I think I've only had freeze dried durian snacks from Miniso. They shouldn't be as intense as a fresh Durian. They tasted quite fine, I'd eat them again. I wouldn't necessarily buy a fresh durian but if someone offered it to me, I'd taste. I'm not 100% sure though, maybe I've had some fresh durian and I just forgot lol
I can't say I've had durian. It always looks like an odd fruit to me and I never knew it had a weird, gas like smell to it. Normally things that smell bad I tend to stay away from, so I probably won't try it. o:
My sis bought me one that was in this Thai style dessert and it tasted like curry diahorrea... Yuck! (⌓︎⍢︎⌓︎〣)
I know the fresh one will taste like custard though! So I'll try a fresh one someday!!! I know that I'm destined to love it!

I don't think I can buy them anywhere in my country as no one seems to import them. I've heard about their smell though, and knowing that kinda puts me off since I'm sensitive to smell lol. But I'd still be keen to try it someday!
Sadly, my coworker was sick on Dec 30th so we had to postpone. I asked and they said they don't know when they'll buy another so it looks like I'm on my own! I'll check the asian grocery store we have in our city and see if I can find one there to try myself!!
So we haven't purchased the actual fruit as it costs like $30 here so that's to come once a sale hits lol.
BUT.
In the meantime, my coworker bought mochi desserts with a durian filling. Still on the more expensive side as apparently this fruit is pricey.
There was nothing dessert about this. It was frozen mochi with the filling. Now I don't like mochi much on a good day due to the texture but because this was frozen, it was a bit better. Nothing smelled from the outside but once you took a bite, oh my god, the smell just leaked out.
I totally get why people assume gas leaks from the smell. It legit smells like a gas leak or a skunk or something similar. It tastes like that smell too! I managed a second bite but that was it. It began tasting like the above but with added onions. My one coworker said it tasted like burnt rubber which is accurate also.
Very interesting and I was surprised that the taste lived up to the crazy expectations! Burps came up afterward throughout the day, bringing back the taste so it was like I couldn't escape lol. But anyways, there's a little taste test until we get the real thing!
I have never tried it, but knew about it before animal crossing because my parents lived in Singapore for 2 years where it is popular, and they would see (and smell) it at outdoor food markets! They told me it did smell bad, but I don't remember if they liked the taste or not.
i?ve never tried one and i don?t believe i?ve ever seen one in-stores, but i have heard a lot of stories of how bad it smells lmao and so i probably wouldn?t be able to stomach it
I’m not surprised by the price, since the only one I’ve ever seen in a grocery store (south-west US) cost $50! Granted, it was much bigger than I’d expected—about the size of a baby! A prickly, kinda sickly looking baby. I was disappointed it was too expensive to eat xD
