I love real animal products. I LOVE real meat, and real milk, and the like. But I also love certain meat substitutes, and sometimes I think that if I had a much wider variety of tasty animal substitutes, I might consider becoming a vegan, or at least vegetarian. I love animals, but it sucks that they have to die to provide us with the things that we love.

Some substitutes I really enjoy are Tofu, Imitation crab, and Almond or Soy milk.

Tofu can be super yummy if cooked certain ways. I love tofu in my miso soup. I also love imitation crab, because it really does taste just like crab, maybe a little sweeter, but it's so soft and fluffy like a marshmallow. At least I'm pretty sure they didn't substitute the crab with some cheaper meat... I like to call them my crabby marshmallows lol. I love to drink Soy milk straight, or use it in dishes. I only use Almond milk with other foods or drinks though, never straight. I hate the way straight Almond milk tastes, even the flavored Almond milk is gross to me. However, it tastes excellent in my Chai Tea lattes, and it's way low in calories. A perfect milk substitute for strict diets. I also pour it over cereal, and cook with it.

Any food substitutes that you just LOVE? It doesn't matter if you're a vegan, vegetarian, or if you just enjoy them. If you really like it, I wanna know what it is. Maybe I'll try it myself!

i really enjoy imitation crab.. not sure why, but i ain't complaining. i also like vanilla almond milk, and i always forget this fact whenever i'm out food shopping.

i've been wanting to work with tofu! i've tried it once when i was really young, but it seems like it has a lot of potential.

They're not really substitutes for me because I don't eat meat in the first place, but I love making my own veggie burgers. I don't drink cow pus either so I'm a big fan of the Califa Farms unsweetened almond milk. I also like using soy free EarthBalance instead of butter. I love tofu in wraps or cooked.

This vegan place I go to has amazing meat substitutes. They almost tasted exactly like the real thing but less fatty and greasy, and I definitely prefer it over actual meat. If only I actually knew what they used besides tofu though, I would totally buy/make some for myself. Also rice milk is pretty good too, I always get the vanilla enriched since it kind of lacks flavor but I always use it to make milk tea.

I love that tofu can have a couple different textures, it seems, when cooked differently. It can almost feel like meat when say grilled or fried, but can be soaked and softened into some yummy pudding like snack. It's so soft and smooth in miso soup, and it almost has a nutty flavor to it that I love!

Is this place you go to a chain by chance? If there are multiple locations, I'd gladly go out on a limb and search for some nearby me!

Veggie burgers are surprisingly yummy too. I guess I forgot all about them since I've only had like 2 or 3 ever, but they also taste great. The ones I tried didn't have the best texture though, but that doesn't mean all of them feel the way mine did.

As an FYI most imitation crab is a mixture of various different fish, so it isn't really a meat substitute. I agree it is tasty though and WAY cheaper than real crab meat! o_O

Either way, tofu rocks for sure! I love it! Lentils can also make a good ground beef substitute in things like shepherds pie and sloppy joes. I am a big fan of Beyond Meat brand. There stuff is very good and tastes almost real! They do chicken and beef right now. ^-^

Although it's not really a food substitute, I'd like to recommend to everyone, Spaghetti squash! Just boil it, and scoop out the insides into a bowl. Then top it with some marinara or whatever kind of pasta sauce you like, and you basically have a veggie version of actual spaghetti. I LOVE the stuff. It has a little crunch to it, but when you're in an Italian kinda mood, it's the perfect diet food!

Darn, I have been deceived. My yummy crab puffs aren't animal friendly after all. I'd definitely look into these lentils though. I'm a big fan of all kinds of meat, so it's totally worth a look :)

Is tofu really a substitute if you eat it as it's own thing as opposed to in replacement of something?

I guess not? SO, I guess it would have been better to use the word "Replacement", because it's more correct? I'm not the sharpest tool, so I'm not really sure here, but chances are you are correct. If you are indeed saying Replacement>Substitute in this situation.

Wow, my last post did something really weird. I don't think it was supposed to add on as a post merge, since you posted after me...

And it did it again, nevermind...

I have been meaning to try spaghetti squash! I really should pick some up sometime! ^-^ Sorry you were deceived by the imitation crab. They are not super clear about what it is. :C Also lentils are just their own thing, and Beyond Meat is a seperate brand of meat substitute products. I re-read my post and it kinda sounded like I was saying they are the same thing! XD

Nah, I think your post was pretty clear. Even for a dingbat like me hehe. I'll definitely keep my eye out for some of the Beyond Meat products next time I go shopping ><

Haha! Ok good! (and I am sure you aren't a dingbat! ;P) Happy hunting! I'll let you know what I think of the spaghetti squash! ^-^

I'm a vegan. Never tried meat before (or cared to), so I can't really say I have any substitutes. I tried a McDonalds vegeterian burger a while ago and it was easily one of the most awful things I've tasted in my life. Pretty much convinced they're deliberately trying to keep people away from making the switch by making the alternatives taste as disgusting as humanly possible.

Quorn do the best vegeterian/vegan stuff, in my opinion.

soy milk, i'm lactose intolerant, and every time i drink a little milk my stomach hurts a lot. it's a good substitute, i personally like the sugar free soy milk. i like eating cereal with it and pretend i'm a normal kid who eats cereal for breakfast, like in the movies. ;;

I'm a pescatarian but since I can't afford seafood every day for ever, even though I would LIKE to, I eat a lot of meat substitutes and I like them all a lot. I really enjoy Morningstar products, I think even though they are the more widely known brand they have the best flavor/texture than the lesser known brands. I also really love Tofurky and I get the smoked lunch meat all the time the texture is a little rubbery if you're not used to it but I actually really enjoy it, I also enjoy their mini "roasts" which is supposed to be like a baked turkey substitute and comes stuffed with a nice stuffing that is really yummy too. I have it for Thanksgiving pretty regularly. I also really like tofu it has a lot of uses because of it's mild flavor you can go sweet or savory with it and it's good either way, I've made a pretty boss mousse with silken tofu and cake mix. I could go on forever, there are a lot of really delicious meat substitutes, and one that I loved even before going vegetarian is Boca burgers. They're really good and easy to make and have really good mouth feel and flavor!

I really enjoy Quorn's chicken the best, but they don't carry any of their other products where I live. =[

I really like these imitation sausages we have in certain stores here. I can't stand the quorh stuff but this one is different and actually have some texture to it. The quorn ones seem slimy to me....I don't really like much proper meat. Sometimes I may fancy bacon or a McDonald's burger, generally I prefer the veggie alternatives :)

Is it morningstar in the green packaging? I really love their breakfast sausages, especially making them into biscuits and gravy MMM

Pretty much my whole diet consists of vegan imitations/substitutes of junk food(living that healthy life); fry's is my favorite brand of imitation meats and things, booja booja chocolate ice cream, daiya & earth balance mac and cheese (although they're not available in my country so I've only had it once, someone please send me some...), chocolate coconut milk, vego choclate bars, vitalife spread, violife cheese,

i really like tempeh! it's similar to tofu but i find it has a nicer texture. tofu is really good too, i love it marinated in a mix of soy sauce and maple syrup.
