Howdy all!
I've seen a lot of talk about features coming in future updates (like Nook store upgrades, holidays, item sets etc.). So I thought I'd create a mega thread for all the speculation of what people think will be coming and what people would like to see in the future. Any confirmed update features are also welcome here!

Personally, I'm looking forward to Nook store upgrades being added. Upgrading the store was one of my favourite parts of the game.

Quality of life updates would be nice, crafting from storage, bulk crafting. I would also like to see how many uses left my tools had instead of guesstimating it. Now that I think about it, isn't the Nook Stop sorta dumb when you think about it....? We have a smart phone, why can't we unlock a very late game or even end game feature which allows you to access the Nook Stop(ATM as well) through your in game phone?

I just want to see bug fixes, a use for the dock beyond fishing, and new/returning furniture sets

Everything else is just gravy

Future Update Speculation: Fixing glitch that moves in "null" villagers after villager trades. :/

I hope the bring back bushes

A lot of people seem to think this will happen in April, when Leif comes back for the Earth Day event.
If so, I hope this doesn't mean bushes are ONLY available in April. If it is, I might need to break my promise of no buying TT'd items.

i really hope the dream suite will be available in the future - mystery island tours are fun but i’d rather have the dream suite lol

new villagers! maybe thats a bold guess butni think there were very few new ones and we may get DLC villagers or something

Ahh the dream suite! I really miss the dream suite. You could get so much inspiration from dreaming in people's towns :(

What about doing island tours with friends :(
I’ve seen someone make musical chairs out of their island but like it would be awesome to go with friends and play some fun mini games
Plus what about Kapp’n??
I’ve also been hearing rumors about a cafe in the museum

I hope, for the sake of everyone's mental health lol, that we keep our expectations on track. I personally don't see a lot of features coming back, specially those from NL. I think NH was developed with GCN and WW on mind more than what NL was, so I can see more features from those entries returning over NL.

With that being said, I'm sure plenty of NPC's will return in some form. I don't expect all of them to return as permanent residents in your island but I think many of those certainly will. I can see Brewster returning (as it has already been hinted by data miners) but I'm not sure if he'll return with The Roost as an independent building or an extension of the museum (I don't mind either case, tbh). I can see Redd coming back for sure, along with the return of forgeries and art pieces (as yet, another extension to the museum).

Harriet is a bit tricky. Based on a previous discussion with another user, I think it's more likely that she'll return as an ocasional visitor to the island with either new hairstyles/colors/makeup or (as the other user suggested), cool wigs!

Leif is confirmed to be returning to NH, so far only for Earth day. I like the idea of Leif hosting Earth day because they'll probably add more depth to that event (which was already lacking in NL and previous entries), but I don't think Leif will become a permanent resident. If that were the case, I don't think he'll be selling us any bushes or new fruit. I think he'll mostly give us items related to nature (maybe exterior furniture) and maybe DIY recipes for bush-fences.

Unless they can find an entirely new role for Pete, Phyllis and Pelly, I don't think they'll be returning to the game as updates. I'm bummed about this because they've been around since the beginning and I really liked them as characters (plus their love triangle). However, their role in AC was minimized in NL, imo. Even Phyllis characteristic mean traits were reduced to nothing and as far as I remember, their love triangle story was dismissed. The only plausible reason I can see them returning is, if somehow they'd show up for Valentine's day or something like that. Considering how much NH has been inspired on GCN, maybe they'll make a return of some sorts or maybe, bring Pete back to occasionally deliver your mail personally as in previous games.

Copper and Booker are tricky as well. I can see them coming back as buildings - a la New Leaf. However, I do feel that if they returned, they'd have to add some depth into their characters other than just being another "lost and found".

Kapp'n and Tortimer I can absolutely see coming back. I can definitely see the dock used by Kapp'n to take you to a 'special' island or Tortimer island. Wasn't Kapp'n also in the official art work or merch?

As for previous features:

I don't see Dream Town feature making a return exactly as it was in NL. I can see them, maybe, making something similar. Like, instead of going to mystery islands you can earn 'dream tickets' or 'bizarre destinations' that can take you to other user's islands a la Dream world.

I don't think swimming will make a return. I don't personally miss it, but I can't see this as a very important feature to include anytime soon, tbh.

Multiplayer island is something that I can see return in some format. We might not get an island per se, but maybe they'll add more features to play along in your own lands.

This is a super interesting analysis! Do you have any thoughts on addition of furniture sets and missing items?

I just hope more NPC show up, let me get scammed by Redd please. :lemon:

NH is a bit odd when it comes to items. By the looks of it, there's not a lot of items included in the game and most of them are more "realistic" items and not as goofy/extravagant as previous ones. I can see them including sets, for sure (I mean, we know festivity sets will be coming). I can also see them (or maybe they're in game already, I dunno), seasonal sets (winter, spring, autumn, summer specific items; I think we've seen some icy ones from the trailers, perhaps those are hinting towards those specific kinds of sets).

I can see them adding specific sets that are, apparently, absent from the game and I can also see them returning through other characters (like Gracie selling Gracie specific sets or maybe Label). It's hard to tell just how much more items they'll add considering we've yet to see an extensive list of all items present in the game.

Oi, I made one of those threads! Why's there got to be another?

I'm really hoping there's going to be monthly new stuff? I've kind of been planning out what could come back for those but I'm going under the assumption that we'll get the next month's stuff during the third week of the month, going by the fact that the Leif DLC seems to be coming sometime around mid-April... hopefully it also adds the region-specific holidays back in too, given Mother's Day mostly happens in May outside of Europe.

But, so far, I'm assuming museum stuff is going to happen soonish, at least before the summer given Redd's a fireworks NPC in the N64/GameCube games and New Leaf.

Tortimer Island and all its related stuff is going to be a summer update along with fireworks displays and, if we're REALLY lucky, Morning Aerobics.

Mario furniture's going to be added in September as part of the 35th anniversary of Mario, like what Happy Home Designer did for the 30th. No idea when the rest of the Nintendo furniture is going to be added, tho.

Each update will also probably come with an additional Nook store upgrade, given how Nook's Cranny only upgrades once into Bigger Nook's Cranny atm. I also feel this is how the alpacas, Gracie and Harriet are going to return, but later on in the year maybe?

Also I feel next April's going to have a load of Animal Crossing-related furniture items added to the game, like how Welcome Amiibo added in a lot of LGTTC's AC-related DLC furniture for the 15th anniversary.

Aside from these general guesses... idk what's going to be added.

They need to update the oarfish animation. He’s looking a little... stiff.

I am personally hoping that more furniture gets added in aside from the "realistic" items, because what we have right now really limits my creative freedom in creating the town I originally wanted to make. I am crossing my fingers that all the sets (aside from the 5 super basic ones that are already in the game) will make their return. I really miss the regal and rococo sets and will be HUGELY disappointed if they've just been flat out CUT. Honestly, collecting furniture sets was one of my absolute favorite things in New Leaf...and what we've been given so far in this game (both Nooklings furniture and all the ugly crafting furniture) just ain't doing it for me.

I hope the visitor cutscene will be skipable by then.

This cutscene exists to mask necessary load times. It’s a new and improved loading screen, not an arbitrary feature. I can’t imagine a way to skip it.

Please just give me island games with friends. This is the first Switch game where I can load up the game and find 5 of my friends also playing it, just give me multiplayer games!
