Homemade cakes have sentimental value, but store-bought cakes can be impressive looking. Which do you prefer on your birthday?

Either one. Is there an option for both? Lol. I don’t really care which one it is as long as the cake tastes good (since let’s be honest, no one eats cake for the nutritional value).

Store bought since I will burn my house. If someone else made it, I will gladly accept it. I voted store bought since they have that manufactured feel. :3

Homemade.

I love pavlova, though it doesn't go too well with diabetes, but I have enough insulin to allow myself a little slice on my birthday.

Topped with fresh fruit and filled with cream.

My favorite, and only real cake type thing I like.

Most cake is too dry.

It depends! As someone who made a cake from scratch recently, it can be tough to get the levels just right.
Just about every store bought cake I have had has been really delicious while being perfectly moist and having a nice salt counter. The decorating part is not really difficult for me or something I worry too much about.

I often bake them myself but store bought ones are good too! I dont have much of a preference

I tend to buy the boxed mixes and use those when baking cakes or brownies. It simply seems faster and easier than going through the process of making it all from scratch. I tend to make all other baked goods from scratch though. I never buy the pre-made baked goods from store bakeries.

It doesn't really matter to me, but as someone who doesn't cook or bake, I will always choose store-bought. If someone makes me a home-made cake, I will happily enjoy it, though. The decorating really isn't that important to me. It's all about the taste.

However, I haven't had a cake for my birthday in a very long time. We usually go out for a birthday dinner, so I may or may not order dessert at the restaurant depending on how I feel.

I honestly don't like cake all that much, but I do prefer homemade, as my mother is an amazing kitchen Wizard. She knows how to make it really tasty!
Store-bought usually has so much sugar that it makes my teeth hurt :(

I voted 'Store-bought', and I mean by that: "super expensive European cakes". The kind I couldn't make myself. However, since I can't afford those, I should have answered homemade :\. I usually dislike cakes with fondant and icing, I can tolerate chocolate cupcakes once in a while but not too much.

I don't really like cakes let alone very few but yeah, definitely home-made so you know what's in it.

Store bought cakes always look better but they come off too sweet for me because of how much goes into the decorating. Prefer to have more cake than icing!

Definitely homemade. We used to make German Chocolate cake for my Papa for his birthday every year until he passed away. It was his favorite.

So, homemade cakes really hold a special place in my heart for that specific reason c:

Although, it doesn't matter much to me because I'm a huge foodie...

I don't care either way. Having someone give me a cake is just sweet!

Homemade for sure! The experience is more rewarding and you can get as creative as you'd like with it, not to mention you have total control of how much and what goes into the ingredients, meaning minimizing sugar and chemicals or mix and match flavors.

Store made cake isn't bad if you're running low on time, though.

Homemade cakes baked by my mother! She's a fabulous baker (and cook)!

as long as it tastes good i have no preference. but the amount of cream and stuff in shop bought cakes can be a bit overwhelming, im happy with a standard chocolate cake or smth

I think they can both be really good, but don't really like icing or very sweet cakes so that's more of the deciding factor for me. It also depends if store bought includes nicer bakeries or only grocery stores

i love baking a cake with a friend every year for my birthday or some years they just bake me cakes, it holds a lot more value that way and generally it tastes nicer. Also, since i am lactose intolerant, its a lot healthier for me to bake my own cake with lactose free milk, cream and margarine :)
