hello, i'm back again with an oddly specific poll once again.

basically, the word 'pianist' got brought up in a conversation the other day with my friend. she keeps insisting that you're meant to pronounce it as 'pea - nessed' with the i and a being silent. my argument is that it's 'pee - ann - ist' because that is how i've heard it my whole life. the third option, 'pea - uh - nessed,' is a contribution from our other friend who decided to weigh in.

so let me know your thoughts–which do you say? and is there any particular reason that you say it? i'd love to know

I feel like pea-nessed is correct but I say pea-ann-ist.

i want to know how your friend pronounces piano-
i voted option A, because that's the closet to how i pronounce it: pee-ah-nist.
(it's also the way the google guy pronounces it for me.)

I pronounce it piano!

Pee-ann-ist is how I pronounce it. I can’t see how it would be any of the other options.

... don't think pianist is one of those words with silent letters.

I pronounce it like paisanos. Hey paisanos, it's the super mario brothers super show!

I voted option a, I like to say pee-ann-nist. I have heard it pronounced as pea-nessed before, but always felt it sounded a little weird.

i say pee-ann-ist, the second one just sounds dirty lmao

I pronounce it the way it's spelled, which would be pee-ann-ist. I feel like I might've heard it pronounced differently at points throughout my life, but it doesn't change how I say it, lol.
