How do you guys deal with ACNH stress?

I must be playing a different game. It's my relaxing play in bed game when I wake up in the morning, then it's my relaxing just before bed game in the evening.

It's the perfect chill game. Just chill.
I really should make it a more chill experience and not one to stress over. After all, it's just a game. No one cares what your island looks like except you.

I am having the exact same issue right now. I decided to the change the island up a bit which included terraforming a massive bridge through the middle of my island.... ikr! So as you can imagine there is stuff lying all over the joint I can't walk from one side to the other. I need to move at least 5 villagers houses at the same time as sorting out my hybrid flowers. I am feeling like it was a mistake but now i am too far gone I have to roll with it... so yes generally feeling the stress. It wasn't something I had ever felt before until I started massive terraforming without a concrete plan!

I usually take some time away -- just to recollect and try to focus on what needs to be done for next time. I don't like getting burnt out

I have this small area of my island. a place I rarely touch and always looks pretty. it has a bench, a music player and a beach chair/bed. when I feel down about the current state of my island (currently a lot since I am reorganizing EVERYTHING except for that 1 area) I just go there and sit on that bench for a couple of minutes. or lie down on that chair.
at night, I will go to my house and sit on the couch/at the table or lie in my bed instead. just relax. enjoy the cuteness and chill of the music and the game.
Also, planning things helps. a good plan allows to work in phases and you can just finish a phase and let it rest

Definitely helps to to focus on achieving minor successes. Set yourself a goal to just clear your weeds, do some re-planting, clearing a space, etc. Just little things that help you to feel like you’ve made some progress, then you can move onto the next thing, complete it and move on - and so on.

This way, you’re building a more positive mindset around the things you’re doing, rather than feeling like you’re bored, lack creativity or becoming overwhelmed by the overall task.

Also don’t forget that there really isn’t a rush to do all of these things - not really. You may WANT to finish projects by a certain time but you don’t NEED to. If you want to take a day, that’s fine too.

I hate to admit it because I love this game so much but sometimes I get so overwhelmed with how incomplete my island is in comparison to other islands, and I know that people finish their island at their own pace but I just feel like I’ve been playing this game so much that my island should be so much better so when I feel this way I just work on one little area at a time

as soon as the game feels like work, i step away. read a book, clean my apartment, or even set a timer until i can play again. i get tunnel vision when i play video games (or do anything lol) so it can be hard for me to step away, even if i’m not having fun. taking a break always helps me reset and look at it with fresh eyes and enjoy what i’m doing!

i think noticing when you’re getting emotionally stuck or feeling overwhelmed by perfectionism is a good skill for anyone to practice even if it’s not ac related lol. chances are if this shows up for you in ac, it shows up in other areas of your life.

I just don't work on overly stressful things until I feel like I can handle them.

ACNH isn't a competitive game so you aren't going to be behind anyone if say - you don't terraform for a week, or clean up your flowers, or anything else.

I've been intending to move half my villagers' houses so I can create a personalized yard for each of them, but since I had someone moving out this week I put that project on hold. I'd get to it over the weekend, I guess. Probably. No stress! :)

Ha, feeling the whole "everything is in a disaster state" thing...😅

When I start to get overwhelmed I just try to focus on one thing and leave the rest. I'll get to it eventually and gives me something to do.

I always gift my villagers clothes, which sometimes messes up their houses, and then I try to regift them stuff to fix their house, which is frustrating at times.

I just try to remind myself that it's a video game, and it's a silly thing to worry about. Nothing in the game bears any weight in the real world.

Even if I'm on my third day, I'm experiencing stress in this beautiful game: looking for the recipes of winter in the balloons, I get some duplicate and I don't want to throw them away if one day someone needs them. So I put them on the beach. Same as some of my materials. It looks disgusting, and I don't want to fill my storage in for nothing. But it's a big problem. I cannot imagine how I will feel when terraforming is available: I will go crazy!

If I'm feeling stressed out by the game, honestly, I step away from it for a bit. Even if I don't feel like I can fully step away, I take a break from worrying about whatever it is that's bothering me. If an area of your island is worrying you, just ignore it for a bit- worst thing that'll happen is some weeds will grow, and weeds can actually be useful in this game.

And always keep in mind- this is a totally uncompetitive, single-player game. You're not competing against other islands. Your island is purely for your own enjoyment. Some people get all caught up in having the "best" island but, from my experience, that's just a recipe for disappointment and frustration. So instead of focusing on how your island compares to others, or what other people are doing, focus on what YOU want. And realize that there's no way to "lose" this game- as long as you're having fun, you're playing it right!
