Fish?

I've always found it strange how somebody can eat fish, but also own fish. It's probably just 'cause I'm a vegan, but it's alien to me.

I have a beautiful goldfish that I won at a game of hook-a-duck when I was very little. I named it Nemo.

I bought one fish from petsmart that was actually pregnant... Soon, I had like 100 babies swimming around...

I mean I don't like the taste of most fish anyways but a pet fish wouldn't even make a snack so

Though I did eat sole a while ago and I was like is my fish side-eyeing me rn

I guess it's just strange to me because fish are so insignificant to most people. It seems like the smaller, more colourful fish get the best treatment. Every other, more ordinary kind, has no meaning anymore. It's quite depressing when I think about it, actually. I really shouldn't.

I love seafood. Then again I've also done volunteer work on a farm and still eat chicken, beef, bacon, etc. It bothered me in my teens but now not at all.

Yikes! How did you handle that?

my friend owns a pot belly big and he eats bacon every morning. i't's not that weird really.
usually people don't care what type of meat they eat, now they probably wont cook their pet but i mean, i wouldn't feel bad owning a pot belly big and eating bacon because i love bacon and i love my pig.

Goldfish are a super popular pet and they're rather plain. Idk how you'd expect people to keep huge salmon and tuna as pets if that's what you're saying 'cause they'd need waaaay more resources than your everyday pet fish.

I will agree it's kind of sad that people see fish as "just fish" and don't really care about them while they have them as pets though.

To be honest, fish aren't really pets really but more of a decoration. They basically just sit there all day and swim around, taking care of them isn't really enjoyable or fun.

Plus my turtle always eats my fish anyway lol

Although, Fish like these are pretty cool let me say.

I wouldn't say they aren't pets. People like me who dedicate alot of time to taking care of them have grown attached to them. I would be really sad if one of my fish died. Just because you can't pet them, doesn't mean they're not pets.

I'm vegan, and i really don't see why people eat meat for any other reason than flavor. Not going to get into a debate, but I'm just putting that out there.

Can we not turn a thread where people post about their lovely fish into yet another vegan thread please :)

I've only had Roan a few days and know I'd bawl like a baby if he were to pass tomorrow. I just had an instant connection with him. I'm not at home tonight and I miss him and my hamster, Ranmaru, a ton. My boys are my reason for getting up in the morning while real life is so stressful. They still need fed and social interaction even if I just want to lie in bed all day. Making up for it by cuddling with one of my parents four cats on the sofa right now.

Do you have pictures of your tank?

I will get a photo tomorrow when I go home.

I'm confused about betta fish. They are at my local petsmart but they put them in small contrainers. Like REALLY small containers.
This petsmart puts the guppies, goldfish, etc. in much larger tanks in the back. Why are they in such tiny containers?

They're too aggressive to be kept together. They'd just kill each other.

I gave the entire tank to my aunt who still has them all. She loves fish.

I just looked them up and they're also called "Siamese fighting fish". Whoops.

I thought about buying one since my other fish are gone.

Bc pet stores are nasty.
They'll fight if they're put together (and putting them with other fish isn't always a good idea) but it isn't really good for pet stores to set up a tank for each betta either considering they usually have like 40.

Bettas get the **** end of the stick.

No, because I don't like keeping exotic animals as pets. Even fish. I see them in aquariums and feel bad, and start imagining what their lives would be like in their natural habitat. So yeah, no zoos or aquariums for me. Sanctuaries are ok, even though some might be shady as well.

Ps: I get that most fish people have in their aquariums have never even seen an ocean and were bred, but that's not the point. They're still not meant to be inside a glass bowl/tank(IMO). I find them beautiful and rather see them free.

Here is my betta fish! His name is Jason! :D
