I've been thinking. The original Animal Crossing had 15 total villagers in a village. Wild World only had 8, likely due to hardware limitations. However, City Folk only increased this to 10, shy of the original game, and New Leaf kept this limit intact.

So this got me thinking, how many villagers are we likely to see in New Horizons? I wouldn't mind the original 15 limit since it would allow use to still have dreamies and have a few rotating slots....or even more of our dreamies. However, considering that NH takes place on a deserted island, it makes me think the overall limit could stay at just 10, or possibly less to give that feeling of being close with the people you are "stuck" on the island with.

That said, the Switch is more powerful than any previous console hosting the series, so I would think we could easily have at least 15. Personally I would like to see us return to the original 15, heck even 20 would be great for me, but for some reason I feel like we are going to end up with 12 in NH.

Thoughts?

I think anywhere between 11-15, but since that's not an option I pick 11-14. WW and NL are both handhelds, and while the 3ds is a pretty powerful system, it still has hardware limitations of its own, compared to a console. Tbh, I hope its 14 or 12. Imo, anything over 15 is too many and I don't want an odd number of villagers.

I'd really love it if there are going to be 11-15 villagers on my island. I agree with Kemdi - anything over 15 is too many, so 10-15 is ideal for me. I'm hoping I can use my amiibo cards so I can have all my favorite babies!!

10. Since the map isn’t really bigger than New Leaf with the added possibility that all the shops are now actually within town... I don’t see how we could have more villagers than that.

Voted 10 because I think it?ll be in the range of 8?12

The Villagers are one of the biggest draws of the game to me, so I?m hoping the limit will be increased. Unfortunately though, I agree that it?s looking less likely so far; aside from the Island seeming much smaller than anticipated, something about the game?s presentation is just making me expect a smaller number.

I voted how many I want to see in new horizons rather than what I actually think lol (I want 15+ because I love my animals so much!!!) I agree with Fey- villagers are one of the biggest if not the biggest draw factor of the game for me so I would be so excited if the amount we were allowed to have in our towns would increase! (Fingers crossed :) ) but after seeing the trailer, I didn’t see many villagers but I’m not sure if that’s anything to go off of. There should be at least as many as new leaf for me to buy it. Obviously the game would be great even if it was as low as eight but I will be pushing it to afford a switch lite and animal crossing new horizons so it needs to be 110% worth while for me. I’m still not sure if I’ll be getting the game. Depends on a few factors, I’ll have to decide later. Haven’t seen anything about the island being smaller than anticipated! That’s disappointing! I was looking forward to a higher map which I just presumed we would be getting :( oh well can’t have everything lol

I'm thinking 12, since the map is slightly bigger than the one we had in NL and they've introduced new villagers over the past few years. I've never played the original AC so I'm not sure how things were back when we had 15 villagers, but I feel like that would be a little bit too chaotic. So 12 is a good compromise imo, I'd be kind of disappointed if we ended up with only 8!

Don’t give up hope yet—the Island being quite small was just my impression after seeing the footage and studying the map a bit. How much space we’ll have ultimately depends on where all the public buildings will be located.

Part of me wouldn't be sad over the fact if it's just 10 again, but if they may set higher the limit up
to 12-15 villager then I would be really happy about it.

I think 10 is the sweet spot for New Horizon's unless the map is significantly bigger than New Leaf. Any more than that would make it too cramped. If they do decide on making the villager number higher, I hope they make it optional. I don't want 20 villagers running around on my island.

It wouldn't work, especially with only 8 personality types. Could you imagine having 3 jocks in a row telling you they are feeling their muscles bulge under their clothes. That would be too much.

With that many villagers, it'd be almost impossible to avoid. Heck, I find it annoying enough just having two villagers with the same dialogue. No, until they bring in some more personality types, I'm sticking with 10 as my preferred villager cap.

I chose the option somewhere between 11 and 14 because with what I did see for the map, to me it makes a lot of sense with that number. I could be wrong and we might get 10 again, but I'm hoping for more villagers this time around. It would be nice if they did 15 again like in the original game, but I never experienced more than 10, so I'm not sure how I could keep track of all those villagers running around. o_O

Oh I can imagine that—it’s why I never went back to the gym :}

Since i think that in New Horizons the map is slightly larger than in New Leaf, i hope they increase the villager limit to 12-15. But since we're only able to get 2 at the start, i am concerned it will be less than 10, 8 to be exact

10 to 14 sounds realistic. 15 is just asking for too much and could potentially overcrowd your island, limiting your landscape ideas.

I feel like New Leaf's 10-villager limitation was due to the map size but also because each PWP, rock, pond, etc. had a very specific buffer around them making it harder to place things wherever you want. It seems from the NH trailer that we can place items and trees alongside buildings and riverbanks now, taking that limitation off (or at least, not as strict as before). Plus the map size seems to be a little bit bigger than New Leaf's. I think with that we might be getting around 12-14 villagers. I would actually like it if it gave us the option to control population size as well. Eg. If we want a more barren/deserted look and only 8-10 villagers we can turn off the move in function or something? :p

I'm expecting the map to be bigger than what was in the E3 demo (because it was pretty much just a demo) so I'd like there to be 10-15 villagers this time. I didn't mind the number so much in New Leaf, but if we get a bigger map I'm going to want a few extra villagers in there too.
