Hmm I'm from the UK and the most recent available downloadable item was the rice plant bed. I think it was available from the 1st of October so I don't know when the topknot wig was available because I think I missed it if it was available!

Er, scratch that. I misread it and didn't see the spotpass thing.

Just a quick question, does it mean you have to go to a Nintendo zone in order to be able to download the "spotpass" content?

Japan has the pumpkin pie as SpotPass DLC from October 1-20. Source

Yes. And you can only get SpotPass DLC for your region (just European SpotPass). All other region SpotPass DLCs you have to find someone here to trade with.

How does the Spotpass/Nintendo Zone thing work btw?
Sorry if I'm a noob. xD

SpotPass and Nintendozone are two different ways to get items:

To get a SpotPass item, your 3DS must be connected to the internet via wifi at home - for me at least. (Shaved Ice Lamp and Festival Lantern where delivered by mail)
To get a Nintendozone item, go to a location that has it, and it will connect to the internet automatically - like airports, McDonalds, Starbucks, BestBuy, etc. (Pumpkin Pie, Fedora Chair, Afternoon Tea Set, etc.)

I've a question
why people sometimes ask for future dlc as astrological set or kadomatsu if they are not released yet?

Because they don't know they aren't out yet. Most people don't actually look at this list (or any list) before trying to buy and sell. (Which you can tell by all the people who massively overpay for DLCs they are going to get for free, or that are re-orderable).

oh thanks! for your reply ^^

for a moment I started thinking that some of them were available through TT or other weird ways o_O
I was asking because these items are probably already encoded in the cartridge and they just needed to be unlocked

yup, that is surely how it works, but no-one has unlocked them early yet. People ask for them all the time though!

Can there maybe be other items that we don't know about?
And what happens when all those un-released items do get disturbed, is there any way for Nintendo to add new items?

Well... technically, they could add new items. Possibly. After all, this is how any game DLC works for stuff that is not already in the game's code. The reason I say possibly is that the game itself would have to support adding new content to it. Or Nintendo would have to release an update that allows the new content if it doesn't.

I kinda doubt they will though, as that would cost money for Nintendo to create a new item. Nintendo can release all of these DLCs for free because they are already in the game's code. They were created when the game itself was developed. When you are getting the DLC, you are really just unlocking access to the item. You aren't actually downloading anything new to your game.

You're correct in saying any current DLC is already in-game (ie. unlocking the content when it becomes available).
However, "technically" it's not possible to add new items or new DLC even if Nintendo did release some form of update.
This is because any "code" for the game is complied into a binary(or whatever Nintendo use) format before being published onto a cart or device; meaning no new code could ever be added to the game without it be re-compiled and re-distributed (and if it was re-compiled (which it wouldn't be), any data/progress made in the game would be lost)... Not to mention conflicts between games that have been updated with ones that haven't (for example, playing each other locally (not over an internet connection)).

So basically, any known items in the game(or any game), whether already released or not, are the only items that will ever be in the game and are programmed in from the very beginning. :)

But DLCs can be store in the SD card memory like on the Wii game. I think Nintendo disable this feature for not having HDLC like on City Folk. I think too that all available (or future available) items are already in the game and they'll not release unknown items. (All are listing in the official guide)

What spamurai says makes sense to me! I think it's all in there, and I think what we're going to see is all the different region's DLC come out to other regions eventually. I'm sure we'll get yule log, turkey etc in NA and EU this fall/winter. Eventually we'll all have everything, most likely!

Your last sentence is right, and that's exactly what I said in my post as to why we probably won't see anymore. I have to say probably, because I have no idea how Nintendo coded their game, but most likely, it was not made to accept new DLC.

However, the rest of my post is still correct. If a video game is developed to accept the ability to have new DLC in advance, it can have it, update or not, even if the content is not already found on in the game itself. This is how most video game DLC content works.

As an example, I have hundreds of songs for Rock Band (Xbox 360/PS3 game). The game was NOT originally made knowing about all of these songs. However, the game WAS programmed to look into a certain place on your hard drive and load up any song files that are found there.

Source of me knowing this? I was a video game tester for said video game (Rock Band) before I moved to Japan. And my husband was a software developer (not for a game company, but software works the same games or not) in a previous job.
