Curious if there are others feel the same, but I sometimes would want a villager for no particular reason other than their name, either because the villager shares the same name as friends or family members irl, or remind me of a cartoon/book characters/celebrities that I like.. (for this reason I will always have a soft spot for Benedict the chicken because...lol I like Benedict Cumberbatch) ; Likewise, I've also purposely stayed away from certain villagers either because their names are questionable (ex: angus for a bull?) or because they are the same as certain someone irl that I prefer not to be reminded of.
Do you have a villager that you wanted/shunned just because of their name?
Not in ACNH, but in ACNL I was making a bird-themed town and I was considering Queenie... but I just couldn't bring myself to invite her because her name reminded me of a really annoying student I taught a few years earlier. I thought about inviting Louie to my island because he shares the same name as my beagle (even though there's zero resemblance to her other than the name aha) but I have no room for another jock.
I avoid villagers with the same name as family members or people I know like the plague.
I dont want to be reminded of them constantly when playing the game.
There are actually a couple of cool villagers I would otherwise love that I now dislike due to that.
I actually found Tybalt due to his name.
I did not know who the villager was and was listening to a villager hunt livestream when they said Tybalt was on the island.
Being a fan of the character Tybalt it got my interest and I looked at my phone.
My love for the villager is because of them and not their name however. After all,

The only no from me based on name is if I ever got Apollo, I would prob move him away as soon as I could, every time I hear him I think of Apollo Creed and all the Rocky movies I watched. (Not the garbage new Creed movies about his son, I dislike those a lot haha.)
Then I can’t take him seriously anymore as I think of him as an animal crossing version of Apollo Creed, just in a grumpy eagle form.
I love the name Olivia, so I really wanted Olivia on my island. She’s my favorite because of her name, but also I like villagers with the music hobby and I like her house interior.
I used to have guinea pigs named Rosie and Poppy, and I may invite those two villagers at some point.
I have never gone after a villager just based on name related to a person who exists in real life I like villagers who have names that fit with their species or design in some way. If there was a villager who shared the same name as my boyfriend I would probably get that villager because Im a big mush but such a villager does not currently exist.

Nope. If I'm going to not like a villager it will most like be due to a combination of appearance, personality type and living space. For example, Elise moved into my town. I liked that name because it reminded me of a character from the Fire Emblem series. Then when I saw her, I wasn't too thrilled....but I didn't have a snooty character at that time and her house was decent, so I wasn't in any hurry to get rid of her.
I haven't sought out a villager for their name specifically (looks & character attachment trump naming), though an appealing name is always nice. I would avoid villagers based on their name in certain circumstances though...Biskit and Bea, the dog villagers, I would probably force out if I ever got them on my island. Not because I dislike them, but they share a name and nickname with my dog who recently passed, and being reminded of her every day during my "Animal Crossing & chill" time would hurt.
there are definitely some names i don't like (judy, megan, chelsea) for personal reasons but i like the villager's appearance / home / personality combination enough that it's not enough to completely shun the idea of having them on my island if the opportunity presented itself. i guess if a villager had my exact name it'd be a different story but i don't think that will ever happen lol.
The only villager I don't like for their name is Henry (because the only Henry I ever knew was a jerk). It's kind of unfortunate because I think Henry (the frog) is super cute and he has such a cool house.
As for wanting a villager due to their name, it has to be Elmer for me. For those who don't know, Elmer is a glue company and glue used to be made from horses, so Elmer's name is so darkly funny to me for that reason. Combined with his sleepy face, he really won me over and now he's a permanent member of my town. I like to think I saved him from getting auctioned off.

I think its funny how Gwen is a penguin so her name is a play on her species. The funny thing is that we have a neighbor in real life that's name is Gwen and she has a personalized license plate on her car that says "pengwen" So to answer your question no I don't ever seek out a villager based on their name but there are some names I perfer over others
Fortunately, there's no villager named Monica that I know of -I just discovered that Audie's name in another language is Monica x'( Ew. At least I don't play in that language- as that is the name of a childhood bully and would hate to be reminded of that as I play but other than that I can't say that I personally seek out or avoid villagers based on names.
Not saying which one, but there is a villager whose name is a variation of my last name so I thought that was pretty cool. I also wanted Bubbles at one point because I find a hippo being named Bubbles funny and cute.
None of the villagers have my first name , or the names of any of my irl friends. (Special characters not included.) There is one villager that I share my middle name with, but that doesn’t factor into how I feel about them.
