I've thought about getting a new fish and I thought instead of getting a tetra like before, I'd get a betta. Do you have any tips for raising them?

I'd get a heater for them since they are tropical fish. Also get some floating pellets for food since their mouth is turned upright and they won't float to the bottom and produce waste when decomposing . I'm not a betta fish expert though, so you should do some research first.

Oh i do! I suggest getting at least a 5g tank. I usually add a heater, unless your room is generally warm. You can only keep one per tank though. And you need to do water changes at least every 2 weeks. Thats just the generalization and if you want indepth info, just ask me!

Ruby's markings are gorgeous

@Norski : First and foremost cycle your tank before getting a betta. Your tank should be at least a 2.5 gallon, and make sure to get a filter (or a tank that comes with one) and get a heater that goes up to 80 degrees fahrenheit.
Also get some water conditioner! It helps with neutralizing the ammonia as well as helps their slime coats.

thanks! Ruby is so unphotogenic i can't get a clear picture. He is either flaring through the divider or swimming upp and down

My fish does this thing where whenever I get my phone out he either hides in a corner or looks straight at the camera so he just looks like a blob with a face

The struggle

my dad spent over $3k on this huge fish tank, all the fish and a ton of other cool things. im not sure if it was a good idea for him to spend that much money. the fish tank looks awesome, i just rarely stop to look into it every day

ah my mom has a 125g tank and idek how expensive it is but it looks amazing

I've kept a gold fish and beta fish when I was little, but they ended up dying sooner than I wanted it to so I didn't really buy anymore fish pets. I did gave them some interesting names at least xD

My aunt bought a fish tank that was also a cabinet. It was around $400.

I used to have a gorgeous marine reef tank with live corals, etc. Then there was an ice storm in my area and we lost power for a week in the middle of winter. Never had the heart to get back into the hobby after that.

Ouch. I feel for ya.

I used to have a regular 55g salt water tank, not a reef. But one day, when I was at work, it broke. What a mess. And that was it for me and fish.
