned to get rid of him ASAP. However... a little time goes by and he is now one of my favorite villagers and my storage is packed with white and grey clothing items that I can gift him (alas, I can buy many items from Able Sisters but only allowed to gift once per day, thus the stockpile). Initially I found his appearance off-putting, but he is actually kind of cute when he isn't scowling. Whenever he talks to you, his scowl goes away and he just has a cute bear face. It gives the vibe of, "I'm scowling most of the time, but when I see you, I'm much happier." Who wouldn't find that endearing? And, I find his dialogue to be pleasant for the most part as well. I also have Pietro (another smug) and I love him too. Both are keepers for me!

Do you have a similar story about a villager you thought you were going to hate but ended up in love with? TIA for sharing! :giggle:

So at first I didn't like Sherb. I only got him because at the time, he and the other 8 new characters didn't have amiibos. So I thought that I would just get him in town, get his poster into my catalog, and then move him out at first chance. That was like, two years ago. Sherb is still here. He asks to move and I just can't let him go. I like him too much. I've got plenty of his pics now too.😅

Not a particular villager comes to mind, but if NPC’s count, I’ll have to say that Blathers really grew on me. I used to despise him for talking way too much that I’d refuse to donate anything to him out of spite. He grew on me when I walked into the museum at around 3:00 AM and he was wide awake. I’m a night owl, so I thought it was nice to see.

Off topic, but I believe I encountered a glitch on my game. Goldie was walking around at that same time in her home with pajamas on. She was supposed to be asleep at that time being a normal villager, but she was awake and walking around in her home. I thought it was amusing.

Yeah I used to hate Marshal back in New Leaf, I can't really say why? Maybe the hate he got from so much people rubbed off on me, but I absolutely love him now. ALSO Rodney! I used to think he was ugly but now? he's so stinkin adorable to me

6 year old me hated Diva in New Leaf but then I decided to use her as my purple villager in my town of Rainbow... TALK ABOUT ATTITUDE CHANGE.

Truffles used to be my least favorite villager since City Folk but the more I look at her I’m like dang she actually is adorable. I love her mean resting face even though she’s a peppy.

I got Puddles as one of my initial villagers, and I did not think I would ever like a pink, girly-girl peppy frog. However, she is so cute and animated that she slowly endeared herself to me, and I would not give her up for the life of me. I don’t think my island would have the same charm without her.

i’m typically not one to hate villagers, but i despised pietro from the first moment i saw him in new leaf. my hatred ran so deep that i swore to delete my town immediately if he were to ever move in lol.

i still wasn’t a fan of him when new horizons came out, but my hatred had simmered down to a... mellow dislike lmao. however, he suddenly began to grow on me early last year, and after having him on my island for a while, he’s now a villager that i like a lot! he even taught me the last reaction that i needed, so he’s special to me because of that as well. :’)

Hazel back in New Leaf. I just came back from a hiatus and she had moved in. Saw her home/name on my map and thought wonder who that is. At first, I was put off, but she grew on me really fast. Plus her home was awesome. She had patchwork furniture, a giant teddy bear, and K.K. Disco playing. Never heard that song until I visited her home and had to request K.K. to play it the next time I played on a Saturday night.

My bestie Marshal. Lolll. He was new in New Leaf and plotted his house exactly beside my house where I was planning to put a yard (you can’t choose villagers and the plots to place houses back in the day) so when I saw the sign sold to Marshal I was determined to hate him. Since he was new in NL I had zero idea what a cutie he was. When he moved in, I was floored because he was so adorable. Since he lived so close to me it became a habit to look for him first thing everytime I log into my game until we became besties. Not to mention he started telling other players in my town that I’m his bestie and I’m his favorite. 🥺 Since then I can’t play AC without him around. So I always have to have him with me. Also, he’s the only one allowed to live near my residence since I prefer to live a bit further away from my villagers. Moreover, this all happened before Marshal became super popular. So I know a lot of people judge Marshal lovers for being basic but well, I couldn’t care less because that little marshmallow fluff and I have a lot of history. 😅

Not really in this game, but Jambette unexpectedly moved into my main New Leaf town years back and decimated a patch of purple hybrid roses that I was growing by slapping down her house's plot right on top of them. I was annoyed not only because of the flowers but because I wanted a different villager. As I spent time with her I warmed up, came to appreciate her design, and came to genuinely like her. I still had her move out when her time came because she didn't fit my horror-themed town at all, but I didn't regret having her in the town for the time she was there. Some of the purple roses survived the slaughter and it was just a matter of time for them to reproduce more, so in the end it was a minor inconvenience that didn't really have any lasting effects. I wouldn't say I love her since there are a bunch of other villagers I like better and rather have in my games, but yeah.

