Happy Home Designer - Frequently Asked Questions (Got a question? Look here!)

You can choose the size of the house when you're first consulting with the villager in the office, before the deco-fun starts. You'll be able to choose from a variety of room sizes and configurations. If you later decide that you want to change the number of rooms, you can go back and re-design the house.

If I can find a good post out there in internetland that shows the various configs, I'll update this post here.

UPDATE: The incomparable TBT forum user Jinglefruit has a couple of tumblr posts about room layouts. (Their tumblr is absolutely worth checking out for lots of HHD antics, play, and delightfulness.)

Thanks you're the best! I'll check it out! Really looking forward to this game now :D

Hi :]. Can all of the special characters be unlocked without having their amiibo card? Sorry if that has already been asked/answered; I didn't see it if was.

Yw! If you're interested in seeing some HHD gameplay, v3lla will be livestreaming HHD on twitch tonight at 7 PST (10 EST). She has a Japanese copy of the game and speaks some Japanese, and is playing through with English commentary. Do a search for 'v3lla' on twitch and you'll find her.

Heya you! Unfortunately, the only way to unlock special characters in order to design their homes is using amiibo cards.

So that's the catch. I was wondering how they'd get people to buy the cards if you can unlock every villager even without them; and I was kind of hoping there was a way to unlock the special characters without the card. I've spent way too much money on Magic the Gathering cards and was hoping that the money required to be spent on this game would be minimal ><

It's not really required but if you want them the option is there. The game looks perfectly playable with or without special npcs

Yea, there aren't any important items locked behind NPC characters so far that we know of (except things like photographs, and a few one off pieces), so I would have to agree that the game is totally fine without the amiibo cards - they're just designed to make the game easier.

I think the only thing that worries me about HHD is DLC. We already know the Japanese game has some 7/11 DLC (to include some new items that weren't in New Leaf!) and some upcoming Monster Hunter DLC. I really want the 7/11 DLC, as it's always useful when making stores. It was Japan-only for New Leaf but people were able to get it through trading.

I guess no word whether they'll release ALL of the DLC outside of Japan yet? It'll also be hard for people who don't buy the game at release - if there's no online play, then you can easily miss some of the DLC permanently.

I honestly had hoped there wouldn't be any DLCs for this. :/ Before I joined these forums, I felt the same way about some of the DLC furniture that I saw and really wanted; for example, the 7-11 set. I was in love with the set when I first saw it and yet, there was no way for me to get it without joining forums and trading and I wasn't comfortable at the time at asking people to trade since I didn't have anything to offer for something like that.

Is there and ending, if so can you play after the ending? Thanks.

Yes

After you finish the town buildings, such as the hospital, hotel, school, etc. the credits will roll indicating you have "beat" the game. The game continues however so you can keep decorating and upgrading homes/buildings and such

The Monster Hunter DLC might have a chance of being released, but probably not for a while outside of Japan, because it's a promotion for the new game coming out next month, I believe. I doubt the 7-11 DLC will be released outside of Japan. Basically, the 7-Eleven DLC is a promotion to get people to go into the convenience store. It can only be downloaded if you go to a 7-Eleven store with Wi-Fi. Because 7-Eleven is a franchise, each international branch may or may not have Wi-Fi service available, making it unfair for certain regions. So, unfortunately, I doubt this will be available elsewhere.

The above posts re: DLC and the Qs about interacting with other players made me imagine how cool it would be if Nintendo introduced the ability for people to invite another player to guest-design a room plan for them, which could be transferred either via a wi-fi "letter" or "shipment", including all the needed furniture. You could indicate you wanted to re-design a villager's room using the special shipment, which would appear in the room as a giant box. Click on the box and *zing*--insta-room! It'd be a great way to transfer furniture.

Does this game have hourly music like the main games?

Hello! The game doesn't work on a real-time clock like the regular AC games, so it doesn't have hourly music. It does have instance-based musical themes, though. There's default designing music, for example, that plays when you're designing a villager's home (until you put in a music player, at which point you can choose a KK song to play). There's another default design song when you're designing a public building like the school or a shop. And the main street music itself changes at certain points, when you've designed a certain number of public buildings.

I've read that you don't need the cards to play because villagers will still show up in your game and you can just decorate the houses of the villagers that show up. Does that mean that you can get the same villagers as the cards that way (and that the cards just give you more control, and the other options like parties and special characters) or are the villagers that randomly show up different from the ones that get cards? Does anyone know?

Another question: do the villagers have dialogue besides telling you whether they like the house and what items to use?

Besides special characters and DLC, it seems like you can get all of the normal villagers in-game. However, we only know what 1/4th of the cards are at this point, so there may be some in the game that aren't on cards, or vice versa.

You can talk to villagers whose houses you've made on the Main Street, but it's not dialogue like in ACNL. Just very basic "I like my house! The town is nice!" type stuff.

You've got it! You can play without the cards and villagers that show up in your main street will include villagers found on the amiibo cards, but will also include villagers NOT on an amiibo card at present. (The only exception is special NPCs, like Isabelle, Pascal, etc.--they won't show up on your main street as clients. You have to summon any special NPCs by using an amiibo card to deco their homes.)

There are going to be several series of cards (4, I believe), so not all villagers are available on amiibo cards right now. Each series will be 100 cards. You can see the complete first series here on Nintendo Japan's website. Any villager not included in the first series will likely be included in subsequent series (though we won't know for sure until those series are released). Right now, the only way to obtain regular villagers not included in the first series of cards is if they show up in your main street. Someone has posted a bunch of pix on imgur, showing all of the villagers they've unlocked through random appearances on main street.

In terms of dialogue, it'd be awesome if someone currently playing can weigh in on this, but villagers do have additional dialogue. It does seem to be focussed on the location they're in and their role, however. For example, if you run into Phoebe in the school building, she'll talk to you about something school-related. The dialogue in that case would be dependent on whether she's a student or teacher--you'd get different dialogue in each case. If you see Phoebe on the main street, she might talk about how great it is that the town is growing. In the department store, she might talk to you about shopping or the item she's looking at, and in the restaurant she'd say different things depending on whether she's a diner, a server, the cashier or a chef. I don't know what additional things they might say (if anything) if you go back to visit their home once you've designed it.

ETA: yay mirukushake! Thanks!

Hope that helps somewhat!

Thanks, I totally forgot about talking them inside the buildings! Yeah, as you said, the dialogue is totally dependent on what role they're in in the community building. Also, you can't talk to characters in their home: talking to them in their home just gives you the option to redesign or rebuild their house.

Thank you, Voluptua Sneezelips and mirukushake! That's good to know and I'm glad I won't need the cards to decorate for the villagers I like best. That's disappointing about the dialogue, though :(
