How do you change the title of a post?

I may be starting a cycling thread soon. How do you change the title of posts for updates? When can this be done?

Click edit and then go advanced

I think the edit post button should change the thread title if done on the first post though I'm not 100% sure.

Ninja'd.

Sometimes you then need to click the Go Advanced button near where you'd post any changes and sometimes you don't. It's really inconsistent and weird.
