Now that people are unlocking more things and we're all getting more established into the game, what are some things you guys are doing in regards to map set up. Are you putting the general store and clothing shop near the airport for the convenience of visitors? Or are you putting those as far away as possible to encourage visitors to walk through and see more of your town? Are you spreading your villager houses out to have people more spread out around the island and not have certain places feel lonely? Or maybe putting them in one large neighborhood? Any special place for your museum or home? Have you set up any other areas like a picnic spot or playground or something else? Share your strategies here!

right now my plan is to dedicate the starter portion of my map to a shopping district (able, nooks, museum, town hall) and then have houses spread out around the rest in groups of 2-3! i've changed my mind about what i'm doing so many times already though lol

Planning on having the lower area of town house three villager neighborhoods (2 3 person, 1 2 person), my house/yard, a shopping district (Nook's, Able's), a town square area near the plaza, an orchard, and lots of flower gardens. If I decide to make a side character, their house will be here as well.

Second level of my town will have 2 villager houses, a playground area, and the campsite.

Third level will have the museum, a lake, an outdoor cafe area, and a "zen" area.

I just set up Neighborhood 1 (Kiki, Ribbot, Bianca) and am working on Neighborhood 2 (Tia, Julian).
Working on getting all my inclines set up so everything is accessible, then the real fun will start.

i was thinking about having a more forest-y island, but honestly with all the furniture options i could place outside i want a more urban island.

the main section of the island with my town hall and airport will have my museum and shops, along with 2 villager houses. the shops and villager houses will be close to the beach, kinda like a boardwalk. like there'll be a lil land before the actual beach part that will have all my coconut trees (the beach will have some but they wont be as orderly/spaced out) on both the shop and villager house side. the shop side will have a few stalls and benches as well to sit on, while the villager's side will have back/side yards. these villagers are ones i dont intend to keep on my island so their yards will be updated. the beaches will have lil sandcastles, beach towels and chairs, and maybe some pails and stuff to make it look like its used. the museum will be close to the resident services, and i think i want to put a lil park in this area. i'll probably but vending machines and a lil drinking fountain near it.

the rest of the island will have lil neighborhoods of 2 or 4 villagers. i would like to do 2 so that they can have more detailed/personal spaces around their homes, but while this map may be bigger than previous games i dont know if it'll have enough space for that.

i want to live alone with my house in front of the private beach, perhaps in a valley so the private beach is about on the same level as my house. i dont know if i wanna go all out and have my "property" look like an estate, or a orchard with beehives. i kinda want to have a really cool backyard, though. gonna have a pool and some cute seating areas. maybe a fountain idk tho thats a lil crazy.

i would still like to go with a natural/nature theme, but i feel like the way the story and island develops in this games makes more sense if u go along with trying to make it like a lil city. ur trying to get ppl to show up and live here, and i dont think a bunch of people want to live in the middle of nowhere.

God I’m overwhelmed by all the options at the moment haha
I was just about losing my mind trying the relocate Antonio’s house—I literally went and visited Katt, put my character to sleep in her bed and started browsing on my phone to take a step back. It’s weirdly comforting :3

I'm just going whatever route is the most convienent for me

i’ve put nook’s cranny and the able sisters up on the cliffs as i have this whole idea of having them surrounded by cedar trees and seasonal decorations. i’ve also somewhat began plotting down path ideas so that i can have a general idea of where to put houses and stuff lol

I was thinking of putting the shops and all up on the back cliff so it's kind of new leaf like but I'm not sure I have the patience for that. Plus they'd be so far away from my resident center, which is down near the dock.

I want to make a valley for my shopping district and i`m close to the terraforming part, but I`m still calculating in my head if I can make the room for it. All the flowers I`m gathering take a lot of space as well, its going to cause a headache but I`ll make it look stunning I hope. I know atleast where I want the valley located. But I will have to move almost everything around because in the beginning I just dumped it all on the map...

Lower level under the river is some villagers and residential area, low level over the river is the shops, first high level is museum and bamboo and highest level idk... probably some small decorations, I prefer two big areas over 3 levels.

I have some ideas, but a bit overwhelmed at all the terraforming I'd have to do... afraid it's going to look bad. I like the natural look, so hopefully I won't mess up my island too much.

Right now all my buildings are in the wrong place, too. I need to make a plan and start following it. I think I'll start in one corner and see how it goes.
