Since I played Pokémon Platinum so much the feature I missed was the Poketch that was located on the bottom of the DS Screen. It was such a useful thing to have. It had so many unique features like showing the Map of the Region while you're moving, Your Pokémon's current health, and one where it tells you which moves were super affective (Believe me this was super helpful to me since I first played Pokémon).

I do love secret bases and I miss amie/ refresh a lot but a more consistant feature I loved was being able to grow your own berries. Especially the cross-breeding that was introduced in XY and then promptly taken out. It triggers the same dopamine release that growing flower hybrids in ac does for me I guess lol.

Also the way you could get items in XY by using certain moves on rocks and grass was really cool. Now that I think about it, XY had some great features

Honestly, quite a lot:
  • Seasons from pokemon black and white and black 2 and white 2. Imo it was a nice gimmick and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it follow the Seasons in real time too? It was cool to jump into the leaves in autumn and hear your footsteps crunch in the snow.
  • Pokemon following you. Yeah technically it's still in the game with the expansion for sw/sh but why wasn't it in the main game, specifically in the wild area? At least in generation 9 from what I heard Pokemon will be able to follow you.
  • The minigames from Pokemon X and Y. I may be alone on this, but I miss the soccer game (don't remember what it was called) that boosted your stats and the punching bags you one from it. I also miss O.G. Pokemon refresh where you could play games with your Pokemon to earn pokepuffs. The games were pretty fun imo and definitely encourages the player to play them. I also miss random people's pokemon able to give you gifts to add to that place where you can decorate.
  • Missing moves/unbreakable Tms is a big one for me.
  • And of course, I too wouldn't mind secret bases returning!

I'd like the Vs. Seeker to return. It was a useful feature to rematch trainers in the Sinnoh games and FR/LG to level up my Pokemon team more easily. I also liked the Match Call from the Hoenn games as well as the Pokegear from the Johto games that allowed you to call trainers and re-battle them. Their teams are not only stronger, but can also help you gain money fast. It really comes in handy.

Here are more features I miss:

1. Pokemon following you - They did bring it back in recent games like BD/SP and in the Crown Tundra/Isle of Armor in Sword/Shield, so hopefully this feature will return in Gen 9.
2. Diving underwater - This was a really cool feature in the Hoenn games! They did bring it back in Gen 5 but not to the same extent. It was fun to explore areas under the sea.
3. Secret Bases - It was fun to decorate them with Pokemon plushies and furniture in Gen 3 and Gen 4, although the secret bases in BD/SP are not as enjoyable since you just lay down statues. I also liked that capture the flag game in D/P/Pl and it was a great multiplayer feature.
4. Horde Battles - This was a really cool battle format from Gen 6 since you get to face five Pokemon at once and it makes it easier to EV Train Pokemon. It's also very useful for shiny hunting, like once I found a shiny Whismur in X with this method.

One of my main gripes with gamefreak is that each game must have a gimmick they completely discard on the next one... I guess its cool so each game has something special, but also a few feel kind of integral to the game (also lately the battle-related ones do the same thing but with different graphics....)
I'm pleasantly surprised that they kept pokemon amie around, I think I will never forgive them if they ever remove it lol.
  • Sun/Moon was the last pokemon game I played, so I don't know if they brought it again on later games, but triple battles! I don't like battles much in general (don't ask why I keep playing RPGs), but triple ones were so fun! I liked controlling so many pokemon at once.
  • Platinum's battle towers, where each tower had a special gimmick. I specially loved the roulette & loaned pokemon ones.
  • I found secret bases ugly because you were forced to have a ground floor/walls, but I liked to decorate my room, that was cute. I also liked how your mother saved a bit of your money. I think with both of these added it would make players return to their hometown from time to time.
  • I miss walking with your pokemon on the overworld too, but looking at the DP remakes, I think it didn't translate well to 3D, some pokemon are just too huge. I'm not sure how it looks in Pikachu/Eevee, so I may be wrong though.
  • Mega evolution! The only silly battle gimmick I enjoyed, it was nice to have slight redesigns of forgotten pokemon, lots of ones who got a mega were favorites of mine (but I still think Mega-Audino should've been an evolution... it looks sufficiently different and I want to use it again, it was too pretty!)
  • Those dumb minigames you had to play to transfer your pokemon from an old gen to a new one. But only because to do that now you have to pay $10 lmao
  • I also liked in black/white how when you ran, it added more instruments to the background music! It was very fun.

Other than having a customizable secret base/room with good furniture (no statues plz) and the DexNav, I really want GF to bring back/implement consumables for trade evos. Now that co-op is a thing, I believe trading should only be for version exclusive mons or shinies. Making trade a requirement ruins the whole adventure experience and feels like more of silly task to force interaction with other players. Trade evos are a relic of the past and I really hope GF beings the Linking Cord from Legends into ScarVio. Knowing GF I know that this is a pipe dream but I can only hope.

They kinda brought back secret bases in BD/SP but not in the fun way Gen 3 implemented it (plushies and little doo-dad decorations + getting to battle your friend's team in their base). I miss Gen 3 bases for sure!

I think I miss flat pixel art the most (gens 1-3 style "flat" perspective). Gen 4-5 "kinda 3D" was interesting but I liked the top-down style of gens 1-3. The 3D models and shifting camera perspective make me really dizzy so I really miss flatness.

As for a feature I miss, I miss diving. It was slow to dive but it was also beautiful on the ocean floor. IDK if they brought it back for OR/AS since I didn't play those games, but it would be cool to see a new generation of diving.

Secret bases were my favorite. I guess the reason why I like animal crossing was because I could decorate my own house. I loved collecting plushies to decorate my secret base.I remember I we use to play the flag game on the secret base where we would steal each other’s flag.

i loved secret bases because i am a gen 3 fanatic, however, i think moreso than bases, i miss pokemon amie a LOT. i didn't think i'd like it but i ended up adoring it. i miss it very much and camping holds a very pale light in comparison to it imo.

diving was in ORAS too! if you get the opportunity to play ORAS i recommend it if you're a fan of gen 3, it's a very good remake IMO.

I loved the online communication feature added in Gen 6 is something I love. Making your profile, pfps, asking for battles/trades, sending O powers to friends and sending them their own "thumbs up" button. Their online is nothing like that anymore as I feel it's so dry and bland.

I never used the secret base features and always ignored that aspect of the game so I don't care if they brought it back. Unless they gave it a revamp I might be able to get into it cause usually I'm all about the decorating in games but idk why it didn't stand out in those games.

weirdly gamefreak doesn't include so many of newly introduced features that you would think should become staples in the pokemon games. like why shouldn't i be able to create a small little base resembling my own gym or even champion room? i get that they want each and every game to feel different and unique, but slapping new features on every game and never having them return just creates unsatisfied and angry fans in my opinion. it's also weird seeing some features return in other spin off titles (like megas in pokemon go) but others just being completely forgotten. but to answer the question, along secret bases i'm one of many people who misses megas because i think they were the best and most interesting feature they added to battles. yes some were a bit too overpowered, but with a little nerfing here and there it should have become a staple of the franchise i think

The last Pokémon game I played fully was Pokémon X/Y, so I don't know how the more recent Pokémon games are these days. But I really loved the secret bases, and the berry planting, and the casino!

I also just.. miss the more pixellated Pokémon. Oh and when you could have one of your Pokémon out to follow you around!
