What's been your favorite generation of pokemon so far? Note that I'm asking specifically the generation (all games within that time period including spinoffs and remakes), not the region (though the new region introduced in that gen could be the reason!)

Personally my favorite region is Gen 3 as I love all the games that game out in that gen. The RSE games are very solid and I love Hoenn and the pokemon introduced then. My favorite games of all time are Colosseum and XD gale of darkness, and Fire Red and Life Green are solid remakes. My other top two are in gen 4 and 5

i've only played since oras, but i would say my favorite generation is usum. (sorry, don't know what gen. that is. 7?) swsh is enjoyable, but i really loved usum. the islands were so pretty, solgaleo is my favorite legendary, lillie is one of my favorite characters so far, the shiny hunting method was simple to understand, and it had such cute clothes. (rip team skull and lurantis outfits.) my only real gripe was that getting other clothing colors from the festival plaza was a nightmare, but that's it really.

I had to pick only one so I picked Gen 5, but Gen 4 is pretty much tied with it. These were my favourite gens of Pokémon. B2W2 were pretty much my favourite games. No game so far has come close to them. Legends has definitely surprised me in a good way so Gen 8 is now in 3rd place.

I’m going with Gen 3. Croconaw is my all time favorite Pokémon who is Gen 2, but Gen 3 had better games. I’d say Pokémon Emerald is one of my favorite Pokémon games. Colosseum and Gale of Darkness were both top notch video games.

Generation 4 to the max. Nothing tops the mainline games during that time for me, and the spinoffs were pretty great too.

My favorite game was Heartgold so I voted for Gen 4! I had such a fun time playing it when I was younger, and loved that you could go to both Johto and Kanto in the game. I also loved the pokeathlon minigames. Plus the Arceus DLC thing was super cool!

Generation 5. I dunno, it just stuck with me for various reasons. The game was fun, the story was great, the Pokemon designs were great (some of them being my favourite Pokemon), the region, while linear as heck, was great.

Granted, Pokemon Legends: Arceus has taken the spot of my favourite game, Generation 5 is still my favourite Generation.

Gen IV 🥰 It's got it all. My favorite and second favorite games of the franchise, my favorite region, all the lore in it and my favorite starter. I guess it's also the nostalgia a little bit. My top 3 are completed by Gen V and III in that order

Pokémonwise Generation 3, Gamewise Generation 5. I haven't finished the other games, but god do I love Pokémon Black/White. I respect the generation lock during the main game so much too.

I picked Generation 5, but Gen 4 is pretty much tied with it. The only reason Gen 5 won over 4 was the music, and even that was a close contest. The DS era was the peak of the Pokemon series in my opinion.

I've played Pokemon up to every Gen (except SwSh and BDSP, so Legends Arceus is pretty much my first Gen 8 game) and I can say that Gen 5 is my absolute favorite. When it comes to story, only Sun/Moon come remotely close to its level in care and detail. GF put a lot of thought to the storytelling and character development in Black/White and Black/White 2, and SuMo. I love Gen 5 for the animated, full body sprites of Pokemon. Each Pokemon is animated so nicely, each one is full of charm and personality, very unlike the Gen 6 and beyond 3D models (although Gen 8 Legends Arceus brought back that charm and I am just so enamored with every Pokemon I come across).

Black/White restricting us to only Gen 5 Pokemon for the main game was soooooo good because in past games if I can use Mareep or Nidoran male I sure as heck will but Black/White made me more open-minded to using all kinds of Pokemon and not just using the same ones over and over. I discovered so many favorites such as Cottonee, Sewaddle, Drilbur and especially Axew 🥰

I love Gen 5 for the animated sprites of trainers and NPCs both in battle and in the overworld, and I also really love the transition of seasons and how dynamic the soundtrack is. This wasn't an easy poll to vote because I do have a strong fondness for Gen 3, mainly Fire Red and Leaf Green as they are, in my opinion, the definitive way of experiencing Kanto. Hoenn is amazing, too, with ORAS definitely being the way to go.

