How do bells work and when is it added?

I haven't been on for a long while. I would like to know when are bells added to the total, mine are still at the same amount after posting. Please enlighten me on this.

Not all boards will award bells and some award bells in reduced amounts. You can visit your transaction log to view how many bells per post you're making.
