How do you decorate/theme your "additional" houses?

Obviously for each playable character on ACNH, you get a kit to build a house, and you can upgrade that house as far as you like. I've seen on the forums here that many of you have additional characters on your islands! I've only seen a few examples of what people do with these houses, e.g. a hotel or a café. I only have one house on my island, and I have decorated it as my reps home.

So, I thought I'd ask you all, what do you do with your second (or more) houses? Do you make a theme? A hotel? Just storage?

Feel free to post screenshots of how you decorate your houses too. I'd love to see!

I have 3 player houses in total. First being just, well, a normal house of my rep. The second house originally was used only for additional storage, but overtime I decorated it as a haunted house. The third house was planned to be fully decorated as a cafe/restaurant, however I made two rooms themed after holidays and an arcade. I kinda want to add a fourth character and keep their house as a tent for my campsite area, but it means a complete revamp of that said area.

I have four houses and they are all barely decorated. For my first house, I originally planned to make it based on rooms I made in NL and HHD which were all Dragon Age related but not enough items to make that possible even when improvising and substituting where possible. I had two rooms done but moved one to my alt’s. The upstairs room as well as outside is based on the Muggy Kingdom from One Piece.

My second character’s exterior is based on Wano from One Piece so interior will be Japanese or Asian themed eventually.

My third character’s home is part of the thousand sunny which i built (based off of one piece) and two rooms are based off of rooms on the ship (one is a combo of the dining room kitchen and aquarium room).

My fourth is based off of a blacksmith on an ark in Last Cloudia and her house will eventually be a shop.

one character stores all the posters that I ordered for my catalogue event when they were still catalogable.

my main stores most of my stuff. my shopkeeper stores some of my materials and items/diys i plan/planned on selling (but i give up on selling for tbt since i suck at pricing or getting customers ). I may have her hold some of my unorderables I am not sure about selling, just to keep things organized since I may change my mind.

I'm always accidentally too minimalist, which means it just looks boring!

I made a secondary house to make use of the storage (back then the limit was less than it is now).

I decided my secondary character would live by the ocean, so all her rooms have ocean stuff!
- Left room: fishing tourney stuff
- Main room: Mermaid set
- Right room: Seashell set
- Backroom: Pirate stuff from Gullivaar and some artwork from Redd because it’s the pirate room

I made a few alternative characters to turn their houses into buildings for my island while waiting/hoping for the game to come out with more official ones. Right now I have an inn, a restaurant, a school, and a community center / gym (on top of one regular house). I didn't really decorate them until recently after I made an island journal (here) and wanted to post pictures of the houses. So far I'm pretty much done with decorating three of them, and I'm waiting to collect more school related furniture before decorating the last one.

I have 2 additional houses, one is sort of like a manor house (I put all the antique furniture in it) and the other one is a fisherman's shack by the ocean which has a pirate treasure room in it. I also decorated every room in Harv's Island and wish he had more of them!

I have one additional house. It resembles a hotel. The main room is a lobby, the three other rooms and upstairs are bedrooms and bathrooms, and the downstairs is the guest laundry room. I will attach pictures of the hotel when I have access to my Switch (in a few hours), if anyone is interested.

My partner's character is the second character on my island, and he has a haunted hotel

On my main island I only have the one house. Even after the storage upgrade I have too much stuff to store. If I had the room I'd definitely have a second home, even if just for storage purposes. I'd probably theme the house like the rest of my island so everything matched. I like decorating so I'd love another space to potentially do that!

On my second island I have two houses. I was going to make one house like a fantasy house with a series of ethereal or outdoor spaces and make the other one a more livable space with a kitchen, bathroom, etc. The sad thing is both of them have ended up being empty and undecorated for the time being- I never went back to fix them. Hopefully in the future I'll get to fix them both up!

I don't think I'd ever want to manage more than two houses. It's already a pain and kind of expensive to get your other rep to the point where they can buy all of the house upgrades. I can't imagine doing that more than one additional time!

I always say I'm going to do something special with my houses and never do. Right now I have one house on the gothic island that is decorated with dark colors and looks fairly gothic but not unique. On my other island, I have two houses so I can have extra storage and they are just comfy houses, not themed.

Here are pictures of my hotel. I’m a former housekeeper for a hotel chain, so the housekeeping cart downstairs was my little touch. Sorry if the pictures are small!

i kept my rep's house as just a regular house so that i could introduce a second character with a cafe themed house! he had a party area downstairs, and then the eating area/office/kitchen/bathroom on the main floor and his own little apartment area on the top floor. i never quite got around to finishing + perfecting it but the idea was cute! i also nearly introduced a third character to have a permanent tent near my digsite but couldn't face setting up another character, plus i didn't have space lmao

I only have one extra character. I wanted a diner and didn’t have enough space to make one outdoors. I just made it a little beach shack diner with a kitchen in the back room.

On my old island, I had two other houses, my main island was based off my main novel, which I'm writing. Then my two other houses were representing my other stories, and the interior, and characters.

I love the way you separated the bathroom from the main room, having different flooring was a nice touch!