Gen 4 - Platinum is the one and only almighty Sinnoh.

2. Had some of the best Pokémon and an actual rude rival, plus the fact you got both Johto and Kanto was the best. Plus the HG/SS remakes were also real good.

Gen 2. It felt like a significant overhaul from Gen 1, but without losing the classic feel, and it also added one of my favourite aspects to the game: breeding. It was also super exciting getting to meet new Pokémon for the first time.

I'd have to say Gen 4, mainly because of SoulSilver being my favorite Pokemon game of all time even if I'm not as high on DPPt as some other people. Gen 5 is a close second since both BW and BW2 are really strong games. After that I'd say Gen 3 (first generation for me, so lots of nostalgia, plus a fan of RSE and Colosseum) and Gen 8 (I like SwSh, love Legends: Arceus) are tied for third.

After giving it some thought I say Generation 4 because it was the generation that got me into the Pokemon series. I played Pearl and then Platinum I remember putting 600 hours into that game because I loved it so much and it had a lot of content to keep me going. I even completed the national dex. Yes I was so hooked in that game that I actually completed the Pokedex just once.

My favorite is Generation 4. I started with the Sinnoh games and I loved the fourth gen very much, especially Platinum and SoulSilver. When I was a child, I used to play the Sinnoh games with some kids in my neighborhood and we often played that capture the flag game in the Underground, which was fun. Plus, the physical/special attack split was nice. In addition, I loved the spinoffs from this generation like the Mystery Dungeon and Ranger games.

I also loved the Gen 2 games very much, and HG/SS were brilliant remakes. Gen 7 was a solid generation too, and I admired how tropical the Alola region was. Plus, the music was very beautiful, and the Island Challenge was fun and engaging. I also enjoyed Gen 6 very much, especially Pokemon Amie. In addition, I like that Mega Evolution gave some Pokemon an edge in battle like Mawile. I also enjoyed Gen 8 because Sword/Shield has some fun Max Raid Battles, and PL: Arceus is one of my all-time favorites in the franchise.

Overall, there are things I like in all the generations, though Gen 4 is my favorite.

Pokémons wise I'd say Gen5, but gameplay wise I'd say Gen6.
I also reallly liked Gen8. SW/SH Pokémons were really amazing in my opinion.

Gen 3 by far. It was fresh but didn't stray too far from the pokemon feel and it didn't feel super gimmicky. I really like the Hoenn games. The map was interesting, the pokemon were good designs, though there were a lot of water pokemon... sprite work was great and not fuzzy feeling. Music was great. I liked hearing pokemon calls in the over world on routes. I would totally play those games as they are again. They are my favorite pokemon games.

gen 1 got a remake even though I didn't get to play. And pokemon colosseum came out during that. I enjoyed that game alot during it's time (I wouldn't go back to play it again though).

This is a really tough question! I really like Generation 5 because it was my first Pokemon generation. I got White (I wanted Black because I thought Reshiram was cooler), but honestly? Zekrom really grew on me, and now I like Zekrom more than Reshiram! I also really like Generation 4, as Pearl was my second game in the series. Pearl was given to me as a gift by somebody I don't talk to anymore (long story), and I still think Dialga is cooler than Palkia. I also really like Generation 7, and spent quite a bit of time in both Moon and Ultra Moon (I used to run a Tumblr blog dedicated to Nebby that got semi-popular during Generation 7!) Generation 8, while Dexit makes me frustrated, really entertained me with Sword. I thought a lot of the ideas were neat, and the curry making feature is one of my favorite minigames in the whole series. Zacian (and Zamazenta) are up there as some of my favorite Pokemon (I'm biased towards dog Pokemon). I tend to be a bit biased towards which Pokemon generation is my favorite overall, because usually, whichever generation most recently came out tends to be my favorite. No idea why.

I'm glad gen 5 gets more love these days. When I played gen 5 after it came out, everyone dogged on it hard core and called it lazy and ugly. I loved it though.
My absolute favorite is gen 3 because I grew up with it but I also love gen 7. Gen 3 has a lot of great memories for me.
