General tips for newbies? ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

Standard advice I give to anyone that's new to this game:

- Press B to run
- Tap A twice while crafting to speed it up

Came to say the same thing! I was months into the game before I realised I could press B to run. I always wondered why my friends would get around faster than me 😂

I think it took my sister like 3 months before I told her & I know the advice has helped many others which is why I will keep repeating it  It's got to take ages to walk everywhere and craft stuff slowly... People are probably just a lot more patient than I am haha

Wood (compared to hardwood/softwood) is used in a lot of good DIY recipes, so hold onto it!

sell your fruit, and if you have friends that play with a different type of native fruit, be sure to take one for yourself to plant in your island! non-native fruits sell for a bit more than your native fruit so it’s good to have an easily accessible variety!

here's some things that i wish i knew when i had first started out, but didn't end up finding out until much later 🖤
  • wasps can fall out of hardwood trees as well as cedar trees. in total each day 5 can be shaken down. if you have a net at the ready in your hands, you can catch the wasps before they sting you - i didn't know this until i was well into a few months of game-time
  • each day you can shake 2 furniture items from your hardwood and cedar trees; like the wasps spawns they're random
  • you can hit the rocks that spawn on your island for a total of 8 times before it's done giving you materials, but you need to hit it consistently. an easy way to achieve this is to place fances or dig holes (there's youtube videos if you're more interested in getting the most harvest from your rocks)
  • if you want the most out of some easy nook miles, always visit resident services to use the kiosk every day. it's an easy way to keep the nook miles rolling in
  • you can use the customization kits purchased from the nooks cranny on most of your tools to 'renew' their breakage %. every day before i do my daily routines, i customize my shovel and net so that they don't break and i can ensure that i'm not having to run back somewhere to craft or buy another. (this is just a handy tid-bit if you like a specific tool design and want to keep it. i find buying the kits are better than making the tools or buying the tools, but it's completely up to you and your preferences)
  • balloons will disappear if you enter a building before popping it

that basically sums up a lot of the stuff that i know now, but wish i knew when i first started. happy playing!

don't sell materials other than weeds. collect all materials from rocks every day, you'll need it very soon.

plant any fruit you get that isn't the one you started with, they're worth way more than your starter fruit.

to get high star level (you will need to improve your island to progress in the game) you need few weeds, a lot of flowers, to put down at least 50 fences, get more villagers, have the right amount of trees (you will get feedback on how many you have, so don't cut them all down with an iron axe! use a stone axe to collect resources), have inclines and bridges, and a lot of furniture put outside.
my advice is: ask tom nook what to do and do what he tells you to. clean up your island, pick up weeds, collect resources to complete the tasks you are given, plant flowers (yes they will get annoying once you have too many, but breeding flowers for hybrids is fun!) and place any furniture you find that you don't want to keep in your house outside. it will help when you need to raise your star level.

one major thing I wish I could tell my past self when starting the game is to not buy a bunch of hybrid flowers online in the beginning, and wait until your island is at least 50% completed and buy in small bursts only. I went way over board on flowers last spring and ended up having to sell more than half to Nook's Cranny because they were overtaking my island and such a pain to move every time I needed to clear an area out to terraform/design.

if you see a glowing spot on the ground, dig it up and you'll get 1k bells. after that you can replant the 1k or even plant 10k and you'll get 3x the amount planted.

this only works up to like 30k tho. trying to plant 90k will not yield 90k*3. It's best to just plant 10k.

also, don't cover up the glowing hole because you won't be able to... un-cover it

Upgrade your house (storage), you'll need it faster than you think.

If you accidentally do something, just reset quickly before the auto save feature kicks on (accidentally selecting move for a villager dialogue, accidentally clicking on the wrong thing to give to a villager, etc). Home screen button then press X to end the game (also good to know for if you have someone over for a trade and if they try to do something or take something...you can reset before it saves).

If going on islands, make sure your tools are new and keep your bags empty otherwise for gathering materials.

Always use the search function regardless of what forums you're on to see what averages people are trading for items you want (also make sure you're looking for recent posts to gauge prices not prices from months ago). That way you aren't worrying about paying something ridiculously large for something or offering something extremely low.

There's actually a 30% chance of tripling anything over 10k. So planting up to 99k bags really does work.

However, 30% is not a good risk in the long run. To prove this, I wrote a simple simulation to show you what you can make with x amount of bells over x amount of time vs just using 10k bags.
