Alright so I'm starting to use GIMP so I can make animated signatures, because y'know peeps want that shizzle.

Problem is I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE F I'M DOING like I need help cuz I'm a n00b and don't know this stuff. This thread will probably have lots of questions that I could easily find through Google buuuut I'm too lazy for that.

First question is, how do I remove the background of an image? I used PSP8 to expand/feather a sprite, but when I open the sprite in GIMP it has the white background. When I select the background to delete it IT WON'T GO AWAY. Normally I have to promote the layer to a raster or whatevs but I dunno how to do that here.

Also, is there a way to apply the same layer to each frame of the animation? Y'know, so the sprites aren't sliding around from being in slightly different positions?

Any help would greatly be appreciated. c:

I haven't used it in a while

instead of adding text, just edit the pictures/ text you want in psp and paste as a selection/ layer?

maybe I'm not helpful?

in gimp, the villager sprites come out transparent for me so idk
but, maybe its the way you saved it?

You'll probably have to render it. Did you start out with a transparent BG?

My sprites are saved in .png format so idk ;-;

Well in my PSP program I rendered it like always, but when I save it it has a white background which I don't know why it wouldn't stay a render. It only stays transparent if I save it as a .psp file but that can only be opened by PSP so I have no idea.

No idea why I can't just render it in GIMP though.

i know im a terrible person lemme pull up gimp and frick around with it for awhile ;v;

I have no idea what issue you're having.
Is it that when you save in psp, it gains a white background, or is it when you open it in gimp it gains a white background?

I'm sorry I have no answer. I need help too.

Is this what happens?

Both, actually. The only time the sprite stays transparent is when I save it as a .psp, which GIMP obviously can't open.

I can't get the white background to go away and it's tinted blue for some reason, but the tint might be because of the frames (it's a gif).

gimp messes up gifs. it never opens them right. ever.
It may be that you're trying to paste a sprite on a gif.
Yes, that means animation won't work.