Glad you came around on Klaus! I love his Ancient Roman design with the toga and gladiator sandals. I'm also fond of his face since his eyes are distinct among the rest of the bears, not too cartoony. I could do without the circle cheeks that he and some other villagers have, but otherwise I'm fond of him. He might have a case of resting bear face, but I like it personally.

He's one of the residents on my New Horizons island and I'm glad that we're now able to redesign our residents' homes; I appreciate what they were going for the the Roman bath house, but yeah, no, would rather give him something fancier and more stately.

My first AC game was new leaf and when I started my town I had rasher and he lived in like the very bottom right corner of the map far away from every other house and across the river and at first I didn't like him because he was kinda mean and scary looking and he lived far away like a town outcast. I usually played later at night and he would often be right outside my house just standing around which made me so uncomfortable I wrote him a letter that said something like "dear rasher stop skulking around my house at night its freaky get out of my town" (which was apparently the first letter I sent him so he liked to show it off sometimes lol) but he eventually grew on me and now he's my favorite villager.

In New Horizons, it was Raymond. I was casually villager hunting before the series 5 amiibos came out, and stumbled upon the infamous cat villager in a rainy mystery island as soon as I started villager hunting again after a break. Because of his popularity at the time, I thought I'd take him just to get his photo, and to sell him off one day. I was determined not to like villagers simply because they were "popular" or "top tier". But a year or so later, he is still on my main island, and is now a lifer on Disnytopia. I have grown to love him, and even though I have his amiibo now, I can't foresee myself ever letting him go.

And for New Leaf, it was Hugh. I was so annoyed when he moved right next to my house, so every time I logged on, he was there creeping around my yard. But as the days passed, I started to look forward to talking with him first. I was truly bummed when he decided to move out on his own, and now the clear space of land next to my house seems lonely without him. 😥

I didn't get the hype around Marshal and found seeing him on everyone's islands annoying... fast forward a couple of months later and guess who ends up buying his amiibo and inviting him to their island because they started to find him cute? Yep, me and I'll never let him leave because he really is the cutest squirrel ever... after Ione of course. 😂

I used to hate Julian. Then I got him in my first new leaf save, my new horizons island, and then my second new leaf save. He just randomly moved in all three times. I joke with my friends I’m being stalked lmaooo

In any case, he’s grown on me a lot :)

For me it was Redd. I used to hate Redd back in New Leaf. Going to his tent on the plaza filled with me with hope but also with dread. At that time I wasn't too sure about fakes so when I got conned I instantly took my frustrations out on Redd. In this game I felt like I liked Redd a lot more, especially now that he has a bigger role in other special events and that my museum is complete. I also really like foxes so I'm still hopeful that one day we'll get more fox villagers or NPCs. Maybe even NPCs that are related to Redd.

Hate is a strong word, I've never really hated any of the villagers in the game, but I wasn't a fan of Marshal. Ironically he's now one of my favorite boys, and mi amigo.

So basically before I played Animal Crossing, I would watch my friend play it religiously. So she really wanted Marshal, so I slightly made fun of him, which drove her crazy

I called him *Bishi Squirrel* dince he was a pretty boy squirrel and popular (Its actually his current catch phrase)

Well, I was planning on designing my island after my novel, and basing all my villagers off various characters, so I was looking for someone to fit one character, and since all the characters were abart of colored kingdoms, I wanted a yellow villager

So, Marshal wasn't completly yellow, but he was pretty Close to Mattie. So.. I ended up getting him, and boy did I make fun of him, but he did grow on me, and slowly became a favorite.

Probably because of his little tail bounce) but long story short, I absolutly love him now.

He is currently Gregory on my island. Because they're both smug twits.

I'm totally considering buying Happy Homes dlc just so that I can change his house and get rid of the toilet & bidet. I mean, they're cartoons. They don't need restroom facilities. And I agree, he would want something more dignified than a toilet right in the front of the house. They even gave him a partition, but it's on the wrong side of the toilets! I also want to change poor Cousteau's house because he was my starter jock and his house is horrible. He deserves so much better.

I agree with you about Klaus's cheek circles. It is my least favorite part of his design. His grey/blue coloring isn't the best either, but I've learned to overlook the parts I don't like.

I'm actually planning on getting Jambette's amiibo at some point. I like her design. I don't understand the hate for her. So she has big lips. So what? I've had plenty of friends with big lips and many were very attractive. Poor Jambette. She's underrated for sure!

Goose and Katt.

I hated them in previous iterations of the game. When I first arrived on Vylbrand and walked out of the airport to see them waiting I immediately thought, "I'm kicking you both out as soon as possible." That never happened. Turns out that I now can't imagine my game without them.

It's hard to imagine you ever hating Goose!
