When four gentlemen were asked by the Corneria Military Medical Center’s Psychological Team to describe Rex Krowe, who performed their incoming health checks upon their arrival at the ward, this is what they had to say.
“A hard-working and respectable young lady. If she would have been around when I was a youngin’, we’d all be in better health!”
“She’s cool, I think. She gets a little mad at Fox when he gets hurt, but she doesn’t get mad at the rest of us.”
“Oh, her? She’s OK, I guess. I’d have a lot nicer things to say if she’d stop calling me a damn birdbrain.”
“Nursey? She’s deceiving. You go in and see this sweet looking girl and her cute smile, but get her worked up and you’re in for some real spice.”
I’d say that these are accurate terms to describe Rex Krowe. Much beloved by her patients and colleagues alike, she shines with a caring attitude and an independent nature. Born to an upper-middle class teacher of a mother and an unknown father on the small, snowy planet by the name of Capulet not far from the Lylat system, Madeleine Krowe, who much prefers her nickname of “Rex” was known for her odd combination of a loving, gentle spirit and her tomboyish, fiery wit. She’s always been a girl who responded to kindness with kindness, but once she saw injustice, her sharp tongue would reveal itself. Any self-respecting person knew to stay on young Madeleine’s good side, lest she lash out at them. Born a bit on the sickly side, this bright young lady knew from a young age that the medical field, much to her mother’s dismay, was her destiny. Growing up in a small town not far from Capulet’s (admittedly small) military base, a military hospital was her dream. Through rigorous studies, borrowing nearly every single medical book and essay from the local library that she could, and filling multiple spiral notebooks with notes and diagrams, she was accepted into a notoriously difficult training facility at the age of sixteen, which is nothing short of an achievement. Her hard-working spirit was in full bloom for the two years of training she and her fellow trainees endured, and in the end it paid off when she graduated with top marks. Leaving home was always a desire of hers, so she was overjoyed when after her graduation, she was a highly sought after medic, places that she’d never even heard of offering her a job! After careful consideration and quite a lot of back-and-forth conversation with General Pepper, she had her sights set on Corneria. At the age of eighteen, she left her hometown behind, never planning on looking back.
Being the only human in a land of strange creatures was quite the culture shock for the young woman, but nonetheless she adapted and immediately went to work. Though starting off doing only nurse duties (she takes great offense to being called a nurse, she much prefers being called a medic or even a doctor, though she sports no degree), she was able to climb the career ladder relatively quickly and does a plethora of duties, though, to be honest, her favorites are the ones that involve gore, such as caring for severe injuries or even doing surgeries. Hey, it’s just her field of interest. Everyone has their…quirks.
As for the Star Fox team, Rex has met them on several occasions, mainly when they come to Corneria to report to the general or need some kind of medical attention. Being rather close to General Pepper herself, she’s often assigned to them. Though she and a certain bird have a friendship based mostly off of banter and empty insults, she gets along well with all of them. However, a rumor has been circulating around the ward…that the head medic has fallen for a strong, spirited fox with a bit of an attitude. After all, Rex is relatively good with teasing and jokes, but when it’s Fox, she gets red in the face and is known to be a bit pissy with him. Rex has heard the rumors and, of course, vehemently denies them, asking what evidence her colleagues have and how biology doesn’t allow their species to be attracted to each other (at this, the Psychological Team would like to point out that Rex said “attracted to each other,” also trying to deny the possibility that he would be into her), but at this point, no one believes her excuses. They dare not tease her about it, though. They prefer to keep their mental wellbeing.
