More animals. It's animal crossing.
I'm sure there is someone out there who used all 8, but I think it's unlikely for most people to use 8 players. 4 would be enough for most people. And many people would want thier own island to rule.
New Horizons has a bigger town size than the GameCube version (by about 12 acres if I'm not mistaken), but truthfully the island still feels smaller than any GCN town. I think part of the reason for this is because there are less villagers, and the island is intentionally designed to be fairly barren/empty because of the emphasis on decorating the outdoors. Having more villagers would help to solve this issue.
On my NH save for example, a lot of my villagers and player houses are pretty clustered together to give off a suburban neighborhood vibe, while still trying to feel like classic Animal Crossing. This means the northern half of my island actually feels quite empty and I don't really have much motivation to do a lot of decorating because I want my town to look fairly natural. While I admire people who create intricate and beautiful islands, I prefer the minimalistic/simple designs personally.
More villager slots would mean I could create smaller clusters of houses and put more thought into where my villagers live beyond "I want my favorite villagers to be my closest neighbors" because when I have like 5 of my favorite villagers within fairly close proximity to my house, it leaves a lot of empty space elsewhere because half of the town lives so close together. Perhaps this is just a design flaw of my own creation, though.
I could make more player characters to fill up the space elsewhere, but to be honest I find it to be quite tedious in NH specifically since players are tied to profiles on the Switch. Not to mention I'd probably burn out pretty fast paying off all of those loans on 6 more characters. Lol
Four players is enough in my case (even to create more "big" houses) and I definitely want more villagers! Some are so cute, it add more life to the game! 10 is ok in NH, but two more would be great. Or more! But I'm exaggerating, I don't think we have place on our island. If it was bigger, why not!
And I used to this number. However, making choice in all villagers I may like is a torture. I abandon some of them I love because no place. To choose is to renounce..
I definitely agree with everyone who has already said that animals are what make it Animal Crossing. It’s already pretty sad to see how dialogue has gotten watered down with time, but to think back on when the whole town really felt full of animals really makes it feel all the more nostalgic. I’ve only ever shared the GameCube and Wii versions with my sister, for handhelds we’ve always had our own, and honestly since New Leaf got rid of the random empty houses for nonexistent players, I’ve never bothered with making the full amount of available players, just one or two extra as they fit the town. I’ve never had a need for 8, and like others have pointed out it’s a lot to manage. Even if 8 individual people made them, sharing the device in a way that feels fair seems like a lot to manage. So yeah for me this isn’t even a tough one, give me a whole big town full of villagers, there’s just so many it’s hard to narrow it down and this would at least give a little more room to explore them all
more villagers would be great, found it very hard to choose permanent villagers for my original island as there were a lot i really liked to start with and many more that grew on me after having them on my island awhile that it was hard to let them go.
having more player homes to decorate would be cool but i never use the max amount as it is anyway so never needed more.
I'm going to vote for "More Animals and Less Humans", but I wouldn't mind a combination of both. Make it so that if you live with only 4 humans in your town, you can have more villagers. But if you decide you want more human players, you'll have to give up a villager for each one. This way people have a choice.
I would 1000% choose the 15 villagers, i have so many characters I really wish I could fit on my island, but what would really need to happen is an increase in individual dialogue. I feel like in new horizons since there aren't many villager fetch quests, I find myself seeing the same talking pieces over and over again. Especially when I go back and play Wild World, man did they have a lot to say!
Sometimes a villager would randomly generate gossip and then ask me to weigh in on it, its super fun. I love Jeremiah and Sherb dearly but it gets exhausting to hear the 20th story about the bugs in their floor of the day sometimes.
I don't personally have any use for 8 player characters, and for whatever decorative purposes I wanted, I think four is more than enough. I'd definitely prefer four player characters and fifteen villagers.
It is helpful to have additional player characters to be able to decorate additional buildings. I think what I'd most like to see in the next AC game is more communal buildings, like Nook's Cranny, Able's, etc. I did enjoy that in HHP we could decorate certain buildings and assign villagers to them, so maybe some combination of that would be fun.
I’d love to have more villagers, though I hope they improve the dialogue since the dialogue in New Horizons just isn’t as good as New Leaf and is kinda bland. Also, I’d want them to give us significantly more storage too if the number of players we can have is reduced.
Easily more animals. Even the addition of one would absolutely change the game for me. I was excited to potentially add to my family this game after deciding to have the same villagers as new leaf because I love them, but I’m disappointed I wasn’t able to idk why you’d need 8 irl character slots. It was a weird decision from them
More villagers! I share the switch with family, and we have had some issues with island decoration and design with just the 4 of us. We ended up just dividing up the island and we each had our own area. I couldn't imagine trying to work that out with 8 people!
I'd like more villagers in general, if only to have more of the villagers i love. It can be frustrating to really like more than 10 villagers, but then have to choose which ones get to live on the island.
I don't care at all abt having more players. It's usually just gonna be me and my brother on the island.
I would love for them to bring back 15 villagers!! I have so many favs it's hard for me to just choose 10. Heck, even if I had 15 I'd still struggle LOL
