I'm struggling with how to decorate the area behind it since it's kinda awkward... any suggestions? I tried putting a waterfall behind it / fencing around it, but it made my villagers have really weird AI behavior (getting stuck / hiding in the back). Currently trying to just surround with cedars, but ultimately feeling a bit uninspired with that area.

I just put some windflowers around it, along with a little area in the back for hanging out, I’m also uninspired rip

The back area of resident services was pretty tricky for me to finish. What I did was I made the resident services like the central hub for everyone to gather around, so each corner of the plaza had a street that led towards resident services.

So regarding the back, the back is just a continued path that leads to other areas in the island. I just decorated with trees and benches to make it have a "city hall" type of vibe. I've seen others create a park that had a fountain in the back which is also a pretty good idea.

But it also depends on whether you're planning on leaving the area flat, or if you want to elevate it. Usually I find that it looks best when it's flat, but it depends on your style preference :)

There's a star pond right behind my RS on the left side so that influenced part of it. Because the whole central area of my island is flat I used brick fence around the back of the plaza and I planted trees/bushes right behind the fence. That gives two whole units of buffer and looks nice to boot.

And then for the star pond I made use of the like 1 unit of space you can walk between the bulletin board and the lamppost and made a small path to it through the fence. Did the same on the other side to let out to the right side of the pond where I've put a solar panel but might switch to a picnic area. Came out pretty nice

I put a wee garden in front of the plaza, might think of changing it at some point though. It needs more colour, and it needs one more iron garden bench!

That’s really cute! I’ve been trying to do the same with a little cafe/table area but I need bushes. It looks so bare right now.

my rs is still close to the beach so i don't have much to work with :c i just put a few hybrids around it and called it good

I put two cliffs in front of it. The road to the right leads to a small neighbourhood and able sisters, and the road to the left leads to a grungier city-like neighbourhood with Nook's cranny and a small beach town/marketplace. I actually don't really like the look of the town hall so I try not to highlight it as much and just use it as a centre point for my roads to span out from.

since mine is right in front of the airport (and not even in a straight line, it's slightly to the right adjflkajfl) I jus put hedges around it and two cherry trees on the front corners. i have my instruments set up in front too but will most likely move them to my shopping area since it feels crowded...

I put brick fences around the plaza that are open on three sides, with paths right next to the fence on both sides and some free space in the front that I'll decorate with bushes/flowers. And since I need a lot of space between Resident Services and Redd's Beach and have very little, I'll put the river right behind the fences in the back, no awkward land.

since mine is very close to the airport, I created a small river in fron with some waterfalls and just have a bridge to the rs, to the left is the residential road I have, where all the villagers live, so there's a fence there because that's someones backyard, to the right is a path and behind is cliffs and a small secret resting place. The entire plaza is surrounded by hedges and flowers too. In the beginning I wasn't really sure what I was going for, but it ended up being very cozy, so I'm happy

I kept mine pretty simple. My town center is really close to the beach and have a river close behind it, so I didn't have a ton of space to work with. Just went with some cute pathing and simple park-style decor in the front!

I just did flower patterns to decorate mine but looking at some of these screenshots made me realize I need to reflect upon my decorating skills xD. I may change it up a little bit.

i put two fountains in front and have a lil outdoor movie theatre(?) thingy on the side that serves as my lil residential hangout spot!

surrounded mine w a mix of flowers & the log stakes, added a stone arch to where the 'entrance' would be and some garden lanterns and a bunch more flowers

When I chose my island map, I knew I wanted my Resident Services to be in the "corner" of my main river, so I've just scattered some orange roses in the small area behind my RS. I've put some pictures in the spoiler though to give you an idea of what I've done to the areas around it.
