spirited away will always be one of my favorite movies of all time, without a doubt. it was the first ghibli movie i ever saw when i was a kid, and i was always fascinated by it as it was so different from everything i usually watched. other than that, ponyo & howl's moving castle are probably tied for second, although i've honestly loved every film of theirs that i've seen.
there are just so many that i haven't watched the first one i watched is ponyo which to me was really cool i was like 8 and thats what got me into anime XD, ive only watched two others soo, out of those ponyo i guess is my favorite
My favorite has to be Castle in the Sky, which is also the first one I saw (or maybe that was Spirited Away, but I first saw both many years ago) and Howl's Moving Castle is a close second.
I think Spirited Away, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and My Neighbor Totoro are perfect. But my most favorite Studio Ghibli film is Spirited Away. (these are the Ghibli films I have watched by this time.)
I haven't seen all of them, but I've watched quite a few. Among the films I've watched my favorites are:
- Princess Mononoke: This was my first Studio Ghibli film and also easily my favorite. I love the characters and the theme of protecting nature which can be found in many Studio Ghibli movies.
- Grave of the Fireflies: I love a good tragedy and this is by far the most tragic animated movie I have ever seen. It has so much depth and the characters are so sympathetic. It's a movie I will never forget.
- Pom Poko: I'm kind of sad that nobody else likes this one. It combines the two themes above, using tragedy to bring awareness to the plight of animals being forced out of their habitats by constant human development. I thought it was a very powerful story.
Honorable Mentions:
- Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Castle in the Sky
- Spirited Away
they are all so good but i am gonna have to choose ponyo, it was my first and it holds a special place in my heart. it always makes me smile and its so cute
While I love the classics, spirited away, moving castle, etc, I really adore The Cat Returns and Princess Mononoke. Tales of earth sea is amazing as well though I?m not sure if that?s Ghibli
