I like spooky things.
I assume you like spooky things.
Let's talk about spooky things.

I wanna read some spooky stuff. Horror is my favourite genre of film and I do enjoy a good read. Do you guys have any recommendations for horror films and books/stories? I'm currently trying to find the Poughkeepsie Tapes. I need my horror fix! :(

Have you seen It Follows? In my opinion it was the best made horror film in a really long time, super psychological and just really really creepy. As for books I wouldn't know, but I do write an awful lot of them, they just aren't ready for human eyes yet...

I agree, It Follows is effectively a unsettling movie. Ouija origin of Evil was surprisingly not bad. I recommend "Get Out" as well. Ju-On/ the grudge (the original Japanese) is probably my favorite horror movie. As for reading, I don't have any book recommendations. But, r/nosleep isn't bad. I find most of the top posts to be satisfyingly creepy

the shinning and nightmare on elm street are personal favorites. the shinning is suspenseful and while noes is not that scary (in my opinion), the gore factor makes it worth while

Get out was super good! Don't know why it skipped my mind. Wasn't a big fan on Ouija tho. :/ The Visit was pretty good too, scared the crap out of my boyfriend.

I haven't, but I looked at the trailer and it looks really good! I'll definitely check it out. Thank you :)

I used to watch and read a lot of horror stories but I haven't seen very many recent ones. Cabin in the Woods was pretty good if you haven't seen that. And I'm not sure if it's considered a fantasy or horror (maybe both?) but Pan's Labyrinth is also very good and quite creepy.

Nosleep is the place to go! It's a thing on reddit where people post creepy stories, and then people in the comments have to act like the writer is telling the truth and it actually happened lol. Not all of them are good though. I recommend only going for the highest rated ones.

This is by far the best one though imo...really creepy!

Reading SCPs is a great way to tickle your horror itch too. Again not all of them are great but the top rated ones are creepy AF.

What's that o:?? I haven't heard of it!

*rubs hands together* you're speaking my language here. I always go on a horror binge before halloween so I can get in the spirit! I mainly watch vintage horror and sci-fi movies, but love modern ones too!

Movies you've probably seen before/already know about:

My favorite movie (not just horror movie) ever, of all time is the sixth sense. A little basic I know, but I can't help it. Every time I watch I find something new to appreciate. I could watch it over and over again and never get tired of it. (I watched it back to back once and could have done it a third time)

I also love Signs. Not Quite as good but definitely really suspenseful and awesome. One of my favorites. (I like Shymalan before his fall from grace)

The Conjuring. A modern classic. Scared my dad who watched it in the middle of the day.

Psycho.Rear Window. Basically anything Alfred Hitchcock.

Invasion of the body snatchers. Both the 1956 and 1978 versions. (I kind of prefer the 1978 version just because I feel like it's more suspenseful and Leonard Nimoy is in it)

The Twilight Zone (tv series) One of my favorite shows of all time. I've seen nearly every episode. They're not always scary but they're very thought provoking and hard-hitting with creepy and sci-fi themes. My favorite episodes include: The eye of the beholder, Nightmare at 20,000 feet, Living Doll, Five Characters in search of an exit, and Where is everybody?

Onto more obscure recommendations:

The Uninvited 1944: One of my favorite horror movies ever made. A haunted house movie with an excellent plot and several great twists. Plus an extremely satisfying ending

The Haunting 1963. I ADORED this movie. It's actually horrifying, especially considering older horror films don't always hold their scare factor. But this one truly shocked and surprised me.

Dead of Night: A pretty great film that's like a series of short horror vignettes with an overarching plot that's quite good! The one with the ventriloquist dummy is the best imo.

Salem's Lot 1979: This was actually made for tv. It starts out quite slow but then gets REAL towards the end. It has one of the best jumpscares I've ever seen in a movie. There's lots of other scares here besides jump ones though, so don't worry.

Pardon my wall of text, I just really love horror...

I'm more into things that are obscure, and sometimes unintentionally creepy. I'm into a lot of surrealist art and some experimental, avant-garde film projects.

While I don't consider them very scary (now that I know all about them and how they were made), some examples would be Shaye Saint John (an unfortunately deceased content creator who made videos under the persona of a woman who had endured a catastrophic train crash and used mannequin parts to rebuild her body), the Ratboy Genius, an exceptionally talented musician who has created his own fictional universe(s) out of his music. I also know a man called Brian Tessler personally, and he creates animations and electronic music. Eagerly awaiting his next album.

I also used to know Sandy Crisp, otherwise known as The Goddess Bunny, who starred in the classic Obey the Walrus creepypasta video. She turned out to be a bit of a religious nut, though, and told me she thought religion should be forced in schools. She worked with Marilyn Manson, though, so she can't have been that bad.

What's that o:?? I haven't heard of it!

It's a website where people make up notes/documents (or are they real????) monsters that are kept in a secret government facility!

I thought that was a terrible movie. The whole concept just made me laugh.

Some of my favourites are much older movies. I really liked signs, Oculus (very strange but holy moly), the haunting in Connecticut (both versions), Amityville Horror, the house on haunted hill, and darkness falls.

As for books. My favorite was Pet Semetary. I've read it so many times and I still can't put it down.

Any particular area of horror? e.g. gore, psychological, ghosts, vampires, non-paranormal, serial killers, etc?

If you're into old silent movies I could recommend some horror ones such as M, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari or Nosferatu. A lot of those older/earlier 20th century stuff is pretty creepy actually.

For books I reccomend anything of Stephen King's. Especialy his older stuff like Pet Semetary, IT, Rosemary's Baby....movies, The Conjuring, The Woman in Black, Insidious (1,2 & 3), the Paranormal Activity movies.
