So in the spanish twitter, someone created the hashtag #tuiteacomounhetero wich translates to #tweetlikeastraight

and those tweets, like you can expect, are full of hatred towards straight people, generalising and calling them homophobes and masclists... and still people get it as a joke.

but we all know if the hashtag was something like "tweetlikeanhomo" people would get really mad and acuse people as homophobes...

Now I'm not really talking about cisphobia heterophobia or things like that (it's your belief if you think it exists or not) (and I also made a thread about it wich didnt end good so...)

but hate in general...

In this case (it is an assumption, though) LGBT+ is making fun of straight people, is that okay?

yes, it's a fact that the LGBT community is a minority and I'm not dismissing the fact it gets opressed by mostly straight people (I'm not denying either that you can hate their sexuality by being LGBT too) but I'm kind of focusing in "first world problems" such as making fun or critisizing

So now my question is something like "Is it okay to hate majorities or denying the fact?"

IMO, hate is something common that everyone has, so, I wouldn't say hating at all is bad? Or at least disliking something, cause the motive they have for hating can be more or less "acceptable" like a women who dislikes men because she got bad experiences with them or a guy who dislikes black people because he was taught like that... But, even though I think hate is something "normal" I'm obviously against any hate crimes, like murder, bullying, etc. I believe that hate should be left as an opinion, and people could attempt to change the opinion, but if the person doesnt want to, I don't think it's okay to make him feel bad for it.

For example someone who hates gay people for whatever reason, no, they don't bully gay people, they don't attack gay people, they just dislike them, they can have gay friends but they will dislike their choice (I don't want to debate if sexuality is a choice or not so just ignore that). Do you think it would be okay to despise him for it?

Okay. As you see, this is for real, a thread wich isnt bait and you can see I put effort into so I wouldnt like it to go to waste, so please, be polite with each other

When a lgbt person 'hates' straight/cis people it rarely has the same affect. I mean, how many people have been constantly bullied, kicked out of their homes, feared for their lives, etc. for being straight? At the end of the day these tweets are really just pointless jokes, it'd say it's pretty easy to shrug them off, it isn't that easy for lgbt people who have to deal with this stuff and worse on a regular basis. I can't really speak on the behalf of a straight/cis person, but as a white person, 'white people jokes' and similar hashtags directed toward white people don't offend or upset me in the slightest, and i definitely wouldn't call them hate or bullying, not even close. I'm sure straight people can still sleep at night after a few joke tweets

As for the part on whether 'despising' someone who "just hates gay people" is reasonable I'd say yes. If someone hates me just for existing, I'm not going to be fond of them.

It depends what these kinds of tweets were. If they were deeply offensive, I could see what the problem here is, but if they're really not anything bad then I can see where they're coming from considering that this stuff is to be expected on the internet.

But as you said, "joke tweets"... when does the joke stop being funny? I mean, I can particullary relate with this and I've been told several times a joke can be offensive...

And I think I used the wrong word so sorry q.q I didnt mean hate gay people but morelike dislike their choice

I like how you try to actually open a dialogue about this but instead everyone just focuses on the "OMG OF COURSE GAY PEOPLE CNA'T HATE STRAIGHT PEOPEL LOL XD JOKE JOKE JOKE"

What "choice"

If someone doesn't like gay people because they think they made a "choice" about something that literally affects no one but themselves they can kiss my gay ass. Whether you word it as "hate" or "dislike" it's still homophobic.

I like how people like this are also the same ones who go "lol ppl choose to be offended over EVERYTHING!!!! XD SORRY DID I TRIGGER YOU"

It's very interesting to say the least.

the thing lies in the systematic oppression of lgbt+ people.

if gay ppl had never been oppressed for being gay there wouldnt be a difference between #talklikestraightpeople and #talklikegaypeople

but that's not the case and being upset and talking about it like "but if it was the other way around !!!" is just weird and ignoring the oppression of lgbt+ people. it is not the other way around. you know why? #talklikestraightpeople doesn't affect straight ppl to the point where they commit suicide, get thrown out of their homes, get bullied, get beaten, get fired, get murdered etc for being straight.
i haven't read the tag but i can bet, like, idk a lot of money or w/e that it's not hatred towards straight people.

it is most likely filled w/ stuff like the harold meme, straight ppl's homophobia, their awkwardness about gay ppl and stuff like that.

straight people who want to do the whole "But what if it was the other way around ???????" thing are ignorant af

To me the joke stops being funny when it affects people outwith the joke itself. For example if a straight person reads tweets from that hashtag, they can simply log out off twitter and forget about it. Hate towards straight people pretty much only exists online, it's very easy to avoid.

wow it must be so hard to be straight and have one Twitter tag in Spanish being so mean.

the poor oppressed straight ppl

I know, the poor things, they can't go a day without someone yelling at them " HA! STRAIGHT! "

They have been oppressed for years and murdered for being a different sexuality. ;;

Seriously though, straight people need to shut up.

Legit question.

I'm gay. I'm also cis and white. Am I allowed to hate against ethnic minorities due to the systematic oppresion of lgbt+ people, or does my white and cisness override that ability?

Fill me in though, what's the harold meme?

https://twitter.com/hashtag/talklikestraightpeople?f=tweets

apparently not a thing

the harold meme is about when (specifically straight, old) ppl assume two lesbians are Great Friends :^) instead of gfs

and with the hate thing uh ??????? what

ofc you can be racist if that's what you mean??? and people of colour have more to say in issues regarding them, but u, as a gay person, has more to say abt gay issues than a cishet person of colour. like idk what you meant really..??

but, like, no you're nto allowed to oppress ppl because you're gay. but you don't benefit from homophobia, you're a victim of it.. im bad at explaining aa sorry

Is it weird if I thought this thread's title was referring to the hate in Donald Trump's campaign?
