ok so not to sound like a 40 year old mother of three but i recently downloaded facebook on my phone and opened up my account i have had since 2011 or 2012 or something like that. i did it for school related reasons (contacting group members on messenger) and cannot see myself using it as the social platform it is.

as i was unliking every post i liked in 2012 and just in general cleaning up my account, since it now has my legal name attached to it (for the longest time i had a very embarrassing facebook name), i thought about how much i dislike facebook as a platform. i know that logically other social medias track a lot of information as well, but facebook to me just feels like the next level and that's why i hate using it so much. also it isn't a platform that most young people i know use, none of my friends are active on facebook so i don't see why i would use it.

anyway, does anyone here like facebook? or use it often? what's your opinion on its creepiness (or lack thereof)?

while i do have a facebook account, i very solemnly log into it and don’t like it much at all. i loved it when i was younger and would even play some of the games on there, but as a fresh adult, i just don’t care for it. it’s not because i find it creepy or anything, it’s mainly just the whole aspect of that social platform doesn’t appeal to me, at all. plus, it seems that nowadays facebook is mainly used by middle-aged folk or those who are older so i don’t think it’s a community for me at all lmao.

my parents, on the other hand, adore facebook (or rather, they still like the game aspect of it) and are on it for several hours each day. i don’t understand the appeal or why my mother finds it necessary to continuously post statuses on what’s happening in her life (a lot of it being personal and involving other people’s situations) but to each their own, i guess lmao

The last time i used it was in middle school. Everyone i know moved to twitter but i get friends request from random people daily, so there are lots who still use it.
My dad uses it but he recently discovered twitter, i think he might start using it less XD

I had a Facebook account years ago. I did it to connect with family. These days, I don't know why. I ended up just sharing funny memes, joking with my mom, and following pages to get pictures of animals I liked. I probably used messenger the most, since the texting I had on my old cellphone was a pain to use.

Otherwise, I soon left Facebook. I was tired of family drama. Plus, I came to hate Facebook's stalking-like mentality. I learned that if everyone else is using/doing it- think twice before you join in! So I quit. I will never, ever go back. lol

nope and i'm probably never gonna get one, if they wanna contact me they can do it on my phone... i hate this pseudo-force by others just bc ur a class... like ever heard of texts or phone numbers?

(yes i have insta but it's to follow some ppl i know and companies and it's self-chosen and i have it private)

I've never been a fan of Facebook. The only reason I have an account is to communicate with various family members who rely too much on their cellphones and seem to have forgotten how to send a regular email or use an old school telephone.

Even though my main purpose is to communicate with family members and occasionally post my Animal Crossing screenshots, I barely use it. I don't find any other reasons to use it to be honest as my interest on using it has dropped down like a rock.

Years ago, when I was just in elementary school, I went on facebook frequently to play the games they have there. Farmville and Cafe World are my favourites to play (haven't heard those names in a long while!). Eventually, I find it to be too grindy as my progress went on and I stopped playing altogether. I couldn't find the games on facebook anymore as far as I know.

lmao my boss added me on facebook and i have no idea how he found me, because i don't understand why i would be recommended to him (not friends with any co-workers, haven't added where i work or what i do...) and i don't see why he would search me up?? so i'm a little creeped out by that

I use Facebook because a lot of people I know still do, although I primarily use Messenger and don't post a whole lot. I pretty much only share work-related posts. I post all my personal stuff on Instagram.

Never liked or really understood Facebook. I don’t see myself using it anytime soon.

i use facebook almost everyday primarily for checking out my uni's student org events and local events. i also use it to message acquaintances, classmates, or coworkers with whom i don't want to share my phone number lol. my friends recently invited me to a few popular fb groups related to my culture and travel, so occasionally i check out the content. it feels nice to tag my friends in posts where we share cultural similarities or even tag them for future travel ideas. although i use facebook often, i don't care about it as much as other platforms. a few friends still tag photos of me, but i don't update my profile photo and i don't post.

i know social media platforms are increasingly using AI/data, so i feel like facebook's creepiness doesn't surprise me anymore. i should be questioning data privacy though. maybe it's just me, but i usually see friend recommendations on the side of my feed or when i directly click on friend requests. there are certain people who some of your friends know, but you don't. facebook has recommended new friend suggestions to me, twice, through one notification and each time, it was one specific person who had already appeared in recommendations prior to the notification. idk why the random-timing notification is necessary and idk whether it came up as a result of the recommended person checked out my profile, they had a few mutuals with me, or another reason :/

I don't like/use it anymore for this same reason. It's creepy, how the hell do they find who's my ex's aunt, sister's husband or coworker in previous work while from the name/place it has to find no relation between us.

I was just thinking this morning about how it seems like mostly older people use Facebook now. My parents never actually made Facebook accounts (although all our relatives seem to be on it) & I feel incredibly fortunate for that (my dad’s page would be so humiliating)
I remember seeing the Facebook page of an ex-friend’s dad recently because I wanted to know what they were up to. All he seems to post is sketchy news and “My grandpa is a 95-year-old WWII veteran. I bet this won’t even get one like!”-type posts. Of course he can post what he wants, but I feel like those types of posts are predominant on Facebook today, hence why it’s not the most appealing to the current generation.

i still use it just because messenger is rly easy and a lot of group chats (work, classes, etc.) use it! also i like sharing my photos on it for faraway friends/family :')

but yeah the internet knows a terrifying amount

I just use facebook for updates from the clubs in my university I'm involved in. Other than that, I use it to message a handful of people who I don't have on any other platform and that's about it. Nobody in my age group here (early 20s) seems to use fb much anymore. Instagram is the popular thing now that people use most widely for sharing photos, memes etc.

like 10 years ago i wanted facebook cuz all of my friends had it but my mum was like i dont want u having facebook until ur 13 and i was pissed but by the time i was 13 i didnt want facebook. glad i wasnt allowed on there cuz it would have been EMBARRASSING!! i never liked the privacy thing on it and that someone could find me and see everyone i know and my life isnt interesting anyway so theres nothing to post on it. i did make a facebook for my friend once just to use messenger and had a few photos on there but ive always been uncomfortable about that so i deleted everything and stopped using messenger

i pretty much only have facebook for uni- clubs and orgs advertise events on it, we use messenger, etc. but i don't think anyone my age uses it for ~social media~ purposes anymore (like updating statuses, etc.). i'm only a second year in uni, but already the first years and everyone else younger than me largely don't use fb anymore and say it's for old people. i understand that, but i still encourage all the first years i meet who say that to get one anyway, just only for school's sake.

Facebook is a goldmine for information about people, organizations, etc. which can make it useful but ultimately creepy as hell. It's scary how much personal information you can find about a person through their Facebook page.

I've had a Facebook account since like 2009 back when it was "cool" to have one. I've never really liked it all that much and my dislike for it has increased over the years, same goes for Instagram.
I've always preferred Twitter.
